Well, I just have to say, isn't it kind of pathetic that you have to have Windows Vista to run Halo 2? Isn't there ever gonna be a Halo for windows XP? I'm never going to upgrade to that horrid system (sorry if I offend you) and the only reason I'm using Windows XP is for my school (home schooled). But yeah, I think its pretty crazy that you have to have vista.

Now, another thing, how come my computer is "choppy" when I'm playing Halo? I have:
1.6ghz intel laptop CPU
64mb Video Card
1 gig of ram.
Yet the system requirements for halo, are way less than what I have! I'm over doubled on their "system" requirements, yet I have to have the video settings almost all the way down to the minimum to get a good number of frames per second. I sure can't wait to get rid of this laptop and get a new intel iMac so I can get Halo for the mac :P. (and when I get an iMac I'll get one with an awesome video card :D)

One last thing, the pistol owns! Only takes 3 headshots to kill someone (with shields!)

Does anybody have xFire?

Vista > XP
not to start a flame war, but basicly Windows is better for gaming. as far as I see, if you like to make movies and so : go for a Mac.
your CPU and Graphics card is the one thats Horrendous. Laptops arn't meant for gaming unless they're really good or specialized so, otherwise they will be choppy even playing old games (your case).

  • 05.05.2007 9:06 AM PDT

That's the other thing I was gonna say, your CPU and graphics card are terrible. Just because you double the system requirements, doesn't necessarily mean the game will run well. You should see some screenshots of people playing the game on a computer that just barely meets the minimumm specs, it rapes your eyes.

anyway, i get MUCH better FPS on XP than vista on halo PC mostly cause the game was not made for vista.

if it just started getting choppy i suggest going into task manager and seeing whats taking up most the processes

ok 3 things:
1. it isnt pathetic that halo 2 is coming out for vista only it makes perfect sense. you wana know why? the answer is because of windows live. it cant run on XP and never will. it would take too much time and money to make it run on XP and the update would be huge to boot. and 2 they are trying to market their new OS

2. it is choppy for possibly 2 reasons 1: you video card might....scratch that probably is integrated which runs off of your existing ram and eats computer performance. 2. its called minimum specs for a reason. minimum specs run @ bare minimum so if you are slightly above min specs then you should run the game on low settings. if you are running it on high you are gonna get horrid choppyness

3. you might have your registy and other stuff full of crap which slows your computer down horribly. try disk defrag and disk clean up. also you might be loaded with viruses and/or spyware which hinder computer performance.
here is a link that has downloadedble stuff to get rid of them

I know all that LOL.

My video card is NOT integrated, thankfully. I'm doubling minimal specs, so I should be running at full quality. I was able to tweak it a bit more to get 1074 by 768 resolution with graphics on HIGH for both texture and particles. Thats the best I can get on my computer.
Yes I have run task manager and nothing is taxing my CPU (except HALO LOL). I don't have any viruses or anything, and my disk is fairly clean.
Oh and I never knew the part about windows live, so I guess HALO 2 will never fun for XP.

Acting like pre and post pubescent idiots who feel confident behind Internet anonymity? Even though it's applicable to the majority of our members, we ask that they not do that here.

Its really funny how its obvious that most you guys don't have a clue why they ported H2 to vista.

They did it so they could get more sales off Vista. Period.

It wouldn't have cost them much more to port it to XP. Besides, the extra amount would probably be a molecule in the sea that is Microsoft's bank account.

Well one thing your older laptops were not for gaming. You have a craptastic laptop for gaming. Also I have used vista for months and have had no issues with it, other then finding a decent fire wall that worked with it.

The Halo engine itself is old choppy crap. Can't fix that with insane parts. Halo 2 came out for Vista because, Microsoft is aiming for Vista to be the new Gaming OS, with Games features built into the OS. You can call it whatever you want, a scam, whatever, it's happening, and we can't fix it.

Eh, some people might eventually crack it somehow to work on XP, but I'm on Vista ready, so yea.

fail

they didnt port it to vista to sell vista. if they did it for that reason then why would they design Live and DX10 (and yes H2V uses direct x 10 but it doesnt use any of its capabilities. it makes dx10 mimic dx9 and such. read something about it but dont understand most of it cuse im not a programmer) also H@V uses Live which wont and never will work on XP. sure if H2V sells a few copies of vista then yes they are happy but the main purpose wanst to sell vista.

in reality the main purpose was to (other than make money) introduce windows live, test and introduce tray and play, and increase hype for Halo 3. (and possibly set the grounds for porting h3 to pc)

Oh, come on! Even if Windows Vista was as bad as you say it is (which it certainly is not), what makes you think it won't be improved? It's the next Windows operating system, for Pete's sake. They've been working on it for years. It's meant to replace XP, and it will. DX10 is going to be only for Vista. And if people want to play the next-generation of DX10 titles they're going to have to upgrade to Vista. Eventually, Windows VIsta will become the operating system of choice for gaming and will become superior to the outdated Windows XP. Seriously.

Ok idiot-I mean Vidiot, your video card is too low. You need at least 256MB VRAM no matter what the Halo box says.

dude you need to upgrade your specs if you are having problems. seriously though gaming laptops are not really that great, dnt expect great performance unless you payed a lot of money.

thats why I'm getting a new iMac when I get the chance :O. It will have much better spec that my current comp ;).

I should get about $700 for my laptop, and I have roughly $200, so there's $900. I can get one of the top end models USED for $900, but I'm hoping to go for the TOP end model that when used, is $1,500. That will give me 1g ram, 250g hard drive, 2.16ghz intel chip, 24inch screen (:O), and a NVIDIA 7300 GT 128mb video card.

If I had the money, I'd probably upgrade to the NVIDIA 7600 GT 256mb video card (extra $125)

However, I'll probably just get the 20" iMac, with a 2.16ghz intel chip, 1g ram, 250g hard drive, and ATI Radeon X1600 128mb video card (upgrade to 256mb video card for just an extra $75). That would be a $1,575 mac, but used for about $1,100 online.

How's that sound? (the 20" iMac?)

1.The only thing pathetic about upgrading are the people who won't.
2.Are you below the age of playing this like SEVERALY, otherwise you would probrobly upgrade because you probrobly would have a job.
3.You don't just have to upgrade to play halo 2, pretty soon you need to upgrade for evreything.
4.No one cares if you upgrade or not so don't tell us.
5.NO, no one here has Xfire not a single person.
6.Mac's SUCK!

Ok I have a few things to say,
#1 Vidiot, if you think XP is better then Vista then something is wrong with you, I've yet to use Vista, but I've read bad things about it, heard bad things about it. but I've read and heard better things about, and if you're going to try to force a the people making H2V to make halo 2 for the XP, then you're going to have a -blam!- load of money behind you, alone with a -blam!- load of research on why Halo 2 should come out for XP, and not Vista, and not just "Vista sucks, xp is better, no one wants vista" none of that. they're/they've made H2V for Windows Vista because they know that if a computer has Vista on it, then it has a good chance of running Halo 2 at it's low, XP has been out for years. With in 3 days, I've used computers that was made back when I was in grade school, that run XP, I've used a computer for a few months that had XP on it, and was made for XP, but it couldn't even run Halo 1.

#2 Don't go posting threads like this, there are a few more like this, one of them has been locked by a mod already, reposting this kind of things just asking for a flame war.

#3 if you don't want to buy Vista, then don't, if you really want to play Halo 2, then go buy an Xbox and play it, same game, just less gfxs, custom maps, and ded servers, but none the less, it's the same thing.

#4 H2V comes out next week, Halo 2 Vista is made to run on geuss what, Vista, there is no time to stop, and reprogram every thing so it works on an OS that's old, and is in need of replacing. Me, I'm getting sick and tired of XP, same blah every time I look, WMP is the only thing that reallys makes my day, and that's because I can chance the color of it If I feel like, and I don't have 3 or 4 colors to pick from.
