And for how long? Will this game have staying power, or will it fall by the wayside like the first one? IMO, I fully expect to see a few thousand players from the start, However I'm a bit concerned about what will happen to these numbers when they release Halo 3 for the 360. With that said, I think this game has the potential to keep a large community over an extended period of time, because of the custom maps, and weapons many of you will be making. What are your expectations?

Nope.
Edit:

I was thinking..... If Windows Vista becomes cheaper then more and more people will buy Halo 2 Vista because its better looking and more "Stable"
(Less Laggy). And there will be Custom maps and CustomGame finders. BUT when Halo 3 comes out I'm almost sure that not only the PC version but the Xbox version to will become deserted and old news.

I wouldn't expect anymore than 1500, mainly because it's Vista only, and Halo 3 Beta will be out during launch.

That's a lower figure than the prime time HPC player figures (roughly 2000). I'd laugh if HPC had more players.

Yes. Look how many new people have come to this forum for H2V recently, and it isn't even out yet.

Acting like pre and post pubescent idiots who feel confident behind Internet anonymity? Even though it's applicable to the majority of our members, we ask that they not do that here.

I really don't think that Vista's cost is a major factor. I have a legit copy of Vista from my father who gets packages from MSDN once in a while. But don't be in denial, there are people that will steal Vista just to get H2V.

You mean the new people who come here to whine that Halo 2 isn't on any other operating system than Windows Vista?

Due to Halo 2 Vista being an Operating Specific game and having pretty high rec system requirements--I'm guessing this game will only pull in a few hundred the week of release.

500+ would be my guess.

This game has really flown under the radar and due to the Live Restrictions, Vista only, 3 year old port--it wouldn't be shocking to expect a low outcome.

I hope I'm wrong.

About Halo PC still pulling 2000+ a night, the main reason to that is because of it's insanely low system requirements in the now.

Geforce GTX 260 Core 216 650/1100

as someone may have said already (i didnt read all the posts) dont expect alot of people at start. (duh!) we will get more people as time passes. im guessing around 5000 people because not only is this game meant for the PC Community but its meant for those Xbox gamers who want to migrate to the PC for those 2 new maps and controller support ;)

And a good number of those people will eventually make their way over to Vista.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

You know that the map maker has a large base of fans but it might not keep the momentum because you must download their map before you can play it, of course.

Thats pretty painless. This game automatically downloads and installs the map file to your computer while booting up the server.

The few, the proud, the leet.

H2V.net already has close to a thousand registered users. Worrying about a future title's release pulling away from an active title's userbase is rediculous. People dont just play one game. The release of Halo 2 didn't hurt CE. In fact, it drew more players.

I want to map for Halo 2 really really bad, but there's no way I'm ever touching Vista.

  • 05.09.2007 8:49 PM PDT

I'm pretty sure they'll be at least 1,684 players just for a guess :P

Yes, there is still Halo wars, and possibly other things.

When I say I want to map for it really bad, I mean really really really really really really really really bad.
I'm just now understanding 3DS and XSI (Maya's close behind), I have a background in fine-art (draw/paint) and Photoshop (make my own materials for Valve's Source and UnrealEngine2), and am Majoring in Illustration and Graphics design. I want to map to get into the freaking game industry. To make a portfolio. But I am not touching Vista.

Dammit Microsoft.
