So I think Jun's a master chef, because he takes off his helmet and your like whoa, I think he's a chef.

So to shorten this up, Jun is master chef.

First of all, I would like to say that if you don't enjoy this forum, leave. You signed up. You participate here, and we're not forcing you to. The people here enjoy the community. I will say that this forum does have many immature people on it, but so does everywhere else on the internet. Also, post counts are dumb and serve no purpose except to say that one person spends more time here than another. I would like join dates back since I now have to look at peoples' profiles to find that information. Also, age display is useless. Bungie is not an ageist website. One of the moderators is 13 and he doesn't act immature at all. In terms of Bungie being elitist, I don't know where you got that idea. Maybe there should be a little more democracy, but I'm not gonna complain. I come here to talk about Halo and other topics that I can find in the flood; not so that I can participate in the democracy of a forum, because, quite frankly, I trust the moderators and Achronos. There is always a moderator on, so, if I have a problem with a thread or a person, I find who the moderator is, and I report what I want. It's that simple. It's that easy.

30 moderators is definitely not a problem area. I like it like that. You get to know them, unlike on the xbox.com forums, where there are tons of moderators and no one knows who they are. If you looked at the Halo 3 forum there, you'd be surprised at all of the junk that goes unlocked. The last time I saw a useless thread get locked there was...
I can't even remember when! The point is, Bungie is a tight-nit community. The moderators participate and don't just patrol, and if you have a problem, you know who to ask. As the other people in this thread have pointed out, IP bans will get this forum nowhere. it doesn't help one bit. By the way, when groups come back join one if you don't already participate as they may help you out.

P.S. That last sentence is wrong. Throwing out bans that are IP bans doesn't do anything.

Almost every other forum deals with ranks except this one. Im amazed at how many privileges this community denies itself by being so stupid and ignorant. Forums nearly half the size of bungie.net, even at par with b.net have ranks, post counts, join dates, age display, etc. Its not these things that create elitism, but the community itself. With all due respect Bungie, your community sucks, hard. Its filled with half wit teens and prepubescent morons, or at least those with a mental maturity on par. I honestly think that it was the fact you sold to a larger crowd that Halo 2 and these forums gained such a large supply of imbeciles and flamers, who would rather start a fight than respect other members. We could have so much more here if people just learned to behave and show respect.

30 moderators is obviously one problem area. You dont have enough for this size of forum. You need at least 5 moderators per section depending on activity as well as one sub-admin per section so when a real problem arises you can do the best of things... IP ban. If bungie.net IP banned members, there would probably be at least a 30% decrease in idiots and spammers on this forum, as well as preventing multiple accounts. I have wondered for a while why bungie doesn't take advantage of IP banning, but still haven't gotten a decent answer. Not to mention a Ban from bungie isn't all that threatening anymore, because you ban for almost anything, big or small. It has become the norm and doesnt instil a harsh punishement like it should.

You make a mistake, 1 week temp ban. Do that 3 times, perma ban. Thats the only defense a moderator has against an unruly member. If we had things like moderator warning bars as well as member warning notification, it would make it much easier for even the idiots to know where the lines are drawn, and make them aware of a ban becoming possible. Just throwing out ban's that aren't IP bans doesn't do anything.

Why do people insist on solutions (e.g. IP bans) in which they have no knowledge of? Anyone who knows basic networking would be able to tell you why in 99.9% of cases, IP bans are useless. And even in the 0.1% of cases where they may work, they are still easy to evade if you have some basic knowledge.

I mean, if you're going to so confidently cite solutions, at least make sure they would actually work, and that you do in fact know what you are talking about?
IP bans may be useless for the most part, but they are more effective than normal bans in the long run. They seem to work a majority of the time for at least a decent period (a month maybe) in the many other communities I attend and have attended.

In regards to my other comments, im not complaining about the community apart from myself, becuase i am part of that community and have myself made stupid mistakes. Everyone does, its how it works when your human. But i still feel that these things were removed because of the fodder they created for members, not simply because you couldnt spare a few extra pixels per post on the forums. But, this is my opinion and how I have seen things draw out here, this doesnt make me right, just this is how it seems to be. And if Elitism isnt the problem, then why is it everybody's security blanket when it comes to new ideas?

PS: @ Wiffle - I never said I hated this forum or its community, I was just pointing out my observations from being a member here as well as a frequent XBL player. Do not put words in my mouth. I also never said bungie was elitist, that is a misread on your part. I also fail to see the quantity of "idiots" on other mass population forums as I do here, no offense. Displaying something doesnt mean it has to be important, its just personal information and it doesnt have any weigh. Age means you can find other members here of the same age who are living in the same era as you, it makes it easier for people to grab those similar to them. I also am a very consistent visitor and poster to the Halo 3 forum and i do see what happens there, as well as in the Flood and many other areas.

And before you EVER make such blatant assumptions as to my activity in the community again, I will not let it slide so easily. I have been active in many groups here for quite some time, have become moderator in a couple, and have even started my own. I am a participant of this community just as much as you are, and belittling me like that is not what a respectable member does. And IP bans do something, they cannot be completely useless becuase I have seen them work countless times, the people you IP ban stop coming, it works. I honestly know that it can fail when people have rotating IP's, but half the kids out there with access to this forum dont know what a rotating IP is, let alone how to bypass an IP ban. Sure, they can look it up, but at least an IP ban will buy you more time than a basic ban that does nothing but block a member name and login. An IP ban may not be exponentially more effective, but it is somewhat more effective than just a basic ban that allows anybody with a computer, an internet connection, and the intelligence of a fly to create multiple accounts.

Actually...Achilles turned 14 last week...but he still does act immature!

The mods do a fine (enough) job. I don't think we need more mods, we need fewer members who are ass-clowns. Although, with the release of the Beta and then Halo 3, if Achronos wants to add a couple more mods, that's fine by me (not like he needs my permission).
