"Here’s the key with entering listed games in the browser: If you’re an owner of a LIVE Gold account, you can enter pretty much any dedicated server game as long as someone hasn’t locked it down like a club house (Private Servers for Members only). If you have a LIVE Silver account, there will be some limitations on what servers you can and cannot join. This is bound to be a popular discussion topic, so we will happily go into the differences between the experiences Gold and Silver members are expected to have with our game in a later blog entry. "

Hmm?

That is a bit disheartening... well, actually it makes me kind of pissed. If it comes out that I will have to pay a monthly fee, even if it is a relatively low rate, to play on dedicated servers, then I am not going to be a happy camper. I was under the impression that you would need Gold only to engage in matchmaking, but now for access to select servers? True, Games for Windows Live arguably offers the best online multiplayer gaming setup, but to think you have to pay, without matchmaking mind you, to play on the best servers is ridiculous. I was getting pumped about Halo 2 Vista, but now I'm not sure I'm even going to get it. I'll stick to games that aren't affilliated with Microsoft if this is how it will be; hell, they'll be free to play online... at least for now. I see this as nothing more than a money grab. But maybe I'm wrong... we'll see.

And for those who think I'm complaining about having to pay for a cheap Gold account are missing the point...

Cheers.

I would suggest getting a Gold account anyway. Only $60 a year, and the added bonus of already having a Gold account if you buy an Xbox 360...

Wow... I knew Microsoft was going to do this for cash.. hell the game might as well suck.. nobody cares.. they still got their share of money from vista and h2.. Microsoft is -blam!- and i've always hated those greedy bastards. It doesn't matter to me because I already have a gold account. But still, Microsoft are greedy bastards that don't give a bull about us and just want money. And I really don't care what you all think.

And isn't it 50. Counts as your xbl as well.

I am going to wait and see what sort of limits they put. Don't worry yet guys.

Oh and yes it is 50 dollars a year for your Live account. It can be used on both your xbox 360 and PC.

$50 a year is nothing.

Isn't that like 15 cents a day?

CMT Mod team leader

I wouldn't worry about XBL Gold. All you realy need is the server list. I'm concerned about custom map dls. I don't want people dling whenever we beta test.

Actually this doesn't seem that bad, they said the dedicated server is only locked down if a clan or group of friends want to play undisturbed amongst themselves. Clans will probably have some of these servers, along with public servers that the public could play along side them for larger game population.

"Club House" servers will most likely be very rare.

I'm interested in the custom map download as well, the lack of it is what really limited HaloCE. I want to know when and how the map is downloaded. If you don't have the next map in the cycyle will it trigger the download. [scary thought] I can see someone creating a home dedi behind a DSL connection feeding players a 15MB map while trying to keep their FPS at 30. [/scary thought]

If the custom map downloads works really well I can see the CMT guys becoming celebrities in Halo2Vista. Can I have your autograph?

Fine, then we really don't care what you think.

Live Anywhere offers something most PC gamers are already familiar with and it makes us pay for it. It better be good.

I'm definitely going to wait until this "Silver vs. Gold" stuff gets figured out. I'm not sure I'm going to pay $50 for an old game and "limitations." Crysis is just around the corner. . .

Yeah, but with Crysis, you're looking at spending a considerable amount more just to play the damn thing. The requirements are bound to be exreme with a game that looks the stunningly beautiful.

I've got that covered, but I can see how it would affect other peoples' decisions.

What it is.

Well if H2V is like any other Live game, there should be like a 2 month free Live trial, if not 2 months at least one. So you will be able to see the differences, personally i already have a Gold account so i could kinda care less, but i'm not sure if it will suck or not for those with Silver accounts.

Most games that allow custom map downloads automatically allow the server owner to specify a location from where the file should be downloaded, and support compression techniques.

See if H2PC does though...

If it doesn't support this, game over to an extent. ;)
