To me, it's always been more "Join the 7th column or we'll stike you down with lightning bolts of Zeus... and then launch you from the slingshot."

Yeah, Zeus. As in father of Apollo? Mt. Olympus? Don't -blam!- with me or I'll shove a lightning bolt up your ass?

I'll take the case!

Does that mean you will not remake Terminal?

*slap!*
As much as I liked that one ( I'm not joking), it really really really hurt my eyes.

If you don't got it, you want it. If you got it, you want more of it. Of course if you don't know what it is, it's hard to get any in the first place.

I don't think Terminal would be quite so bad the 2nd time around...so long as there was more to it than just the original. Too much contrast on that level makes for pain. Toned down it could be very fun...

I'd be the hero (bastard?) to remake Terminal if I had the THEME BUILDER... >_>'

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Though I don't honestly know, I think that symbol is meant only to connote world domination, as most everyone else has already told you. Also, it does look pretty cool, so I'm sure that's the primary purpose for it being there. Just as most people like that image of Che Guevara because it looks cool; rather than what it represents, I'd imagine the 7th column symbol is there because its interesting. I doubt its touting any particular system of government.

Although, Bungie likes to hide things everywhere, and they like double meanings. Perhaps there is something to it, and perhaps there is nothing to it. That sounds rather Bungish... Perhaps that was their real intention all along.

It does remind me of a kind of personified Fasces though. But, that's the opposite end of that political spectrum. So many things it could or could not represent. Hahahaha. I'm not going down this rabbit hole. I'll leave it to you.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

I know this discussion is over, but I still want to contribute my 2 cents.

You're not talking about the symbol of the Communist Party. As earlier noted, that is the hammer and sickle. You are talking about the Red Fist of the Progressive Labor Party, a political party with fundamental Communist views that broke off from the official Communist Party United States back in the 1960s.

And yet, you must realize that the symbol of a fist held in the air has long been used by many groups to signify power. Indeed, the fist is the the primary weapon of an unarmed human, and is a favorite subject of artists.

Krokguard, I know that you were just trying to spark a discussion, so I'm not picking on you at all here. In a very general sense, I just want to give my opinion that it is patently unfair to tell someone that they should not be using a symbol similar to those that thousands of people, groups, and nations have used simply because it reminds you of a somewhat symbol that was used by one of those groups which happened to be a political party with radical views. I love the fist, and I hope that it's here forever.

I must warn you guys, this revolutionary theme - so long as it sticks to the communist art style - is probably going to be very bad on the eyes. Perhaps even terminally bad.

Terminal is like the Chiron of Chapter Themes, you love to hate it, and it loves being hated.

The 7th Column probably comes from the phrase 5th Column. The 5th Column refers to The Siege of Madrid, the citizens inside Madrid who were trying to take down the government from within were called the 5th Column. These people were communists. Later, the people in -blam!- occupied countries who were fighting against the dominant fascist government forces were called the 5th Column. Today the 5th column refers to people who pledge loyalty to another country other than their own.
Now why has Bungie named it's most loyal fans the 7th Column? Well when the zero hour approaches they are going to have us forsake our mother lands and pledge allegiance to Bungie. They will count on us to take down our governments from within and hand over the power to them. In conclusion although the people who were called the 5th column may have been communists they all have one thing in common, a want no a need for change.

Thats the russian/soviet flag, not communism

The Soviet flag... the Chinese flag... the Vietnamese, the Angolese and the Mozambique flag. All of those have/had it, and all of them were governed by Communist parties.

Actually red with yellow star(s) is the only think that all of those have in common, I think the sickle is only on the soviet and angolan flags, and the hammer is only on the soviet flag... if my memory is right, which i'm pretty sure it is

I work here: Sound Devices, LLC. We make bad-ass field audio gear, and you think that's awesome. My messy desk (With work-related items on the computer screen).

Very interesting. I can't figure out (For the life of me) what word got "-blam!-"ed out in this sentence: ...the people in ???? occupied countries...?

Yeah they decided to censor that word because of overuse in the forums to insult people -- much like "bad kid" or the other n-words are being used today. While the word is occasionally used in-context, as Sipx was using it, most people were using it way out of context and in such a manner that it was extremely offensive to almost everybody. I agree with the decision to blam it out, but it can occasionally be frustrating.

You're actually right. I've been studying Chinese history and security policy in prep for an interview I have, and I got the Chinese state flag mixed up with the CCP flag and the old Jiangxi Soviet Republic flag - both of which have represented Chinese communism. The rest I foolishly believed a wikipedia article about. This reporter promises to be more trusting in future. :D

Why the simbol of the 7th column remember the left hand, the simbol of the comunism?
I doubt it has much if anything to do with communism. However, left hands do tend to show up in the strangest places in Bungie lore. Just check the final screen of Marathon Infinity or this excerpt on the Watcher.

If you look it without the bolt, it looks really the comunist simbol.

If you clench your left hand into a fist and look at it...
