The End

‘The conscious is cancerous if allowed to linger’

"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."

Well the groups are back and well... I am questioning if the wait for the groups was worth it. So far I see no new features, less skins and a worse lay out, correct me if I am wrong but why did we have to wait so long?!

I don't know if there is perhaps things going on behind the scenes but at the mo it seems the web team haven't taken onboard any fan suggestions and have left the groups in my opinion worse than before. I don't want to come across harshly but it is how I feel and I think this is a topic for conversation-

Viva La Old B.net!

I kinda expected what we got. It had been made clear that the Beta is taking up almost all of the resources available and groups weren't anywhere near important when compared to the Beta. So, I'm not really disappointed, because I saw it coming.

Yep, I'm with Meech (Quick! I think Hell has frozen over!). Just based on how most resources are going into designing aspect of the site for the Beta and Halo 3, then we would either just get groups with a new skin or wait until after Halo 3. At least we have them again.

The online web team is preparing for the increase in traffic and the stats tracking portion of Halo3. The stats portion I would assume is a monumental undertaking so it is probably taking up most of their time.

Wrong is not a word that can be used to describe me. I can simply be mistaken, never wrong.

  • 05.03.2007 9:33 AM PDT

The only thing I'm disappointed with are the skins, they're pretty much all the same except for the main pic banner at the top of the forum. Kind of gives off a vague sterile appeal. At least before we could have a little uniqueness to our groups by using a totally different color, font, etc. than the main B.net forum.

What I really want is the ability of enabling BB tags for certaian users, say I could use [color] and [img] and so could some mods use [img] for example. I'd also like to set roles to be able to have different default text colors, say I write in yellow, mods in purple or orange etc. Roles that can't use [color] would still have uniqueness. This would be abused stupidly by some groups but I think it would be great features for sensible groups and a good way of showing authority and doing caption contests etc.

Someone has to make the terabytes of data we collect into something worth looking at. We are attempting to exceed Halo 2's website integration features in every way.

So, yeah, that's really more important... especially when only 6000 or so users actually use the groups, and the number of people impacted by Halo 3 work goes... significantly higher than that.

We all knew that already. No offense, but even with that same exact knowledge a month ago, you still said groups would come back WAY better. I understand that nobody is perfect, I just don't see the point of running around the facts.

I understand your logic. I just hope that someone at Bungie has time to add new features:

*admin: message all member button
*colored fonts for admins/ninjas in groups
*main page article announcing groups
*return of the guestbook
*more formatting options for groups
*multiple forums for large groups
*Pimps@Sea theme :P

While it is certainly justification for placing groups at the bottom of the priority list, I hope that this argument is not sufficient to bring about the demise of the 7th Column in the future. I express my thanks to Achronos and the rest of the b.net crew for getting the groups up and running again.

Does ANYONE prefer the new groups to the old ones?

I prefer the new community home page for groups. We haven't seen the final form of the new groups yet, so any speculation or judgement by me would be premature.

The new groups are good but.....something doesn't feel right.
And it definently wasn't worth the wait.

Yes, they feel... different. The community and members are as great as ever but the layout, it doesn't feel as unique as before or as customisable...

I think we all feel the wait wasn't worth it :-(

it is just a port with less features of the old groups and I lost my custom resorces too *sob*!

Personally, I'm not dissapointeed at all. I finally created a group that I feel like keeping active, and more than the forum and articles I do not need. More features would just be a bonus.

  • 05.04.2007 7:26 AM PDT

I am also feeling a bit disappointed. I was hopeing for at least the same that we had, but the new forums are not the same and are lacking what the old ones had. I hope that Bungie will re-visit the groups portion once Halo 3 is released because I'm sure at that point groups will once again become something that is largely used.

I am thinking about taking my group off of Bungie for features that are not even touched by the current groups.

I honestly love the new groups. You guys should all make mock groups to see what they did change in the admin controls, all the new thmes, etc. There are a few new things in there you guys might like, as well as the interface being far smoother.

That's because a month ago, we weren't going to be brining them back until later this year.

We decided that would be very bad, and made this intermediate step.

Nobody is "dancing" around facts here.

Uh, the forums are the same as the public forums. They've always been like this. Expecting the groups to have different forum software is, well, the wrong expectation.
