See, with nVidia, there is a logical numerical order in their product range. But logic is for dummies! ATi takes that statement to the extreme. However, in general, the rule of the thumb is: the more "x"s in a product name, the better the card. So if they release a card called the "xTreme x2300 XTX Super video adapx0r xXxX X...X", you know off the bat that this is one card that will kick all ass.
How about you research and think before you post.
ATI (formally) added an X in front of it's name after the 9700 series, because saying that you've got a "10700Pro" would be too long. So the added the X infront of it's name, because in roman numerals, X means ten. That way, they weren't down-grading going from a 9700 Pro, to an X850. The X is just a place-holder for a 10. So it really is 10850, which is a thousand more than the 9700 series.
