-The leetness of having something new
Look. There is no reason to get Vista, unless you purchased your computer with an upgrade. If you wanna play Halo 2, buy an XBOX360 and halo 2, instead of buying a $300 OS, or whatever the cost is. Bottom line is that you get everything that this guy above is saying. What Mr.Nick isn't telling you is all the c*** that you get with every bonus. Let me go down the list as a Vista owner since a few months ago, because Dell was slow in sending my free upgrade.
1. Security (UAC, etc)
HAHAHA. That's a joke right? Every security will be cracked. hell, Vista was cracked by a hacker before it even got to the general public. Don't gimme this security garbage. It's as safe as XPSP2 or 3 i can't remember the number. Also, they have this stupid "user account control" which basicly in street terms "BLOWS." I mean damn!!! It warns you everytime you start up an application that isn't microsoft owned. It pops up and says "accept or dont accept," it would be a great program if you could allow certain programs permanently, but you can't, so it blows. Next topic.
2. Windows Aero (Glass Effects, Smoother Window Transitions, Flip 3D, etc)
Hands down, its good. Looks really nice, the only side effect. You know that sweet black look for WMP11 on XP, well, that's gone. WMP11 looks HORRIBLE. When I loaded it for the first time, I almost puked. Well no I didn't but you get my point. I do like however that they have a beautiful animation for every little detail, and the Previews for minimized programs is awesome, he didnt mention that. He also didnt mention that they changed the mouse, but I feel its for better. They made the back stub smaller, and the arrow larger. It's a bit weird and first, but you'll grow to like to alot. Bottomline, Graphics are nice. Next topic.
3. Enhanced Memory Recovery (Increased Processor Efficiency, Searching and Speed, Power Efficiency)
Another nice positive, the computer takes roughly fifteen seconds to load up. Oh, the shut down time is actually 10 secs for me, amazing. Nice job Microsoft. They fixed the memory recovery systems, so the find feature is almost instantaneous. Oh and he mentioned decreased ram, it takes up 50% of my 2 gigs, jus the desktop, but I think that should be under the graphics section. Next topic.
4. Improved network stacking, Mobility, Media Center, Readyboost, updates, The Start Menu is Un-Noobitized
Don't care about network, what do you mean by mobility and readyboost? Updates is a given, and an old feature, start menu is good (weird but nice like the integrateed search bar) . Media Center is old, you obviously have never had XP Media Edition.
5. H2V, GFW Live, Emulation feature for older programs
Good, they fixed the game system. They created a universal install so every game will install the same way. They have nice assessments of your comp, to tell you if your computer can support a game before hand, by issuing you a quality number for your computer. H2V, yeah, its awesome, which is why I'm here. GFW Live, kinda comes with the H2V awesomeness, but is a little more longer term. Emulation, should be a given.
6. The leetness of having something new
For $300 plus, sure you can have a 1337 thing. It's not that thrilling after the first few weeks. it feels too much like xp with a theme on top of it.
My conclusion is, Vista is a skin that looks nice and fixes some stuff. If you really wanna spend $300 then by all means go ahead, you're not wasting your money, but you're not pputting it to good use either. If you don't get the OS for free with an upgrade, there is no reason to go out of your way to buy it. The 1337ness fades quickly, and feels like xp. I'm surprised he didn't mention alot of the nice features like the sidebar or the amazingly refined windows speech recognition program. Anyway, yeah, I don't feel like typing anymore, so this is it. I might talk some more later on why Vista is good, but don't buy it if you're looking for a whole new revolution. Take your time, be patient, wait, and get it when you get your next computer. TY ALL
