Paying for B.Net? Go -blam!- yourself.

See what I mean, was that really necessary sir?

Abso-blam!-lutely. Hasn't been a stupider idea uttered since the council finally died its death.

Darkm0d, I have a better idea. Instead of charging people to join the site, Bungie could use credit cards for age verification. They wouldn't be charged anything, they would just need to put in their information. If the account were to be banned, the credit card would be banned, so all other accounts associated with that credit card would also be banned, and no new accounts could be created using that credit card.

No way. There are positive contributions from wayyyy too many under-18 members here to shut them out. That'd be completely unfair. And no, some of them could not just "use their parent's card."

Weeding people out based on broad stereotyping is not the solution. The solution is to implement a system to encourage good posts and to establish who is and is not a trusted user.

Darkm0d, I think that your idea has a good reasoning and purpose behind it, but I think that this site has striven to remain open to anybody with internet access around the world. Although I would pay for a membership here, I would never EVER advocate that this site should become a pay site. As such, I disagree with your idea.

I don't think the site itself should be charged, but the forums. Thats where the problem lies.

Yeah, how old are you?
Eighteen.

Thought so. This kid thinks he's a big timer because he just got his Credit Card.

LOL...

I don't have a credit card. I have a Visa Debit card. And i got it *pulls it out to read date* well, all it says is 2005. I was sixteen when I got it. Its really really not hard to walk into a bank with your dad and sign up for one.

I already told you that its simply to get a visa gift card, which would work for the fee required for a supposed priced bungie.net membership.

Also... why would you call a guy who has 2 years on you a kid? I mean... that just seems a bit off...

And i understand you completely. I gave credit to all and any sup-18 members who can show more maturity then some 18+'s. They would be missed dearly. But, like i said.. They all probably got the new maps, which required a credit/debit card. And like i said, thats easy to do.

The average age of a gamer is 32 ish.

I belive there would be plenty of people sill on the site.

And, it will allways be quality over quantity

Anyways, no point in discussion something like this with you. You don't see whats good for the community, only what wouldn't be good for you. ITs like talking to a mirror about global warming... just pointless ^.^

Man i need to sleep...

I know I can watch them on YouTube but can I discuss them with other members? No. New Mombasa is slowly dying and I just think the return of Halo videos would bring it back to life.

There lies the problem. What wound up happening is that people would flame or insult the vid creator and instead of reporting that person they would flame back. Then it would spiral into an unending hate fest until we came in and cleaned it up. So to keep that from happening the rule was made to stop people from posting their montages in the forum.

Yeah I know. This community's immature members is what's costing some of the cooler features to be.............supressed (can't think of another word at the moment LOL)

I mean, montages are supposed to be something that you want to SHARE with people. You spend the time getting good footage (because it does take a while, it's not like killtaculars come naturally, even for good players LOL) and then you spend the time editing it, putting in good music, cool effects, etc.

Then you bring it here.......to Bungie.net. And you get flamed. What is that? Why do people need to be so immature? However, not everyone flames at these videos, but all it takes is one kid to say "You suck, I could own you 1v1" in response to a vid, then the entire topic is subject to attack.

I thought removing montages was a tad harsh, but I can understand Recon's call on the subject. Just too much immaturity. The lack of it is making this place into .............a really really strict forum. These days it's the same overused topics over and over but we keep discussing it because we're waiting on Halo 3 (woot) but in the meantime, it makes for a bland and dying community.

We'll get a huge revival in a couple weeks though. But until then I guess we'll all just have to deal with the immature members who cause us to lose more and more outta these forums.

I work for the Department of Defense.

The "gaming age" you speak of, was created by teenagers and young adults like us, years back. And now, THEIR THE AVERAGE.

Look at Bungie Studio's. No one there is a "teenager"

I have met plenty of older players on halo.

Years old?

Nah. That's WAYyyy too old. I don't know the actual stat, but it would have to be in the late teens/early twenties at the oldest. There are way more younger kids playing than older ones, that's for sure.

As for the paying part..........I don't really think that would work out.

*edit*

And by gamer I mean someone just playing the game, not someone making a hobby out of it.

Now days we have to read about the same topic over and over and over, (MAPS FAILED, RANK RESET? OMG WE HAVE TO PAY?)

I haven't been here very long at all compared to you but (With respect) I have to say that threads like this are the ones that I see just as much as all the other stuff you mentioned. I'm not contending or supporting anything you're saying; I'm just pointing out the fact that threads of this nature are quite numerous as well...

Yeah I saw it.

I don't believe it though. I know from experience that older people do not play this game. Otherwise we'd have 30 year olds at tournaments, and in houses on Saturday nights playing games.

I've only met 4 people above the age of thirty who still game. I call shenanigans on that statistic.

Anyway, I think that immaturity is immaturity. But it's causing this forum to miss out on some cool stuff.

If it cost $5 to get an account on bungie, just a one time fee, but, PER account... Man that would shape things up here... Parents would think twice about giving their kids repeated amounts of $5 after a while, and hopefully start realizing that they shouldn't let em on the internet anyways.

Would you have held on to this opinion if your last 7 day wouldve been a permaban?

If you had to PAY for membership, banning would probably occur less, FAR less.

So people would get away with more? Not a good thing

And my reasoning for being blacklisted would of easily been appealed (IMO) No need to go into this. Its not something i feel the need to discuss publically.
So threatening another user isnt a good reason for a ban? Wow... So your plan would allow users to get away with more, in effect, and exclude a large portion of this site.

Also, the average game player is 33 according to that site, but that includes computer games, which are more commonly geared to older people with mystery/detective games, majhong type games, etc. as in things that would never be played on XBL, and would generally raise the average age of a gamer. I am sure the average halo player's age is FAR lower.

This 34 year old gamer begs to differ. You dont see 30 year olds at tournaments because we had to decide on a career before the advent of 'pro' gaming. That means we have to work to support ourselves which means we dont have 10 hours a day to practice.

My personnel view is that most 30 year olds have come to the realization that its just a -blam!- game.

I only play this game every other weekend and Ive been to tournaments, and done quite well, so it isnt that people have too much spare time. I thing gamers overall are averaging 33, but I think HALO 2 players on XBL are far younger on average.
