Leave no man behind. But be prepared to stand alone.
A Halo2 profile, Dallas 33, & MyBloodyBullets---you guys are in my bracket. I'm 48. A coworker half my age convinced me just over two years ago that I'd like RE4, loaned me his Gamecube and his game, and I've been playing ever since. I picked up an Xbox, bought Halo:CE & Halo 2, and have a number of other games in my collection. I now have a 360, of course. I'm a shooter fan bigtime. Halo is just the ultimate in my opinion, and excels in every respect....If I were the owner or the manager of a game store, I'd not allow the sale of any M rated game to those under 17. But what a parent allows their children to do with their supervision or consent is something I can't be responsible for. I would simply and strongly urge parents to be aware of what their kids can and cannot handle, and to note how their kids behave in connection with the whole interactive experience. A great way for parents to know is to play the games with them. A guy I play with alot is 52 and his son is 16. It's good to hear him carrying on parental duties online just as he would otherwise. Parents should remember that game consoles are not babysitters. I have a niece who is 10 and plays video games, mostly racing titles. I was playing Halo:CE one day, campaign mode. I have a 770 watt amp and a 500 watt sub through which I play, and didn't hear my niece come into the room. She had earlier been playing Need for Speed on my rig. Anyway, I was lettin' it rip with Johnson and the Marines against Elites and Grunts, so I was focused onscreen. I happened to glance over my shoulder and there sat my niece, her eyes as big as saucers. I asked her if she was okay. She says, "Yeah. What's that?!" She was referring to an Elite moving in. And she was tickled pink at the Grunts. She even served as my spotter---"Watch it, one's coming down from the left!" I played for another ten minutes or so when a Grunt tagged me with a sticky. At that, I shut the game off, telling my niece that was all for now. She handled seeing the combat well, but I would never allow her to play the game alone. Halo has far less gore than most games I've seen with an M rating, the language is minimal, and there's no strong suggestive material as in other games of that rating. But the intensity of some of the battles (the Flood fights, for example) is pretty high....I've got a saying for us older gamers; "Game till you're lame, then adapt and overcome." Have I got a life. You bet! I work a nine to five and read countless pages of heavy duty material on subjects of interest to me as I've done for years. I can easily squeeze gaming into my schedule.
