What's up guys, Will this -blam!- run?

VIsta Premium
AMD 64 X2 3800+ (2Ghz)
1Gig PC6400 DDR2 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 256MB
160 GB HD
DVD Drive

Why did you get a GeForce 8500GT. Please tell me it came with the computer, or you got it very cheap. And don't say you got it for DX10, because there's no-way in the world that card can run DX10. Its proven fact that even the 8800GTX struggles with DX10 and that card is about 10 times more powerful.

Anyways, your card is about half as powerful as my 7600GT, so I'm guessing you can run the game anywhere from low-medium graphic details (still better than the xbox) with medium to high resolution.

What proof do you have that the 8800 GTX struggles with dx10, which is strange as dx10 is an API, not a game.

What proof do i have, hows this. DX10 Benchmarks

LINK

The graphics aren't even set to maximum and it can only manage 44FPS in the cave, what chance does the 8500GT have.

And these pics

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g156/syne_24/CaptureMax3.jp g
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g156/syne_24/CaptureMax2.jp g

These pictures show crappy frame rates for the 8800GTS all under 20FPS, thats not even playable.

And there are a few more benchmarks that i can't seem to find anymore. But the fact is even todays high end cards have trouble running DX10. Don't expect to see any good DX10 performance until GeForce 8900's and Radeon R650's

*sigh*, your kidding right? you have a 8800GTS and you want to know if it will run? Yes it will run, all maxed out. Max graphic details, max resolution, and max AA and AF. Enjoy :-)

It would be roughly the same performance, maybe a tad better with the 7600GS, but roughly the same.

Hey m8, I'm not putting down your gfx card or anything. I mean, nvidia made the card before any DX10 demo benchmarks etc came out, so i guess they didn't know how it would perform in DX10. I was quite amazed to see the 8800 series get a beating trying to run the DX10 demo. I thought DX was supposed to increase performance, i mean, i remember going from DX8 to DX9.0c and there was a big gain in performance.

As for your 8500GT vs your friends 7600GS. Well, the 8600GT can barely beat a 7600GT not to mention its more expensive so thats a no go. I tried finding legit benchmarks for 8500GT but found none. But according to the 8500GT specs ( HERE ) vs the 8600GT, the 8500GT is only half as powerful, and the 7600GS can almost match (and sometimes beat) a 7600GT. So I'm guessing in overall performance the 7600GS will be more powerful

EDIT: just compared the 8500GT specs to the 7600GS ( HERE ), and it seems that the 8500GT is slightly more powerful. Hmm, i think they would be an almost equal match, with maybe the 7600GS only just managing to come out on top. IDK, your best bet is to fins a benchmark and compare

I figured you would say Lost Planet as that is only one of two games out. You cannot cite one game with conflicting benchmarks(44+ compared to less than 20) and call dx10 impossible to run. Go look at Call of Juarez which runs fine and is DX10. Besides that I can cite STALKER which is dx9 and runs like really slow on everything but the 8800 series.

EDIT: I just looked at some dx9 shots on a 7900GS and performance is just as bad as the dx10 performance, it's the game.

Well whether its the game or not, the 8800 is over twice as powerful as the 7900GS so thats no real excuse. All I'm saying is that the 8500GT 8600GT/GTS isn't going to cope well under DX10 titles, I probably wouldn't use Crysis as an example, because its a DX9 game which can run on DX10 as well. Not to mention, crysis will be optimized to run on slower machines, just like far cry was. but games like bioshock etc, i don't think the 8500-8600GT/GTS ain't gonna cope. But I could be wrong, so just gonna have to wait and see

Remember this. nVidia's GeForce 8 Series drivers are a joke right now.

Oh, -blam!-, sry, forgot to add that too, yea, thats the main reason why it performs so bad in DX10 applications, the same reason goes for the 2900XT, the drivers for that are bad too. But nvidia had 6 months to correct the problem, so once again, its no excuse.

sure m8, its won't be as good as a 7600GS or 8500GT, and since its a 512MB it will run slower than the 256MB version of 7300GT, only because the card is to slow to utilize all 512MB of memory. But it will run nevertheless

7650GS wtf, i've never heard of that before, 1 sec, googling..................................................... ............................................................. ............................................................. ............................................................. ............................................................. ..........................

OK, i barely found anything on that card. I can't even find the specs on it, but being a 7650GS I'm sure its better than a 7600GS. So my guess is yes, you can run it smooth, probably not at max resolution or detail. but you should get good smooth frame rates at say 1024-768 at medium detail, who knows, that graphics card might be more powerful than my 7600GT, you might be able to push the resolution and graphics up and still get reasonable smooth framerates., it would be a good idea to upgrade your ram to 2GB, but it shouldn't matter much.

Hey im back...after another ban...

Only 6 or so days until H2V is released!!!

Ok, one thing to look out for. My dad just had this problem.

When getting a new graphics card, (or adding anything to a computer), but mainly with graphics cards, check the amount of power that the graphics card will require. Compare it to your power supply's output. If its more then the output you will run into problems...such as killing the card. *turns to father*

He will be getting a new card free of charge though because he told them that it just didn't work...even though it worked in my computer :p

He did put some research into it. One thing to check would be the...what the most powerful card is that your computer can take. My father also ran into a problem that someone had after trying to use a card higher than the nVidia 8xxx series or something like that...

The Point is to put research into what you are buying and don't just settle for the first card you lay your eyes on!

Hey, if someone could give me an idea of the performance I'll get with this setup, it'd be appreciated:

-Intel Centrino Duo T2600 @ 2.16ghz
-1024MB RAM (DDR2)
-ATi Mobility Radeon X1400

All I want is to be able to run the game smoothly, even if it must be on low settings.
