when you look at the stats on bungie.net, there is a bunch of stuff that is fancy, like showing the pic of the weapon you used to get most of your kills etc.
but when you click on game veiwer it is somewhat boring

so what if bungie made a program where the game is recording while you play and then when the game is done, you can go to bungie.net click on the game you played check your stats then when you go to game veiwer, you can watch the whole game that you played on video, and show highlights of each player and the kills they got

wouldnt that be cool

and it would work for halo 3 too

Good idea, but I shudder to think of how much stored dataz that would require...

ehh I dont think thats gonna happen bud.. but would be cool, so you wouldnt have to capture yourself for a montage.

  • 05.06.2007 2:42 PM PDT

wont work, the replays are only viewable in the game engine, which you dont/probably cant get on your computer.

It's not going to happen because it's pretty much impossible. Video take a whole lot of storage, so if every single live game played was stored on Bungie's own servers, there simply would not be enough space. It would mean every game from a short quitting game to a custom game that you left on pause and forgot about for days would be recorded. It simply CANNOT work. This is why in Halo 3 they are going to have that feature built into the game, so you yourself can record whatever game you like and view it whenever you want.

I wonder how many terrabytes of storage they'll need for all of those games...

I don't think they could put it on Bungie.net but maybe on the actual system itself..

It is a cool idea. I think it could work if the games were stored locally on the XBOX 360 and they streamed the game from the persons XBOX. It would mean that the XBOX would have to be on and the person would have to allow a connection from XBOX live through their firewall... but it could work.

I'm taking a wild guess and saying around...9-10 million.

wouldn't that be a petabyte?

It will never happen. The storage space needed would be huge. Have you ever put digital video or compressed video on a computer. Bye bye hard drive. Don't get me wrong it would be sweet, just not possible.

Not so sure.... Storage just gets exponentially cheaper... and if they distribute the video by storing it on individual's hard drives it could happen. Also... let's not forget that in order to play a game we are not sending video back and forth over XBOX live. We are sending data packets and the game engine interprets those packages to display the game.

What if they just captured the game data then replayed the game.

Even though at first this seems like a nearly impossible task the more I think about it the more I think this could be done... maybe not every game but something like the last 20 or 20 rotating games... Something....

Yes... it doesn't have room to store them as video's... but if it stored the game data and then had some kind of real time rendering engine that essentially just replayed the game with the data it has about that game... I don't know how possible that is... It sounds possible to me though.

well it could work because storge does get cheaper and bungie could find a way to do it

Halo 3 will have the capability to store your own games locally... what we're talking about here is the ability to look up someone's gamer tag... and then choose one of the games they've played in... then watch the game as that person saw it.

I don't know of any plans to do that with Halo 3... but what we're saying is how cool it would be... and we think it's entirely possible to do technically.

It's going to happen in halo 3... although it will take up VERY LITTLE space because it won't store actual gameplay footage, but rather the movements and physics motions in the game. I read that in an article...
