Halo:CE is as close to a perfect shooter as you may ever see in your lifetime.

Another one of these, my answer is Halo 2. No offense to anyone here but Halo 2 > Halo 1. The graphics were better, the AI, the vehicles, the amount of sick weapons, the multiplayer, legendary was more of a challenge, and lets not forget the new features like dual-wielding and boarding

HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED had a better story and feel to it
HALO 2 had a more humerous feel to it which was good to unwind from hours of HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED

Don't be hating dude, you know most of that is true. I may be wrong about the weapons (that Halo 1 pistol was sick!) and even the mutiplayer (cheaters, you know), but the graphics, AI, and legendary were all better in Halo 2. Lets not forget new abilites in Halo 2.

i agree with all of this plus you can finally blow up vehicles unlike in the 1st halo no one could get a shot off on the warthog or ghost untill the locking on feature in Halo 2. multiplyer in halo 2 WAY BETTER. ITS ONLINE!!!!!

What are you talking about? Learn to throw a grenade or aim a rocket. Ghosts and warthogs are fairly easy to deal with on foot in Halo 1. 1 grenade toss = a flipped over ghost or hog. There was no more satisfaction than flipping a hog with a grenade, and then pistoling all of the occupants.

Tank was slightly more difficult on foot, but tanks were freaking no match for a ghost or a good sniper. Even the best tank driver could be worked by two guys with grenades and pistols.

The rocket launcher worked fine against vehicles without the lock-on feature.

Bungie could have saved their time and taken all the vehicles out of the multiplayer games, since that seems to be their intent with Halo 2 and Halo 3.

The vehicle implementation in Halo 1 is what made it unique, compared to all of the other 1st person shooters. Bungie has abandoned what made Halo 1 unique and, unfortunately, Halo 2 may as well be Unreal or Duke Nukem...

I loved the cmt version of halo 1 campaign. IT WAS SO GREAT. It had a brilliant looking battle rifle /w grenade launcher, assult rifle, different halo pistol models (still as the original), new textures (the halo level and library were extremely different), smg and sniper rifle /w silencer. Itw as brilliant

But the halo 2 campaign was so much more action packed and fun to play. Alot more fun to play that halo 1. The music and the way it fitted together was fantastic. I just wished it wasnt so short. The weapons in halo 2 were lame. The only real oneS that i liked was battle rifle and shotgun. The energy sword was an utter waste of time... the most annoying weapon for noobs ever...

Why do so many people like Halo CE over Halo 2? Here's my reasons:

1) Narrative, tensions and execution of the story was absolutely gripping
2) No reliance on dual wielding in multiplayer - meant that each encounter was a one on one dual - good to see a return in Halo 3
3) Multiplayer was excellent - shame no online play.
4) Much fewer corridor missions versus Halo 2 (felt much more free
5) There were some absolutely mind blowing moments: Landing on Halo for the first time, flying over the sea to execute a beach incursion when searching for the library, and the assault on the control room. Halo 2 just didn't quite match it.

Forget the graphics - Halo CE was far superior IMO

Halo 2 is better. Halo 1 maps sucked because they were pretty much all the same, they were all the same color, no textures. Halo 2 maps are 100% different from each other.
I do miss the CE Pistol and the Assault Rifle. I found the pistok in tombstone (you cant use it), I liked the flashlight in multiplayer. Halo 2 you can dual wield, there are alot more weapons.

in Halo 1 you could only drive the warthog, scorpian tank, ghost, and banshee. In Halo 2 you can drive the Scorpian Tank, banshee, ghost, warthog, gauss warthog, spectre, wraith

the ghost looks better in H2

Player creation sucked in Halo 1 with the 1 color option

So halo 2 is better for all the superficial, unimportant stuff? Not really.

It's stupid to pin the descripition of superficial to any aspect of a game, moron. It's the "superficial" crap that makes it fun. H2 was marginally better because it expanded on all the things that make CE great. Story. Multiplayer. Weapons. The pistol was cheap no matter what you say. It took no skill whatsoever. Leading is a sinch and it only took three shots to down a person. The BR took four not to mention those four shots were spread out over twelve individual bullets. More room for missing? I think so! Stick me in the middle of BG with a pistol, I'll take on the whole enemy team. Stick me in Coag with a BR, I'll be fortunate to get two or three kills. H2 is just so much more dynamic than CE. It accentuates the "rock, paper, scissors" theory (Ghost owns BR, Rocket owns ghost, Sniper owns Rocket, BR owns Sniper) making more a more interesting game. In CE you start out with the best weapon in the game! aside for the Snper rifle what is the use of all the other guns if your initial weapon can trump them all?

Halo 1 had a better storymode.
But Halo 2 had a better multiplayer.

Halo: CE > > Halo 3 > Halo: Reach = Halo 2

Halo CE > Halo 1 > Halo 3 Beta > Halo 2

Agreed 100%

Halo 2's vehicles were a joke in MP. Using them and fighting against vehicles in halo 1 was a blast and required skills. I loved being able to snipe people out of the tank in halo 1. Halo 2's tank on the other hand was a joke and not fun to use; no sniping people out of them and gernades have no affect against them. The whole boarding vehicles was a novel idea, but boring as hell to use.

You ARE wrong about the weapons - all of the new weapons were not 'sick'. BR and carbine were good, but ALL the duals are worthless, innaccurate spray weapons, the shotgun shot foam pellets, the pistol was pointless - what gun can't kill another player with whole clip?! - the sentinal beam was interesting, but weak and pointless. The beam rifle and sword were good additions, but the sword pissed off more people than it pleased.

The graphics were more advanced, we got higher levels of detail and interesting light effects, but they were also muddy, glitchy and unpolished compared to Halo's. The environments were all smaller, the mission paths more linear, with less enemies on screen at any time. The AI? The AI is better in halo 2 how? It isn't really better. Elites jump from behind cover onto boxes whenever they get near one, even if it means their certain death, the Flood was now a Trickle, and the brutes were just aggressive damage sponges. Little improvement there. Dual wielding offered novelty at the expense of substance - it impacted the whole weapon system for the worse. Sure, now you can play around with different gun combinations - but the trade-off is those guns are half as powerful as they were before. So, while good for some variety, overall it did not make the game better.

Legendary was more of a challenge - let's say that legendary was more difficult. More difficult does not mean better. Legendary mode was less a test of skill, and more a test of memorizing enemy spawns, hoarding the noob combo, persistence and luck. In halo 1 leg., you could play like rambo if you had the skill. In halo 2 leg, no matter how skilled you are you are limited in what you can do. There's rewarding challenge, and there's frustrating challenge.

The whole campaign was inferior to halo 1s campaign. Some people point to the story having more layers, which is very true, but I don't remember that enhancing the gameplay at all.

Boarding - great.

You see, overall, halo 2 is a great game (don't get me wrong, I love it) but it really didn't carry on some of the best things started by it's predecessor. It could have been better. Thank god for the absolutely incredible multiplayer interface, which could NOT have been better. So when we compare halo 1 and 2, you have to consider that for a game that was a whole 3 years newer, it didn't bring a lot to the table besides the great XBL interface and replacing the problems of the first with it's own. The core values were not so hot, especially when you appreciate what made the first one good.

Thats the thing. Halo2 is better IMOIMOIMOIMOIMO, but the difference is so slight that we are arguing here. Halo2 should have flushed Halo1, but that didnt happen, i sure hope Halo3 does everything perferctly so i will only play Halo1 and 2 if i want to memorize story.

If Halo 2 was really better than Halo 1, no one would play the orginal. Too bad thats not the case.

The only thing halo 2 has up on halo 1 is the fact that its on xbox live and has more options. But that doesn't detract from halo 1, its just a product of a different time period. I'm damn sure halo 1 would be online if it came out a few months later when xbox live was established.

Either way, I have yet to hear a good argument about how halo 2 is better. Please enlighten me.

I have to disagree with you.

RL King brought up some good points. Halo 2 had many things that were improved and/ or added that made the experience better. Sure, There were problems with it, but it really brought out core gameplay. Everybody considers Halo 2 a bad game because of the storyline. The game wasn't bad, It was just the mixed storyline and ending.

I think Halo 1 does win over Halo 2, and is a much better game, but I think Halo 2 was a great game also.

Reasons why Halo2 is better than Halo are 1) most physics and 2) hard to understand but storyline. Halo1 story is same "oh no aliens, have no fear chief is here, rescue crew, we can win, oh no zombies, oh no computer, oh no zombies take over, savior leaves" stuff that didnt give me any expectations and if gameplay werent that great i wouldnt have even played it. Halo2 brings fight near home but we still have chances, Arbiter introduces Covenant and gives me one more reason to love elites, grunts and hunters and hate others, Zombies are back but now they are real threat when they can go anywhere, Mainenemy home is destroyed and everything is left on earth, but thats not the end. Much better and twisting.

Compare story to Matrix
1. Introduced new hero who doesnt know much about anything but gains more and more honor.
2. Heroes side is winning but a small change makes world very unstable and world gets smaller. (Smith=Flood)
3. Hero does anything he can and saves others but dies himself (I surely hope this is not the case with Halo)

Matrix 1 is said and reviewed to be the best movie and brings new ideas, i dont like this much though
Matrix 2 is said to be worse and doesnt bring new, I like this
Matrix 3 is said to be the worst and brings little new, I like this too.

HaloCE is good game in anyway, good story, good Ai, good weapons, good levels and some great moments, I cant think any faults of HaloCE, that arent just opinions, its just a good game.

Halo2 just was too much for Xbox. Everything that was bad in Halo2 was because technics, good graphics but big loading problems, Ai freezes and no much new things or surprises, game is almost only driving and destroying Ghosts because so many things were left out of Halo2, everything else could be fixed with polishing and checking, i dont think Bungie intentions were to have this game after HaloCE. I can look past these problems and its great game. I blame Xbox and hope Xbox360 gives Bungie chance to make game that they want.

 • 06.10.2007 3:06 AM PDT

Please Bungie, redeem yourself w/ Reach.
Halo 2 and 3 both stink out loud.
In the immortal words of Mr Horse: Halo 2? No sir, didn't like it.

No comparison. H:CE blows away H2. In every way. And I disagree with the OP, the H2 multiplayer sucked rocks. Big time...

i agree with you that the pistol being so powerful made it so most other weapons were rarely used against it. But there really weren't that many weapons to begin with. Seeing as how the human set of weapons were the most useful, you can just throw the covenant crap out. That leaves you with the pistol, shotty, AR and sniper. If you were playing on a big map. snipers and pistols dominated. The pistol could be used well on every map, but on smaller maps the shotty and even the AR were effective. But having a weapon that EVERYONE starts with that is so versatile is the most fair and balanced way to play. Halo 2 was too weapon dependant. When the game depends that much on weapons it really robs itself of the fun and spontaneity it's attempting to create. So in halo ce when everyone intially spawns at the start of a ctf match, they run for the flag. In halo 2 everyone spawns and rushes for weaponary. In halo ce every face to face battle was FAIR. Not to say there aren't some battles in halo 2 that are fair. But how fair is a water pistol vs. a nuclear warhead? My friends don't even like campaign, but i do. I have to say that halo 2's campaign looked bleak next to halo ce's. Who the hell wants to play as an alien. This is about masterchief here, i have no loyalty or feel a connection with the arbiter. While i disliked the actual gameplay, the online features for halo 2 were absolutely EXCELLENT. For the making of halo 2, halo ce should have been improved upon. Instead, an entirely new game was created that was inferior to halo ce. For halo 3... NOW we decide to improve upon halo 2 and not make an entirely new game again.
