Well first of all it pays alot(over $4,000 a month)
There are also different types of designers.I'd prefer to be a Level designer
And Here's all the information you need to know.
I hope I end up working at Bungie.
You'd also need programmers and testers. And a whole team for art, music whatever.

I learned from a rep at cogswell that there are more audio engineers than game engineers (DAE or Digital Arts Engineers)

I heard it's an 8-1 ratio or so

“I believe that the sound of racking the pump of a shotgun is universally recognized as ‘kiss your ass goodbye’.”

I want to be an artist for a game developer(Environmental, Character, Weapons, Conceptual, anything). I'm only a Sophomore, but I've already gotten a good start. When I went to Penny Arcade Expo 2006, I had a chance to talk with Frankie for a bit. We were talking about breaking into the industry and he said, for me who wants to become an artist, I should get a degree in art. This, I already knew. Which is why I'm prepping myself for going to a design school for college. This summer I'm doing a 6-week Pre-College program at Rhode Island School of Design (Top 10 Design Schools in the country) and probably the summer after that. I plan on applying there(Pre-College program greatly increases chances of getting in) and getting a degree in Illustration. I'm in the process of learning Photoshop, but I need to learn a 3D Design Program. From there, I have a few contacts in the industry out here and a good friend who is Lead Animator at Spark Unlimited. Hopefully, this will be a way into the Industry.

I'm lucky, my Dad is an Anesthesiologist and he pulls in 15,000+ a month. We live in Santa Monica, CA(90402). You could say were well-off.

Growing up with all of this, I really don't need any more. I want to look forward to coming to work every morning.

(Please don't mistake that for bragging. I'm merely trying to make a point as to why I don't need a lot.)

PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME GROUP INVITATIONS

The Halo REACH Script (post thoughts in thread)

Writing Lead of Whisper Studios. Check out Heron!

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

I, too, want to be involved with game creation.

Primarily involved with story (I have 4 Story bibles, and two more ideas brewing), and keeping it on track and non-conflicting.

But I will lend my skills and knowledge to cinematics, game balance, weapon design, and concept art....

And I want to work with Bungie. Hear that, Bungie? I'm comin'!

Steam: RageRunner32 | StarCraft II: RageRunner | Lets play Pc sometime :)

<3

I wouldn't mind, If I were to get a job in the computer industry, I would like to create animation sequences and cutscenes for video games. I already am decent at level creation in 3ds Max. I've also made a few maps and skins for Halo Custom Edition, but haven't realesed any. I feel like I'm on the right path towards getting a job in video game production.

Wow, there are two things here.

For the first link, the guy who made the post said he would be starting at Virginia Tech...weird, huh?

And secondly, for the second link to conceptart.org(I'm a avid member, anyone who's interested in concept art needs to go there right now) you linked to a post by Seedling. I've talked to her through the ins-and-outs of concept art and she put me on the right track. I recommend anyone who is serious about getting into the industry as an artist, at least mention yourself to her. She's very nice and very helpful.

To the OP: It's not a matter of "ending up" working at Bungie. It's your drive and ambition, drive, and talent that will (supposedly) land you a job there (or any other great company). I know that's not really what you meant, but just putting that out there :). If Bungie is hiring, and you've got the talent and team-work skills, you're prolly a shoe-in.

I don't know too much about programmers' wages, but I know it's relatively high.

Programming is my addiction :( DirectX (D3D) FTW.

I'd like to, someday. But for now I'm keeping it safe with Buisness Administration and taking all my arts etc courses at night. It was the deal my mother and I worked out because she wants me to be "Financially Sound" and to her the only way to get that is by getting a "normal" job. :P Good luck to you guys though :D
