If it were "a few people" it wouldn't have derailed things. It was way more than a few.

I fail to see what waiting to change playlists until the map downloads were fixed, your dislike of our valid reasons for changing BTB, and your misplaced belief in made up release dates that weren't given by us have to do with each other.

"Almost everyone should now be able to download the maps now, and the bonus is that we can now accelerate the maps’ introduction into matchmaking."

Don't you mean restart the process? I'm actually pretty pissed that the whole community has been delayed because a few people couldn't play the new maps.

There's a lot of heat about people thinking they deserve the maps right away like everyone else but unless you were charged money and couldn't get them, you really aren't entitled to anything.

A Guide to Networking, Matchmaking, and Host in Halo (HBO mirror)

Bungie Friends and Family invitee, and sender of "random emails" about networking.

I called support, and they only thing they told me was that I have to migrate my account back to my old xbox and change the settings, but since I dont have it anymore, looks like Im done playing Halo

You cannot access account management on your original xbox once it has been migrated to the Xbox 360. The information you have been given is false.

It's just a game folks.

Its not annoying, its wrong. Where else can a company get away with selling you something without any limitations and then stipulate, AFTER THE PURHCHASE WAS MADE, that the said item could not be used as intended. No where. I paid money for an item that was intended to be used in matchmaking, and come to find out it's use was limited based on the terms that were dictated to me post-purchase. There is no debate here. Bungie has handled this situation in the most unprofessional way possible. Yes, unprofessional.

I would like to hear a rebuttal in reference to this statement from anyone: How is it NOT unprofessional to sell and item, collect money for it, and then place stipulations on its use after the fact? I paid $4 for maps to be used in matchmaking. Only after I made the purchase was I made aware that I could not use these maps in matchmaking because of their poor testing practices. Please, don't insult our intelligence by preaching fairness and good-samaritanism to us. This is about providing the product that was advertised at the time of purchase and using it as it was intended at the time of purchase, nothing more.

Thats what I thought. So I'm going to call again and hopefully get a more competent person this time.

edit: why would i think someone competent would actually work for xbox live support?

Haha I love this.

I made a new account, put my credit card on it, go to download the new maps, and now I get "Purchased failed, please try again later"

Looks like this problem is solved /sarcasm

You know, we wouldn't even of had this problem with the downloading of the maps if MS weren't so greedy and just gave us the maps for free. If that was the case the update would of happened last week.

  • 05.02.2007 2:18 PM PDT

Respect The Game

Are you kidding!!!?? Now you say you'll have more on the MM update soon??! It's already a week late. You say the number of people with problems is significant, yet all my friends and their friends had no problems. Also TONS of people on here are screaming for the update. SO even if it was 75 - 25 that didn't have problems, which HAS to be way to high a number, then it should have been reset.

Either way, like SO many have said WE wouldn't have bought these maps 2 and a half years after realease and 3 weeks before the Beta, IF they weren't going to be in MM. I mean I wouldn't have even messed with downloading them for free is they were JUST for customs. Wouldn't be worth the trouble. Payed for them, waited for them, wanted them for MM, only.

So for the last week it has sucked ass waiting a whole other week, just to find out it looks like at least another week. Well it's 2 weeks to the Beta so if you updated TONIGHT then I would only have 2 weeks to play my maps I PAYED FOR!! Unbelievable.

Don't tell me to just play it after the Beta either. I usually don't pop in NBA or NFL 2K1, know why? Because I might want to NOT go back in time. Didn't get a 360 to play the old versions of games that are out.

I've ditched Gears, Rainbow, GRAW, and Row to keep playing Halo, but now I think I'm going back to them like the rest of my friends that have all been slighted.

Are you really that imature to think you deserve the maps for free? They have put a lot of time and money to makes those maps they arent going to just give them to you. We are lucky that the maps weren't more money so you really should stop complaining. Also why is everyone freaking out about the playlist not being out yet??????? They finally just got the map problem fixed they arent going to have the playlist update come out on the same day because they need to give the people who are having trouble downloading the maps a chance to download them before the can no longer do matchmaking since they dont have the maps. You people really need to be more considerate of other people and stop thinking of just yourself.

That means that your Xbox 1 had them disabled, and when you got a 360, you lost the ability to turn them back on (the setting on the 360 only works for 360 premium content).

The upshot is that calling support will fix that - they can reset that setting, even though you cannot.

Well looks like that is my only shot i will try it tommorow. Don't ask me why i can't do it today. I just can't do it today

Still getting the Premium Purchases problem. Whatever you guys fixed didn't solve my problem. I'm gonna try fiddling with the settings in my old LIVE Xbox.

It's just a game folks.

DeadlyTedyBear,

So you are content to let others walk all over you so that they can substantiate their own agenda? Again, this has nothing to do with fairness or good-samaritanism. Until people start realizing that, Bungie will continue to take advantage of your indifference. You're only hurting yourself and other consumers with that mindset. Bungie, and most other companies, would love nothing more than for every consumer to be as indifferent and naive as you. In that instance, they can manipulate any situation as long as there is someone out there like you willing to take it like a champ.

I still say making them free would fix the problem. I don't want to be having to go back and forth between my old Xbox and the 360 trying to get things to work. Screw the maps until they're made free. I'll go play Gears of War.

Absolutely. $20 says the Gears update this week will go off without a hitch and I will bet another $20 that the maps will be available for online play at that very same moment. Imagine that.

Yeah, but can you get GoW on the original Xbox? The problem, as repeatedly stated by Bungie, was getting the content distributed to both consoles.

If the majority of the people now have the maps, then Bungie could do the "minority" a favor and just make the damn things free. If we're a small number of people, they've made their money on the maps. They could take the easy way out, but they have to suck their measly 4$ out of everyone. You'd be doing everybody who bought Crackdown just to play a Halo 3 beta for three weeks a favor by making the new maps free; it's just common courtesy....

Why can't Bungie just make it so that when you go into matchmaking and you are unable to download the new maps, that a "Failed to load the map" message appears. Don't make everyone who paid for the maps suffer just because a few ten year old kids can't download them because their parents won't let them access the account. And another thing, how about a specific time and date for the stats reset because it seems like whenever I play matchmaking it is for nothing.

  • 05.02.2007 3:24 PM PDT

It's just a game folks.

I can get the original H2 map packs on both consoles. Whats different? To this day, I can go into the in-game downloader and redownload the older map packs. I would agree with your concerns if this was not the case.

"and the bonus is that we can now accelerate the maps’ introduction into matchmaking." Accelerate, aren't they supposed to be in the matchmaking gametypes already? Oh yeah that was supposed to happen last week, and when it didn't it was supposed to happen this week, but no dice. I know they are busy with H3 but this just seems a little ridiculous that they can't add the new maps in yet.

I can't see why. If you went into the supermarket one day and they were sold out of bread, would you go in the next day demanding a free loaf because it would be 'common courtesy' and you were one of the only people without bread? I don't think so, and if you would, then that's seriously messed up, dude ;)

  • 05.02.2007 3:28 PM PDT

Respect The Game

well actually a lot of places, i.e. Blockbuster and Hollywood video, if you go to get something and it's not in you'll get it free next time.

They realize that you spent time out of your life to give them money and show you some respect. If you have trouble or are inconvienced with a purchase then by all means the company should make it right. It's called good customer service.

I on the other hand had the maps the second they came out and was already annoyed I'd have to wait about a week to enjoy them, and now it's gotten rediculous. Even without the Beta coming up I'd feel the same way, but with it coming this is complete bull -blam!-.

No, I would go to the deli and pick up a loaf there.

The point is, this problem has existed for a while. There is a solution: make them free. Both Xbox 360 and Xbox owners have no problems downloading the free map packs. They've had quite a while to fix this problem, and we are still having problems. Not to mention people have invested quite a bit in Halo and Halo 2 over the years, from the millions of copies it sold to people buying another Xbox to mod Halo 2 for their own purposes (excluding LIVE modders). Halo has become a hit, and is the pinnacle franchise on the Xbox platform. You'd think Bungie and Microsoft would be grateful. Halo 2 has done it's bidding on the Xbox. I would make them free as a "thank-you" to all of the consumers who have helped Halo become such a kick-ass game and help the Xbox along the way.
