Well ive recently (well 2 days ago lol) built a new pc. Here are the specsAMD Athlon 64 X2 4200ASUS M2N4-SLI 2x 1GB DDR2 677mhz RAMNvidia Geforce 7900GS (I highly recommend this card. Its as cheap as 8600GTS and performs alot better..though lacking Direct x 10)450W PSU80GB SATA(Xp MCE05 INSTALLED)160GB IDE (Vista is going to be installed here, so booting options at startup)Now i dont know anything about vista...but ive heard its demanding of memory. Would 4gb really be needed? I have some spare money left over..although i would rather keep taht for h2 vista so i can get it on release. Well anythoughts? I really wish i didnt have to waste 15gb of space from a stupid OS...[Edited on 04.23.2007 10:11 AM PDT]

2GB of ram should be fine. Any reason you didnt go with a core 2 duo? IMO your money would be better spent on getting an 8800 GTS instead of more ram and a 7900gs.
Nah i got 7900GS for £70 inc.p&p and vat. If i would have gone for 8800GTS that would have been nearly £100 moreOh and the reason i didnt go with Core 2 Duo is:*Price*the new Socket AM2 processors are out soon which is going to pair up to core 2 duo (hopefully)Oh and i thought idd also point out that later in the year ill be getting either 2x 8800GTX or 1x 8950 GX2 so i can play crysis[Edited on 04.23.2007 11:15 AM PDT]

If you don't mind can I ask how much the computer cost overall?
Anything more than 2GB is overkill for games.
the new Socket AM2 processors are out soon which is going to pair up to core 2 duo (hopefully)Note that the new AMD processors are designed for AM2+!!! If you stick with an AM2 motherboard and a new AMD processor, you won't be able to use a couple of its new features.BTW it might be a good thing to include a soundcard with your new rig.[Edited on 04.23.2007 11:59 AM PDT]
Tbh..im not really arsed that much about sound. As long as i have inbuilt sound then im ok. Yeah and i know about AM2+ and AM3. Ill wait when they come out too see benchmarks on how they do and compare with different mobos.ps: i love these xblade cases too.
oh and the PC costed about £280 overall, which i dont think is too bad
Damn, if I did my math right thats like 360 dollars in U.S. currency, that is a great computer for that price, where did you buy it?

What the hell, how was Google that for off the real mark?
aka lino4Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.
I have 1 GB, and it's all good. But since we're talking about gaming on Vista, so 2 GB is good. I would wait for that 8600 though.
The 8600GT/GTS is out and was rated poor. Its only just a bit better than 7600GT... my 7900GS is a decent card and i probably wont replace it until the end of the year, when im getting 8800GTX/2X 8800GTS IN SLI/ 8950GX2
Oh and btw ive just installed vista on my IDE hard drive. Takes up[ alot of syst. mem

Christ, 4GB of RAM?! How can you possibly need that much? This computer has 512MB of DDR RAM and it's absolutely fine!
Posted by: the elements600Christ, 4GB of RAM?! How can you possibly need that much? This computer has 512MB of DDR RAM and it's absolutely fine! How can you not need 4GBs of ram? Do anything remotely intensive and you can easily use 512. I can use twice that within seconds of using Photoshop. Hell I would go as far to say 1GB is the bare minimum I would run XP with and 2GB is the minimum I would run Vista with.
If I were you I would leave room for improvement in the ram, get a cheaper core 2, get 1GB of ram, get a better 7900 or 8800, later upgrade your ram.[Edited on 04.24.2007 12:29 PM PDT]
1GB is the future minimum.
I think 2 gigabytes is good for the next 2 years or so. But then again, what do I know? I still think this is the best laptop around...
