Ah, look at the lonely people...

Yeah. I was just thinking. People complain about spoilers all the time, should we have a spoiler tag which makes the text hidden in some manner?

Go ahead, burn me at the stake with "no, that's stupid" and "it'd be abused by the idiots" posts. I'm ready. :D

2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

O_o How would idiots abuse this?

Yes. Spoilers tag is a MUST.

:O

How would it work, though? hide the text in a click-to-show-contents box or make the text the same as the background so you have to highlight it? I dunno.

The "Click to Show" Box is on lots of other forums.. Of course, I don't see what's so bad about having a "Spoiler" tag infront of thread titles, except it could get somewhat annoying.. :\

For example, you would create a post or thread and checkmark "Contains Spoilers" or something?

Maybe just make it a user option to click while making a thread to show a warning next to it or something. Some would probably not click it just to be that way but a lot of people would i think, i would. If people dont wanna know then i wont tell them but i know if i find something out i HAVE to talk to it with people haha.

Whoops, he just said that while i was writing this haha. sorry.

I'm not that active, but never dead.

I think a better question would be:
Would anyone actually use it?

That is the question, now, isn't it?

Oh.. you're referring to a markup tag for spoilers. I thought you were asking if there a rule about spoilers. The markup thing would be a good idea if they had a rule about abusing it and a rule that all spoilers must be contained in the tag. I, personally, hate spoilers so I'm totally behind this idea. It could be a markup tag that changes any text to the background color of the forum so you need to highlight to read it.

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

I really can see people overusing it. Even though it would be kind of nice, it's unneccessary, considering anything you could spoil will be public in a few months.

I work here: Sound Devices, LLC. We make bad-ass field audio gear, and you think that's awesome. My messy desk (With work-related items on the computer screen).

One does not simply grenade jump into Mordor...

Or the moderators could mark things as spoiler content, and then the option to see spoilers could be a setting in your user profile, so all spoilers are hidden if you choose them to be. That's how they do it at HBO.

^ What if someone sees the spoilers before the mods get to them?

What if the mods don't even want to see the spoilers?

Oh well... Spoilers aren't such a big deal that there should be a "realtime" solution.

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

or..

People could just show a little self-constraint and not read in the Halo 3 Forums until they finish the campaign. If you trust people enough that you dont think they will spoil things, then your sense of trust is lacking. If you think the moderators will have enough time to read every single thread to check for spoilers, then your judgement on how much free time the mods have on thier hands is lacking.

You are your only defense against spoilers.

I think it's common courtesy for people to warn you of spoilers in their post before they make the post. That way you can just skip past that post, or not read the thread at all.

The problem with a designated spoiler tag is that people will deliberately ignore it just so they can ruin something for you...cause it's funny.

Dumbledore dies.

See, something like that? No warning, and an obvious attempt at shocking the other readers or infuriating them. (By the way, if you didn't know that by now...you should probably go back to whatever planet you've been living on for the past two years and stay there.)

Ya, that's what I said when my friend ruined it for me too. The Jerk.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

I would like spoiler tags, and I think enough people would use them to make them worthwhile to implement.

There is a simple method to stop people from abusing them: blacklist a user until he stops.

Actually, I honestly don't care. Harry Potter is for kiddies.

I think a simple rule to mark all threads with spoiler discussion with *SPOILERS* would solve this problem.
Ignoring the rule would result in a 7-day ban. On the spot, no questions asked. This would have the triple benefits of punishing the offender and hiding the OP's posts, while still allowing the mods to attach a *SPOILERS* tag to the title.

$x='print chr(36),"x=",chr(39),$x,chr(39),";\n",$x; ';
print chr(36),"x=",chr(39),$x,chr(39),";\n",$x;

I work at Microsoft. I have nothing to do with Halo and nothing I say is "the official word".

It's a decent idea, probably won't happen though. But they definitely would get used.

They kind of are. I'd like to see someone ruin the ending for one of your favorite movies or games and then see you say it isn't a big deal. I like to be surprised, so I want spoiler protection as much as possible.

',:\ IF YA SAHMELLLL
Snape kills Dumbledore[/spoilers].

Couldn't resist. But really I see no real need for it, personally. But then again many groups and the flood would love to have such a feature.

Here's a quick example I wrote- it's basic HTML, and it even matches the bungie color scheme! I've also tested it with opera, firefox, and internet explorer, and it works with all 3

*** Link ***

It would work like this:
Spoiler Text
This can also be adapted easily to where you would click in the box to make text appear.

I think that this kind of feature would actually be used all the time as it makes it much easier for people who don't want to see spoilers to avoid them.

It could also make it a lot easier for people to hide spam and rude stuff they don't want the mods to see (i.e. they shove some really rude comment on the end of their post as a spoiler so it's the same colour.)

Nah, that's just me being negative. I wouldn't mind a thing like this, but I doubt most people would use it (and then we'd have to go around and FORCE people to use it, in turn reading all the spoilers we don't want to read).
