Hello everyone! I know this post might not directly pertain to Halo 2, but I figured this would be a great place to get answers, seeing as some of the people here actually have experience in this! Ok, I am currently in 11th grade at my High School, and am seriously considering pursuing a career in Video Game Programming/Design. Now I realize that there are prolly thousands of other kids out there with the same hopes, but do they have the determination? Well I do. I have talked with many video game programmers and realize what it entails, all the late nights and long hours, but I still believe it is the greatest job ever. I have even said that Halo 2 will be the last game I purchase this year, to set aside time to learn more programming languages and gain experience with modding. (Plus, what other game do I need besides Halo 2? =D) Well, my question is more about what college experience is needed to be a video game programmer. I have seen ads for colleges specifically geared towards video game design/programming; do these get you a bigger chance to get into the industry? Do they offer more internship? Or should I go to a regular college, with 4 years and all, and major in programming? I am worried that if I do that, I will get stuck at a gov. programming job for some company like Boeing, which I DO NOT want. If any of you reading this have any experience in video game design/production/programming/ect. it would be great if you could say how you got your job, such as what degree you got from where, and where you gained experience (i have heard this is a MAJOR factor in landing a video game design/programming job). Well, I guess that is about the extent of my post. I hope some of you will be able to help me, for right now I see my life at a cross roads, which will determine my future. Well, bye!
(O and Bungie, Halo 2 is amazing; GREAT JOB!)
