Subject: How can we better this community?

Inside the Mind of Halotitan Help me get expand my mind.

Three years ago I began coming to these forums, participating in debates about whatever topics had been posted at the time. Not everything was so bad then as far as the flaming and hatred goes. But now a days you see nothing but spammers, flamers(I've regrettably was one at a point in time), and haters. Hardly ever can you post a thread without getting one useless comment from someone, like in this thread. I was just asking about the lack of our games showing up on bungie.net, and some guy comes in there talking about "man juice". What has happened to this place, its become less and less interesting to come here.

Now days we have to read about the same topic over and over and over, (MAPS FAILED, RANK RESET? OMG WE HAVE TO PAY?) What happened to originallity and what happed to good conversation and debate between people without it turning into flame fest where all we can see is *BLAM* posted everywhere. i use to get like that as well, i'm guilty of it, but after my first and only time being blacklisted I realized how childish it was and learned how to handle conversation better, I wish most people could make turn arounds as well.

So does anyone have any ideas on how we (by we I mean die hard halo and bungie fans) can make this community better?

There are some big points in this thread link Halo G33k and I are talking about your post, and saints playing devils advocate. But yeah... Like i said there... If it cost $5 to get an account on bungie, just a one time fee, but, PER account... Man that would shape things up here... Parents would think twice about giving their kids repeated amounts of $5 after a while, and hopefully start realizing that they shouldn't let em on the internet anyways.

Making this community better is like making the world better.

Only wise, mature, intelligent and respectful people want it.Which reflects about 3-5% of bungie. And about 2% of the world.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

I know. It's because they are adding too many strict rules like the one where we can't post montages anymore and the fact that we can't say terms like "BK, Bad Kid, and Noob" which is basically competitive Halo2 lingo so many users moved to other forums and the community is basically dead.

Too many strict rules? If people wouldn't flame another user because of a vid they made or use insults like "bk" then we wouldn't have those. If it is competitive Halo2 lingo then leave it in the games. The forums are not a competition. If people like that wish to move on then so be it.

No thats a great Idea, one time fee of five dollars to use the forums. So many people would think twice about what they posted in fear of being banned. I'd certainly pay that price to be on a forum with people who want to have mature discussions.

I couldn't agree more, those game words are most often brought up in flame wars and I'm glad they've taken those away. There are website out there that will allow people to post their montages as well.

Honestly, its a bad idea because you're sixteen,, and don't have a debit/credit card. If you do, and have a job, you should see absolutely no problem with my idea.

But i expect no one to like my idea, I have yet found anyone who has. Its simply something I believe would strongly discourage idiots. cause getting blacklisted on an account that actually costs you will make people THINK TWICE about the consequences.

Looks like Titan agrees! Yay... first follower... It really is a sound idea when you think of it.

But Archilles look how dead New Mombasa is now. It's just a ghost town where only radioactive abominations post repetitive threads on how they can't get the maps and how BXR is cheating and unholy.

You can leave the bad kid rule but please let us bring vids back. It's what a lot of members want to watch. Let the other members say we have no life and that we're bad, many of us really don't care. We just wanna post montages and machinima again. I mean Halo2 is REALLY old now and we just wanna have a purpose for playing.

Bungie doesn't disallow video's. Just go to Youtube or something. Thats where al the montages are anyways. And alll you ever want by posting a montage is attention. Theres hardly any other reason to.

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

The community is fine. Why can't people come here and take it for what it is, and not what it isnt.

I blame the whole "pimp my low IQ" generation, where something can't be good on its own merits, there always has to be a "this is cool, but what if we added this" to everything.

So stop -blam!-ing because you cant follow a few simple rules, or cant post your awesome 1337 BOOM headshot montage. If you dont like it, leave.

You can watch vids on YouTube. When we allowed them on the forums all we got were flame wars and pissing contests. You say you want a purpose for playing Halo 2? How about trying to play it just to have fun?

Hope that wasn't directed towards me. Either way you just showed me and the rest of the thread what i'm talking about in the sentenced I highlighted above. Why do you have to be like that, to anyone?

Want a challenge? Try coming up with a NEW and INTERESTING] topic about Halo 2 that hasnt been posted about 20 times already.

I don't see how posting game footage thats been editted to only include your most awesome kills is the answer. Face it, I'll be the first to admit I suck and even I could edit game footage to make myself look like and MLG god. Even if you came up with an original montage, most of us are sick of listening to "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" anyway.

Lol, let the bodies hit the floor, you have a good point there. If bungie did charge people the five dollars maybe some of those rules could go away because people wouldn't want to get banned for life and have to pay another five dollars.

I know I can watch them on YouTube but can I discuss them with other members? No. New Mombasa is slowly dying and I just think the return of Halo videos would bring it back to life.

There lies the problem. What wound up happening is that people would flame or insult the vid creator and instead of reporting that person they would flame back. Then it would spiral into an unending hate fest until we came in and cleaned it up. So to keep that from happening the rule was made to stop people from posting their montages in the forum.

Would you have held on to this opinion if your last 7 day wouldve been a permaban?

It was directed at anyone who feels that the community needs saving. You ask about the recent lack of originality, yet you re-post a topic that is in the top five list of "Threads you can expect to see on a weekly basis".

If I dont like a book I'm reading, I dont read it. If Im watching TV and I dont like the show, I change the channel. If there is nothing here that interests you any longer, why are you still here? Bungie.net isnt the only community site out there. Perhaps a search for a more specific part of the community that is more in line with your interests may be in order.

Just because you don't like watching, making, and discussing montages and MLG oesn't give you the right to flame them. Also I put rap music in my montages ;)

I'm not flaming them. I offered my opinion. In case you missed the fine print in my and others posts, montages added nothing to this site except flame wars and pissing contests.

I support the mods decisions to not allow montages.

Maybe you should ban the people who start flaming, after all they are probably flaming in other areas too. Or maybe other areas of the site could be moderated according to the rules, instead of popularity or the moderators favorite areas. Take the flood for example, things in this forum are allowed all the time, videos of how people shower, blogging, etc. are all locked at most, but usually ignored.
