I say you shouldn't play Halo unless you can make coherent sentences and capitalize your I's. I guess 80% of the people in these forums shouldn't be playing Halo.

i say you shouldnt play Halo unless you loosen up on how people write in forums.

ok, that i agree on. improper grammer and punctuation, to an extent, does get annoying.

I'm 20.

I don't have a problem with younger gamers at all, a lot of them are actually pretty chill. But sometimes someone with a higher pitched voice can be a bit more annoying.....

I feel that anyone should be able to enjoy any game they want unless they are being idiots about it (ie. a person that kills you and says noob every single time he kills anyone). Even then, they should be confined to them versus bots so that they can still enjoy the game... alone. It's a game and it will come with smack talk and teasing but there is a fine line between the previously mentioned and pure idiocy which Halo players cross all too often.

As for the aged gamers, good for you and rock on!

I got into a minor back-and-forth on another forum post where someone said finding out they're playing with an older player (by that he meant anyone over 22 or so) "creep(ed) him out." My response was that I've been a video game player since the Atari (anyone remember the old Combat game with the tanks?). I'm not going to quit now that I'm an "old guy." I can finally enjoy these games the way they were meant to played on my big screen, hi-def TV, with a kicking surround sound system, and a $400 Xbox 360 (do these kids appreciate how much money that really is?). Why quit now when I've got all the cool toys?

As far as the ESRB rating goes, I don't even let my 5, 7, and 9 year olds watch me play. It's like a rated R movie in that there is blood and killing in it, and it's up to parents to decide whether or not their children are mature enough to play it. Judging by the fact that I've been more annoyed by the trash talking of kids that sound like they haven't hit puberty yet, I'd say there are a good number of parents out there who are doing a poor job parenting. Don't misunderstand me. The majority of all players are a pleasure to play with. It just seems like the majority of the childish ones are, well, children. I've run into some older "children" too, and they get ignored and reported just as fast....

This game is rated Mature and meant for people 17+. The fact that their are so many kids playing this game just shows how many bad parents their are in America.

im 15, my parents arn't bad. I grew up in a military family so Halo is no real comparison to real life.

What's worse? A 10 year old talking trash... or the 39 year old who can't take it from a 10 year old?
i would say that their on the same level. im 25 and while its annoying to listen to some 10 year old who wont shut up, its worse to listen to some of the older people who take this GAME waaaaay to serious. grow up people this is for fun bungie isn't going to come to your house and blow you for being a high rank get a grip.

The tank battle game for the Atari 2600? That rocked!. We had one of the big 6 foot projection screen TVs (back in the day).

I'm 37. Have been playing video games since I got a Commadore 64 with some cheesy ansci graphics games and the text only adventure games. Had a 2600, played Intellivision at a friends house, went through the Doom and Duke Nukem thing, played the Nintendo, SNES, Sega Jaguar, Panasonic 3DO, Genisis, Dremcast, PS1, PS2, and now my 360.

Rember the pre-internet message boards and phone modems?

While I don't mind playing with younger players, I think it's hilarious that some of them think they invented gaming.

You kids invented crappy dialogue and abbreviated text-messaging, wow, i'm in awe of your greatness.

ETA: I think a 10 year old should be doing their homework so their grammar doesn't suck and a 39 year old should really have a thicker hide. Common, he's 10, what the hell does he know.

What am I?

I'm 15 now, and during the ages of 13 and 14 I was yelling obscenities into my mic constantly. My parents never disciplined me for it, because I did not allow them to hear it, and gradually I grew out of it. I'll still cuss if I want to for whatever reason, but the difference is I don't want to do so as often.

Meanwhile there are ten year olds who are perfectly behaved, and 24 year olds who let out ear-splitting shrieks into their mics for the fun of it. Wtf.

  • 07.27.2007 7:32 PM PDT

Sometimes its funny when a five year old or a twenty year old talks trash because they think they're so good cause they insulted you or whatever. But all in all, it doesn't make any difference cause no one gives a crap, lol.

-yawn- The majority of players looks to be between the ages of 11-20, which kills the ESRB rating of M.

I'm 14 and got a 360 and halo 2 for my birthday last Friday. It's been tons of fun so far, and haven't gotten into much trash talking lately as bad as you guys put it.

But I do throw in a 'curse' word here and there when I'm playing with my friends, joking around and such, like any friend would. But in MM games when I'm all alone I rarely talk at all, just because there's usually no need to.

I'm planning on getting Halo 3 the day of or after it comes out and probably finish the campaign first before I even attempt to play on live. Heh, all i've done with my 360 is play on live so far. Single player comes as a bore to me when you've done it once or twice at a friend/cousin's house and stuff.

Anyone feel free to send me a friend request.

I think it's pretty funny that like on AIM [AOL Instant Messenger for you old folks. ;)] I am probably the only kid in my school that capitalizes/punctuates/actually spells out words while instant messaging/text messaging.

Not to be conceited, but I do consider myself one of the more "popular" students in my grade, and strangely, one of the most intelligent.
I don't know if that's how it is in other kids' schools that are about my age but according to the influence that TV shows has put on me it seems a bit out of place if you catch my drift.

On some other online games I play in my free time, I find it funny that people mistake me for someone that is considered an adult in the US... until they get to talking to me and find that I'm just the kind of person who is both intelligent and hilarious to speak to.

From that game I had to make a special MSN Messenger Account just for all of the players that I talk to, which I think I'm the youngest, and sadly, one of the best players there, lmao.

I know that this has nothing to do with Bungie and Halo 2, but it just comes to show that age means nothing in this time.

[Oh, and sorry for the double post, just wanted to get my point across.]

Ok, I'm 41 by the way; and one of the best things about HALO is that I can play on teams with both of my sons who are 20 and 24 and live in different states. We talk more when playing than we ever did before online gaming. And yes, they're both better than me (in HALO at least).

On the idea of the younger players being better, that is absolutely NOT the case. One of my good friends Henryace, is in his mid 30s and he's a Level 17. My friends all joke when we play with him that if we get killed, it's OK cause Henry's on our team and we'll still win. The REALITY is, the players who are the BEST, are generally the players that play the MOST; HALO is a game of repetition, the more consistantly you play, the better you get (generally). Of course the younger players are going to be better when they play all the time. They come home from school and play for 6 hours, then play for 10 or more on the weekend days. Most of us that are older have lives and responsibilities and can't waste all our time playing HALO (although sometimes I would like to). Some of my older friends that are awesome players, are that good because their lifestyles allow them to play a LOT.

Spirat3x, you mentioned talking to the other age people on one of the other games and getting along with them. You understand something that most of the players of school age don't realize; that age doesn't generally mean anything once you're out of high school. Once you enter the adult working world, the people working around you may be the same age or 10 years older or younger, you just look at them as co-workers. I've worked in several high-volume nightclubs where the employees ranged from 18 to 50, and after work, everyone would go out together and have a blast, no one cared how old anyone was, because if you're friends with someone, you're friends with them, not their birth date. And video games cross generations, they're one of the few things in which a 45 year old and a 15 year old may share the same interest and enthusiasm, but there's nothing wierd or creepy about it (as long as they're not saying wierd or creepy stuff online or trying to meet in real life).

On TRASH TALKING (the truly rude kind), it ALSO crosses generations. I've heard a lot of jerks (I'm being polite using the word jerks instead of using the proper word to describe them) and they come in ALL ages. I've heard some really messed up stuff said by people I know for a fact are adults, and from the kids; and it doesn't belong in game playing. It is one of the unfortunate side-effects of the anonymity that the internet provides, you see it on bulletin boards as well. I'm 6' 5" 235 lbs. and I can GUARANTEE that there are very few people who would say anything rude or threatening to my face, but it sometimes happens online. On the other hand, when it happens, I blow it off, getting annoyed at it is stupid and a waste of my time. Why should I care about something some idiot said when I killed them or they killed me? And for those idiots that call everyone a noob, just remember, if you're THAT good, maybe it means you have no life outside of HALO and should seek thereapy.

As far as this old guy's gaming abilities, I may be only a level 4 in HALO, but I leave the school kids crying in my dust playing Need for Speed Carbon, I've beat EVERY Grand Theft Auto game to 100% completion using NO cheat codes, and there are very few games that I ever get beat in, so I think overall I can stand up to the best of the game players out there.

Sorry for writing so much, didn't realize how long this was till the end.

You speak alot of sense and its ok for writing too much your forgiven :D Personally im 16 and in my opinion im very sportsman ship like when i play online im always good game at the end of the match even if i was beaten 50-0 - this never happens but you know what i mean. Trashtalkers do, do my head in but i try and ignore them. Some younger players can be annoying and i belive are the biggest population in the trash talking group. But there are some older players who think there the best thing since sliced bread and so when you beat them badly they dont hesitate to call you a noob hence challanging you to a 1 on 1 quiting early because they are being beaten.

I've been playing Halo 2 since I was fourteen. Luckily for me I was blessed with a good education and a deep voice at the age of 13. Most people still think I'm in my 20's online. I'm turning 17 in September.

I personally don't think anyone under the age of 13 should play Halo, but that's just my opinion. I also don't think you can be too old to play Halo, because Halo is rated 18+ in the first place.
