if you can play games like f.e.a.r, quake 4, oblivion etc. you now some of the high end games you should be able to play halo 2, cause lets be honest its not the best graphics ive seen, and every port from a console always ends up being crap anyways. just look at resident evil 4 for the PC, GR8 ON GAMECUBE BUT -blam!- ON PC.

Yeah, that's generally the case. For all thier similarities, consoles and PC's are quite different and games only port well from PC to console. Rarely the other way around. Oblivion is one exception. It's actually better on PC.

oblivion did originate on the pc, but the xbox 360 and PS3 versions were an after thought.

Really? I thought Oblivion was originaly released on the 360? I guess it's time to mosey on over to Wikipedia for a quick research trip.

OK, so if i can run F.E.A.R at high details with soft shadows turned off (that totally kills my gfx performance) and, well turn off all shadows. and run the game at a resolution of 1280x1024 with no AA and 16xAF at 40+FPS. Be able to play oblivion at medium-high details (once again with shadows off) with no AA and the highest AF settings at 1024x768 at 40+FPS. I should be able to play Halo 2 Vista. But at what graphics detail, resolution with 16xAF will I be able to get at around 40+ FPS???

i cant see why not if you play oblivion at 40 fps you should breeze through halo 2, after all oblivion is cpu and gpu intensive. theres not a game out there that is quite like it. thats why many people use it as a benchmarking tool.

yes, but its at 1024x768, at medium-high details and no shadows (forgot to also add no grass, with grass I get around 25-40FPS) and in some areas I will only get around 25FPS. I mean I can play halo pc all max details at 1280x1024 at 50+ FPS sometimes it goes over 100+FPS and a sometimes in fight scenes where there are a lot of explosions etc at close range, my framerate can drop below 30FPS.

You saying that I should be able to play H2V all high details with 16xAF at 1280x1024 at around 40+FPS???

What level of detail and resolution can I expect to get from:

CPU: ..................AMD AM2 5000+ @ 2.89GHz (stock Heat/Sink and fan)
M/B: ....................Asus M2N32-SLI-Deluxe Wireless Edition
RAM: ..................2x1GB DDR2 667
GPU: ..................Asus Geforce EN7600GT 540/700 with latest drivers
PSU: ..................Usicase 500W silent power
HDD: .................250GB
DVD: ................. Sony DVD/CD Writer/Reader
Sound: ..............SoundMax HD Audio............ with latest drivers
Screen:..............Samsung SyncMaster 753s CRT 1280x1024 @ 60Hz
Speakers:.........Sony Headphones

I usually have AF set to 8x to 16x, and don't usually have AA turned on as jagged lines don't really bother me. I'm hoping to get a resolution of at-least 1024x768 to 1280x1024 with at-least medium detail settings with at-least a frame-rate of 30 or more (45 or above recommended). Can you tell me if I will be able to achieve this. Or if possible will I be able to achieve higher results. If so can you tell me what I will be able to play the game at???

It's the vidcard that's holding you back. When the new r600 released it's going to drive down the price of all the current top cards.

crikey you beat me on everything apart from the GPU, but im 99.9% sure halo 2 will run on my rig 1280x1024 max settings. upgrade your GPU and you will be set.

Do i look like I'm made of money to you, lol, I've got like $20 in my wallet and about $50 in the bank. When Barcelona comes out, and improved R600 GPU's I will be upgrading big time. But till than i am afraid I'm going to have to stick with the 7600GT. (Perhaps, hopefully in another 2 months I will have about $400-500) spending money. I might be able to upgrade my GPU than, but I won't coun't on it

ow, sry if it sounded like i was getting serious, i did type "lol" in that post, was hoping that would shine it up a little. But yea, I'm not exactly rich, it took me over a year to save up for that computer. Took me 2 months to save up for the motherboard, 3 months for the CPU and HDD, 3 months for the GPU and a further 3 months for the RAM, so as you can see, its gonna take me a further few month in order to save up for my next upgrade. I'm quite patient i think.

GOD DAMNIT I WANT A JOB, THIS PATIENCE THING IS PI**ING ME OFF.

Nah just kidding, but having a job would really help. But all the jobs I've applied for are all full, so I'm waiting for an empty slot and aphone call :-)

I know I can't run it but I just wanted to post my crappy specs :)

You don't know whether you can play it or not, back a few months ago, my computers specs where under the minimal on a lot of games like oblivion yet i still managed to play them, probably not well, but i managed to break the 30FPS barrier on the lowest settings.

I mean, with my current rig, i only have 512MB of RAM and yet i still play Oblivion at medium details scoring anywhere from 30FPS to 80 FPS depending on the environment.
I still dont think I can play H2 because my system lags when I try to play Half-Life 2 Episode 1 but I can play Halo 1 PC on max settings which I guess is nothing too great :)

The fact you can even play HL2 Epi 1 means you can play H2V, HL2 Epi 1 is a shader model 3 game, meaning if your card does not have shader model 3 you won't be able to play it (i think), im only saying this because with my old geforce 6200, everytime i went to play lost coast, i got the BSOD before the menu come up.

But i would say you can play h2v with at-least low-medium detail easy.

yea, H2V is only a little over a week away (most like mid next month for us Aussies), unless they delay it again for another stupid reason that won't bother most people but themselves. Just buy the game and see if it plays. surely you won't mind playing the game at low settings. For what I've seen on the internet, low settings with h2v is equivalent to the graphics detail on the xbox, if so your not really losing.

Windows Vista Ultamate
Intigrated VIA audio

That gfx must be very, very over-clockable or something, but imo, you still fall behind the minimal system requirements. That doesn't mean that you can't play h2v, just means that in some areas of the game it may freeze, crash, or plain and simply play badly, but all-in-all you "might" be able to play. I would consider an upgrade of your gfx, maybe a 7600GT or 7600GS they are now selling for less than $200. I don't mean you should upgrade just to play h2v, but upgrade for other games as well, unless your not a gamer, are you?
