You say tomato; I say potato.

I thought it was going to literally be firends and family. (Ex-employees and the like.)

I'm not gonna bother worrying about it (I already have Crapdown), although it would be interesting to see what they count as 'requirements.' I just hope the members that do get selected don't let it go to their heads, and the members who don't get selected don't turn it into a 'I deserved more!' thing, even though that appears to have already started. : /

The wording Bungie choose was really misleading. They way I see it, there are actually two early Betas.

* The Friends and Family Beta that they send out to, you guessed it, their friends and Family.
* The Community Beta, which is sent out by PM's to good community members.

That's they way I see it, hope that clears it up a little. I was confused as well originally and had to read the update a few more times.

Yeah but their had to be a way that they measured devotion and interaction, I don't think the mods just picked their favorite posters.

We didn't pick anything. Bungie did.

I guess the number of posts and groups activeness matters alot... Even though I often read I don't always reply and therefore it might bemining my chances out.

Yeah , same here. I read a LOT of forums, especially in the Halo 3 section. But I usually never reply... and I have been a member for like... a year I think, or close to.

I imagine it's so many posts in such and such length of time. It could possibly be 'age' of profile as well.

ohh but i bet you wanted to didnt ya?

Yeah, I'm sure there are a few peolple the mods would have loved to veto.

We have no idea who has been picked. We do not get to veto anything. Bungie employees did the selections. Moderators (except stosh) are a hand picked group of members who volunteer their time to uphold the rules of the forums.

If I did have a say in the whole matter their would be only one member I would pick to make sure they got into the beta. Alas he cannot play due to circumstances out of his control, but non the less I feel he deserves it.

Personally, if you need to ask what it takes to be selected, you shouldn't be selected. It's like asking to me a moderator, those that want it the most, would probably be the worst for the job.

I disagree, because it a game. A game you get to play for 4 weeks. Not a forum where your decisions can have a major affect on what others do. A ban button doesn't come with a early beta invite. The way I look at it is this. Its called "Friends and Family" program. If you have to ask bungie if your friends with them, then your not. But if you know bungie as like a friend, then you just hope they feel the same about you.

Yeah, here's who I see getting in:
Pillage
Flamechu
Watermelon King
Logical Thinking
Blue Jaguar

Everyone else will have to wait till the 16th!! Those are the only ones worthy enough to make it...sorry :(

This will be interesting.

The criteria depends on how many people they're picking. Perhaps they eliminate people who have been blacklisted before, and who have had warnings. A linkable tag is a must I would believe. Then maybe the number of posts and maybe join date as a tiebreaker of a sort.

I do believe that was the way they chose people.

And I guarantee it's not on hours logged in, because then i would be chosen because well, I don't actually log out, and if I do, it's only for a few minutes.

See everyone there on the 16th hopefully.

If you just quote some mods and type "LOL!" after their posts then I'm sure they'll put a good word in for you. There was probably a vote over at the moderator only group now that groups are back.

I highly doubt the moderators had ANYTHING to do with this.

This is just one of those things of which I hope we never learn the exact criteria which was needed to get chosen. Congrats to whoever gets in this way. :)

Quite so. We weren't involved.

If the mods have had any control over the situation, I wouldn't have been checking my emails every single day in the hope for an invite myself.

The moderators are involved! It's a conspiracy! Pezza communicates to me through the fillings in my teeth!

>_> I gotta get outta here!

Seriously though, I almost don't want to know what the criteria is/was. It'll be like a nice surprise, or a lump of coal. If Achronos is like Santa...does that mean the mods are like elves and not oompa loompas? My world has just been rocked.

Hmm. Honestly, I wouldn't make a big deal about Friends and Family. It's only around 6 days earlier (from what limited knowledge I have of it), and unless you spend your life on b.net, or know people, then it's safe to say you probably won't get in.

From what I understand, Bungie picked a bunch of regulars who stood out from the rest. Post count would probably be a small factor in this. As they say, quality, not quantity. I think they probably picked select few out of that group at random, to those who will get an invite.

But as I said, it's not worth making a fuss over. I think it's a good way for Bungie to give back something more to some of the regulars here, though. I'm thinking it wasn't that hard to choose the members who stood out, judging from most of the users on the forum :P.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I don't know if I'm even getting into the Friends and Family, and neither do the other mods. To reiterate, we had absolutely nothing to do with it. It was all left up to Achronos and Sawnose, and a few other Bungie employees. We weren't even asked who we'd recommend for it. As with everyone else, everything that we know about the beta we learned from reading the Weekly Updates.

This is Bungie's thing, and we should all be happy that any of us even get the opportunity to participate in this beta, regardless of whether or not we get in 5 days before the majority of people. So, thanks Bungie. I appreciate the extra effort you put into this. You guys don't even get any thing out of it really. Its just Bungie being as nice as they can be really. Even if I don't get in the F&F portion (I don't think I'm entitled to anything special, and I would never expect any special treatment from anyone) I still appreciate the opportunity.

Hmm, that sounded like some serious ass-kissing now that I'm proof reading it. I should temper it with some vitriol. Umm...

BUNGIE SUXXORZ! YOU JERKZ DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO MAKE GAMES DO YOU?!?! ME AND MY HIGH SCHOOL FRIENDS COULD MAKE A BETTER GAME IN OUR SLEEP! WE RULE; U SUX! US US US US US US US US > U U U U U U U U U U U!

That was harder than I thought it would be. I now have a new found respect for all the whiny complainers this board seems to attract.

It would be kinda nice if moderators did get invites :P.

The Friends and Family program comes with more bragging rights, really. And oh what great rights they are. It's safe to say I'm sure you would know if you are in the F&F Program, even if you didn't receive an email yet. Just ask yourself if you're friends with a Bungie employee who has a 'friends and family' list, if not, then I would go for Crackdown ;P.

Why wouldn't the moderators have had anything to do with it? The moderators are Bungie's official representatives on the forums, of course they helped select the members from the forums. It's common sense.

The moderators are not official, in any way shape or form. No one has ever claimed them to be.

They are community members picked to uphold the rules on the forums out of their own freely given time. Personally, i think they deserve an invite each, just for the amount of time they pile into the forums.

I also think we shouldnt have been told that they'd already been picked, just for the lulz in seeing the Halo 3 forum members suddenly all start using grammar and being polite.

edit: or for the lulz seeing them flaming each other about who's the worthier beta candidate XD.
