My worst fear that I talked about earlier on was that pings were removed from H2PC, and nobody seems to have noticed...

I'm weeping inside. I really am.

How could they just replace a ping with three little, no doubt inaccurate, bars?

</Sigh>

Edit: Forgot the link code, and there is a little ping, but it only shows the lowest ping and average. Not only does it appear to only show up when the server is clicked on (I don't fancy clicking all the servers to check pings), but it's probably showing what the pings of players already ingame are rather than your ping to the server. I mean, how many times would you have to ping it to produce an average ping? No doubt more than once, and that'd be like refreshing the server list 5+ times on a normal game to produce average pings for all the servers.)

What it is.

Ehhh, it's always nice to know the actual ping, but when Live is in the green i don't usually care. Live's net code is usually good so hopefully it wont affect the game too much.

Well, I don't live in America, and that was one of the huge issues that affected my enjoyment of H2 on the Xbox. The fact everybody else always had a rather noticeable advantage, even if my ping was a full green bar (that'd still be 200+ms). So, obviously to see it on a PC game is saddening.

Throw in the whole Xbox 360 controller auto aim, tray and play, H2 Xbox style voice chat... I might as well just play on the Xbox.

The few, the proud, the leet.

wow, guess you haven't played many other games recently. Most games now have switched to bars representing ping, as the vast majority of internet connections are broadband based now. 2142 is one that comes to mind the fastest. You've also got to think about the complete rewrite of the netcode Bungie did at the beginning of H2's development to accomodate WAN and XBL.

^In BF2142 you can make it so it shows ping, maybe H2V will be the same. Either way i know it will have better net code than Halo PC.

Higher speed does not mean lower latency. Infact, on some lines that use interleaving to keep stable at high speeds, it increases latency.

So long as the connection is able to handle the amount of data being sent/received by the game, and is able to do so without any struggle, latency won't change no matter if you're on 512k or 100mbit.

As far as I'm concerned, that statement doesn't hold any truth.

You just click on the "advanced" tab to get rid of the bars, that's what I do.

Pre-game real time ping is what the XBOX version should have had. Not seeing it in Vista, blah.

It's quite easy to insert hyperlinks in posts. All you have to do is say the magic words: "Uju Buju Suck Another Juju" and WHAM! there's your link =D

Anyway, if you don't have the magic "touch," you can always go here (bottom of page; above polls): Bungie.net Help: Text Formatting to learn... like all the other "nonmagic" folk :-P

Cheers.
