If you had a product to advertise, who would you want to pitch it, a 40-old balding fat man or Anna Kournikova in a wet T-shirt. Bungie is Anna Korunikova in a wet T-shirt. 'nuff said

When the Halo 3 commercial came out late last year I went back to Youtube to check it out and someone had left a comment saying "Bungie, you are god." I ROFLed. Then I agreed. Anyway, the Halo franchise is so succesful that it has come to be the trendsetter/the game that all other FPS's will be judged according to. I think it means as much to us as it does to Bungie - I mean we have something perfect going on here, and it should stay that way. All those other games, "Crapdown" and such should find other sites where people are actually interested. We shall follow no other! Halo till the end!

I really don't like the way that Microsoft is using Bungie to market other games. First the Halo 3 Beta invitation through Crackdown, and now this Shadowgun Run whatever crap? I mean come on, they are actually using Bungie's website to get awareness of their games out. In all fairness, that Shadow whooha game does look decent, at least better then Crapdown. Still, Bungie makes the best games for Xbox, why can't Microsoft just leave them to their business, instead of trying to rub off a little marketing through a company thats worked so hard to get the respect from so many people?

Although I'm a Halo fanatic and have been one since the release of Halo CE, I don't really care that they're pitching other games here on their website. Crackdown is a pretty good game, and being a microsoft owned product(correct me if i'm wrong) used the halo 3 beta to help market crackdown. These companies aren't enemies, they're all working men and women trying to make good product for their fans and to also put dinner on the table. So it really doesn't hurt Bungie to advertise Shadowrun because maybe the company needed some help getting the game known and out into the open. I for one will be buy it :)

I really don't like the way that Microsoft is using Bungie to market other games. First the Halo 3 Beta invitation through Crackdown, and now this Shadowgun [sic] Run whatever crap? I mean come on, they are actually using Bungie's website to get awareness of their games out. In all fairness, that Shadow whooha game does look decent, at least better then Crapdown [sic]. Then you probably just don't like capitalism (It's OK, neither do I). The reason Bungie does things that are advantageous for Microsoft, is because Bungie is Microsoft's property. I'm sure the Bungie people appreciate your devotion to their creations, but I guarantee that most of them probably like to play all sorts of competitor's games. What they're doing is art, and they happen to be conforming to a capitalist economic system in order to survive and be able to have access to the creative resources that it requires to make games with the quality that they do. But I'm guessing that they view games like Crackdown and Shadowrun as really cool and fun things more than "competition". What I'm getting at is that capitalism perpetuates the delusion that competition is always healthy/necessary. In the case of art (Or any other endeavor where the consumer is actively concerned with aesthetic quality), competition isn't what really drives the quality of the product. As far as quality is concerned, I say the more games the better: All the more for developers (Both working and aspiring) to be inspired by. The only time that competition becomes "important" is when you factor in those little federal "promises" we're so quick to believe in...

To be fair, the interview indicates that Shadowrun's lead designer, John Howard, was also the design lead for Halo 1. And Bart House did the networking for Halo 2 and Shadowrun. This, I think, is more of a case of Bungie helping out its alumni than being forced by Microsoft to "pimp" a bad game.

That said, we don't know what kind of conversations led to Shadowrun being a front page article on B.net, so it's probably best not to speculate.

I work for the Department of Defense.

You're spamming the Septagon with how much you love bungie in order to show us all how much you love bungie..?

First you talk about Members vs Mods.

Then you talk about Bungie join dates...

And now your talking about how much you love love love bungie?

I kinda get the feeling your just trying to spam your name around in the Septagon as if its a popularity contest or something.

Challenging the mods, questioning the way the forum is built, and talking about how much you love bungie help the community how?

On topic The only reason bungie is what it is is due to Microsoft's support. Same go's for the thousands of other companies they have assisted.

I'm not really sure of the statistic (would love TO know, but I don't) Of the percentage of employee's at bungie who either support or decline Microsoft's assistance.

I don't want to read about a game I have no interest in on the website that brought me my favorite video game series.
Yeah, what's all this "Halo 3" crap? I don't care about that, more marathon updates!

Oh wait, I guess we can't all get exactly what we want. Why not just not read that update? Personally, I found it interesting; I'm looking forward to Shadowrun, and I'm happy to know there's going to be a demo! The style of play should appeal to many Halo players, so maybe Bungie thought they'd be nice and give us a heads-up about a game they found fun and we might enjoy, based on our (obvious) love of the Halo series? It's obviously MS cross-marketing, but it's not that bad.

As a side note, several of the people working on Shadowrun worked for Bungie, and the two developers have traded artists around etc. It's related to Bungie that way, so why not put it up on the site?

You're beginning to get on my nerves, 'MLG_Achronos'. I don't really like your posts. That doesn't mean I'm going to start a thread asking to get your posts removed from the forum - unlike you, I realise the futility of such a crusade, and how my personal opinions should not really be the basis for changes to this site. >.<

He is now head of MatchMaking but how will he know what to do if he doesn't ever visit the Optimatch forums for ideas?

You have this backwards. He makes the playlists and everyone deals with it. Bungie has always used playlist statistics as thier main analysis tool. They usually get rid of playlists that rarely get played. The backlash and fervor you hear in the Optimatch forum is nothing more than a very vocal, and most of the time, obnoxious minority.

As you said, matchmaking is his job. That means he makes the decisions. It doesnt mean he is told what to do by the community.

Then don't. You're complaining to Bungie.net because you read something. That's the beauty of the internet in general and the paradigm of hyper-linked documents in particular: A small amount of relevant text can be "linked" to a larger amount of text that expands upon the subject of the linked text. If you don't want to read it, then don't -blam!- read it.

"Assisted" is a very pleasant analog for "purchased". I'm not contending anything you're saying; I'm just pointing out that the most accurate term would be purchased.

If you want to see the MC die, play Legendary. If you want to see MC finish the fight, play Halo 3. If you want to see MC finish the fight by dieing, why did you waste six years when you could have done it yourself right now?

☼►Popular Fusion - Doing anything, everything, and then some.◄☼

Think about it this way. There probably wouldn't be an Xbox 360 if it wasn't for Halo CEs popularity back in the day. It would have been dead in the water. Popularity is a powerful thing. Why is it so wrong for Microsoft to attempt to harness this energy. Forget all the "Microsoft is evil" shenanigans! You know this is working, right? I was already amped up about Shadowrun and was already planning to buy it. Why is getting the word out to an ignorant audience a bad thing? One or two people don't want to see it? I certainly do. If you don't like it YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ IT!!!
