The delay is confirmed...I work for Best Buy, and in our 'Retail Weekly' news update there is a section stating:
IMPORTANT:
Video Game Release: Halo 2 PC Vista
Original Scheduled Release Date: Tuesday, May 8, 2007
New Release Date: May 22, 2007
**ALL STORES THAT RECIEVE THIS TITLE BEFORE MAY 22, 2007 ARE TO NOT PUT IT OUT ON SHELVES, BUT TO KEEP IT IN LOCK UP UNTIL THIS DAY.
This seems really fishy. My number one question is why would you keep it in "lockup" if bungie intends to update the install systems and add various other patches. In order for this to occur, all stores would have to cancel the deadline, and return all of the game copies back to bungie. This is EXACTLY what happened to bungie's myth, where there was a weird install bug, where when you uninstalled the game, the directory that it was installed on was erased. For example, if you installed the game on the C drive, the C drive was wiped. the game was delayed for weeks, and cost bungie millions. They caught this error mid-shipment, and all the games came back.
This does not appear to be what bungie has in mind. There is no reason to just lockup the game until the 22nd. I don't see how this would ever happen.
