I love it. Brilliant... absolutely brilliant.

Yes, yes. I was one of the ones who complained. Complained bitterly.

Not because I can't afford $4 - I can.

Not because people need to be paid for work. I have no problem with that. Someone offers me something, I decide whether I want it, then I buy it if it's worthwhile. They get paid if their work is worth paying money for. That's the modern world.

But if someone forces me to pay something, I have a problem. Microsoft owns Bungie. They set the price on these maps. They decided it would be a one-off tax on the Halo 2 population, killing all the worthwhile playlists to force us to cough up to fill their coffers - which are already overflowing. Don't tell me Halo isn't massively in profit already. THEY DIDN'T NEED THIS MONEY. IT WAS MOTIVATED BY GREED.

But they've taxed their tax. You suckers have paid. They got you.

Not me. I didn't pay.

I'm taking a few months off Halo 2. I'm gonna play a bit of Guitar Hero, gonna finish off those last Crackdown missions. Gonna go out to some bars, see some shows, download some TV.

Gonna love that Halo 3 beta.

And come July I'm gonna download those new maps. For free. Like they should have been in the first place, if they weren't an optional download.

And you people who paid $4? You're gonna tell me I'm a -blam!-. You're gonna tell me I should have smiled as I paid my dues, just grateful that they deigned to let us keep playing a game we paid for, on a service we keep paying for, for such a small amount of money.

And I would have got a whole two months extra play on two crappy maps out of 20-odd. Woo-effing-hoo.

Enjoy, people. See you in 8 weeks time.

I hope for your sake playing halo 2 doesn't preclude you from doing this stuff anyway. It sure never stopped me.

And you do know the maps will be free in July right?

I am fine with paying $2 a piece for 2 maps. In the real world everything isn't free. And when you get those maps in july for free. Watch you get pwned for months. Cause that is what is going to happen. Just like it most likely does right now.

Hey the new gears maps are $2.50 a piece. And also, does certain affinity work for free? Do you work for free, I sure hope not. Nothing in this world is 'free' even if it says it is. The price is rolled in there somewhere.

Hey fuzzynip you like OWNING people don't you. You want to OWN me. See you in July. You can OWN me then. You'll love it. I'll be your gimp xx

And Fort Sump: yep, the price has been rolled in there. By you suckers who paid. Who sent a message that Microsoft can use Xbox Live to tax us whenever they like. Nice work.

I'm not familiar with the new Gears of War maps. Was that an optional download, or did they cripple the product for the non-downloaders, like with Halo 2? That's my beef. As I said in the original post, I have no problem with being asked to buy a product. If it's a good one, I'll buy it, and Certain Affinity will get paid what they deserve. But if I'm forced to pay? That just encourages sub-standard work. Because if they can force you to pay, they don't need to make it a ''must buy because it's so good'' kind of product.

For the long-term health of Xbox Live, and to get the best enjoyment out of these games we play, we have to insist that we only pay for what is worth buying. Which means that EVERY download must be TRULY optional.

Ok, what's so different from paying for maps when people do it fo GoW, or for songs for GH.

If you don't want to pay, then don't.

Do what you're doing, do something else.

But why go off on a rant -blam!-ing about having to pay, or people paying for that matter? Bungie/Microsoft is a corporation. Their job is to make money. They had to pay to get these maps done, why not charge?

I don't like to pay, but I did. I'm not gonna -blam!- about it.

Who cares what you are deciding to do? This post doesn't make anyone remotely care that they spent $4 on maps.

DarkenedLies: The difference with this download to the ones you mentioned is the nature of an OPTIONAL download. Which is all the difference in the world. Read my posts above.

Anyway.

I'll see you in July

It's the same as all the other 360 games, like GRAW, R6 etc. They're totally optional, but you can't play with most of the people online because they DID get them.

Certain affinity charged your credit card, did they? Certain Affinity put the maps onto the Xbox live network, did they? Cetain Affinity didn’t make the game, didn’t make the xbox, don’t run halo 2’s online service, and don’t run xbox live. They were hired to create the maps. Don’t you children understand anything before shooting your little mouths off with flaming?

It's funny because I don't play anymore.

Who forced you to do something? You can't play Double Team, Hardcore, Training, or Big Team? The maps aren't in those matchmaking playlists, and believe it or not you can play custom games that don't involve those two maps. That makes it an optional download.

Dang, they got me. They got my $4, and my morals, and my values. I feel so violated.

  • 05.10.2007 8:22 AM PDT

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

Was it greed, or was it the fact that these guys put in work and effort and need to get paid? Anyway, free is awesome so w00t to that.

I paid the $4. Not an issue. I echo the sentiment of an earlier poster. Why do you care. I'd only be a sucker if I hadn't freely chosen to make the purchase. I wanted to play on the new maps, it costs $4 for now, I decided to pay. It makes me a customer, not a sucker.

You however need to go get some blood work done. Clearly your meds are not at the proper dosage levels. Relax man.

I am going to say this is the appropriate answer, if you don't like it, don't do it. period. don't -blam!-, don't complain, just don't do it. This guy got it right. I think it is worth it so i paid the 4 dollars. But he doesn't. congratulations on not being an idiot.

RCG: In ur base, steelin' ur flagz. | Watch the demo, then join the carnage!

One, small, tiny question.

You're off to play Crackdown, and you're gonna love the Halo 3 Beta? I do hope you didn't buy a $60 dollar game for a Beta invite... Way to stick it to 'em. =P

Anyway, the maps were going to be free anyway, just like all the rest before. Well done for saving yourself $4, I guess...

Well, I find it funny that you throw a fit for $4, it cost money to pay CA and their employees to make the maps, it's not like the shat them out of thin air and poof, we had our maps.. in the grown up world, there's bills that have to be paid.. just cause they sell 50 billion copies of Halo2, doesn't mean they pocket 50 billion dollars, you have to look at all the little things, from production, marketing, employees, .. HALO3... without all those copies bein sold.. there wouldn't have been a halo3, or at least, there wouldn't have been one the way we're gonna get it.. cause Halo2 sold soo well, they were able to put more money and faith into Halo 3.. that's where the money goes..

there's all sorts of butgets out there that have to be maintained.. the fact that they'll be available in July says one thing to me.. they had a set number of maps in mind that's they'd have to sell before making the money they needed so that they could give them up for free... after that number was/is hit.. then there's no need to continue to charge people.. so I'm guessing that they're predicting that by July, they would have made the money that they needed too..

If they were evil money hungry ninjas.. they would have continued to charge the little people all the way till Nov... right??? But they're not, only for 3ish little months...

Lastly, I find it funny, you complain about spending those four little dollars.. but lets look at your little list up there...

Crackdown($60 to microsoft)
Download some TV(through your 360??? more $$ to Microsoft.)

evil.. evil Bungie  have fun in your time off, you wont be missed, seeing you're taking time off, you should take time off from the boards too.. now if all the complainers just did that.. then I'd be in heaven...
