Yes you payed $50 when it came out, and you payed for the live service, and although they are not required to give you new content for free, you shouldn't restrict the access of everyone just because they don't want to pay to play the same games they have been used to playing.

I think it is unfair how people already pay roughly $50.00 a year for a subscription to Xbox Live. Halo 2 was created where people could play on Xbox Live. Now they are restricting the matchmaking playlist on Xbox Live, unless you purchase the new maps. Sounds like a monopoly to me. Also sounds like a lawsuit. It really makes me want to cancel my Xbox Live subscription because I'm having to pay more to play on Xbox Live when I have already paid to have the access.
You didn't pay 50$ to have a right to play matchmaking, you payed 50$ to have a right to play halo 2 on xbox live with whatever they give you. So stop whining.

Well I paid $50 for a years subscription to play halo 2 on xbox live...since thats really the only game I play on xbox live. If I couldn't play halo 2 on xbox live then I wouldn't have bought the membership. Xbox live advertises that you can play Halo 2 on xbox live with other players....they don't say "you can play halo 2 on xbox live at an extra cost accordingly to bungie prices!" They only sell maps for money because they know ignorant people will be like "duuuhhhh uhh $4...thats cheap! I'll pay that!!!"

achronos has said before, you paid 50$ to play halo2 on xbox live, with whatever they give you. You should be glad they gave you the choices you have. They could just have it if you don't have the maps then too -blam!- bad you can play customs or nothing.

Defend Bungie all you want, but it was a bad move. 2 maps integrated into all of matchmaking certainly isn't worth alienating a large userbase who couldn't care less about the new maps. You've got to understand that sometimes people don't want to buy new content for games unless they plan to play that game extensively. There are a ton of h2 players who are casual players who will play lightly and play different games. Its a userbase that Made H2 widely successful and helped Bungie to achieve millions of sales. 4 dollars is nothing, but the freedom of choice is everything. I suppose the choice now is a watered down multiplayer experience or the purchase of maps that people may not want just to get the full extent of H2 multiplayer. Call it what you want, but its certainly a move that resulted in Bungie turning its back on many fans who purchased the game, possibly all the previous content, etc.

I have the new maps. Even tried redownloading them and I still get the "missing map required to play" error. Has anyone encountered this after downloading maps and fixed it. I need to know how to fix it.

you have to delete all the maps, then redownload them all.

People really need to stop whining about the maps costing money. Bungie needs to make money too. Yeah, they made tons of money when Halo 2 came out but that was 2 1/2 years ago. They haven't released anything like that since. Now that sales for Halo 2 have gone down because everyone already has it, they need a way to make more money so they can do other things aka release Halo 3. It isn't cheap to create a game. They have to purchase equipment to make the maps, characters, AI, ect. They also have to pay employees who are hard at work constructing a game that will probably outsell Halo 2. Until then, they need some way to keep them going with a comfortable amount of money. Since there is no cost to play Halo 2 on Live except subscribing to Live, which goes to Microsoft not Bungie, there is a need for a little extra cash so their products can be top of the line when they are ready to release them.

As for people who are complaining about Bungie restricting the types of games you can play in Matchmaking without the new maps, they can do what they want. It is their product. They need to get some way for people to NEED their maps. The best way they can do that is by restricting the people that don't buy them to only a few game types. In my opinion, it is a very smart thing to do so they can make money. Money is the name of the game nowadays. If you don't have it, you are unable to compete with corporations that do have it. Yeah, it might suck for the consumer to have to shell out a few extra bucks to enjoy the product they have purchased...but that is what it has come down to. Yes, Bungie might look a lot better to some people if they didn't charge for the maps or cut down playlists, but it's what they have to do to get Halo 3 out. People need to get paid. Just think of the $4 you pay to play as part of a paycheck to the employee who designed your favorite map. It's not a hard concept to grasp. Money is number one now. The company might not like it, but they have to do it in order to function.

Bungie doesn't have to have that money. I could care less about the 4 dollars, but they have one of the best selling console titles in the last few years, with momentum only picking up towards the release for Halo 3. They have more than enough money simply from the initial sales of Halo 2, and Bungies development team didn't even produce these maps (or was it a smaller team of Bungie or something? Could have sworn it was an external team). They made money from the previous maps as well. There are 4 million preorders for Halo 3 thus far, and not counting additional numbers (which it will likely sell much more) or collectors additions or legendary additions (which can easily send bungies paychecks skyrocketing), Bungie stands to make a cool 240 million dollars. Again, 240 million dollars if they only sell 4 million REGULAR edition copies of the game. At the end of the day though, Bungie will likely make more than half a billion dollars from Halo 3. But I don't have a problem with the success of the company as its well deserved.

Point is, this company is far to fortunate to resort to cheap tactics to get people to buy these maps. To severely limit the online play to those who simply don't want the maps is not good. If it were 4+ maps i'd understand, but its only two of them, and people are having issues with even downloading them at that. I don't see it as being a good trade off. They should have made new matchmaking playlists that were meant specifically for the new maps, and then integrated them into the pre-existing modes once July hits. But yeah, the 4 dollars isn't the problem, its the dirty business practice. I can almost guarantee you that you wouldn't see this same practice done in Halo 3 once the community picks up again because the uproar would be huge. With that said though, I still respect Bungie as a company and just hope that they don't ever repeat this mistake again.

You pay $50 a year to play hundreds of games. Not Halo. It's $4. You paid $50 for Halo when it came out. They are not required to give you new content for free. It is far from a monopoly. Do you know what a monopoly is?
Wow... stupid kid, I payed $60 for Halo 2... special edition, yeah you're wrong to assume how much one must pay. Also, dude, no, every Xbox Live game lets you play all game types unless in a custom match of any kind. It's in the Xbox Live statement, they won't make you pay more unless it's a "player match". Look it up if you don't believe me. Bungie's cheating and they're getting away with it for 1 of 2 reasons:

1.) They're Bungie, what's Microsoft going to do to them, and who's actually going to cancel their Live or not get Halo 3 if they're already planning on it.

or

2.) It's only been a few days and they haven't been caught...

It's ok though, all of you who already have the new maps, as I do, but still can't do any gametypes (don't give me any bs on "pay the $4, a'ready did!), we're above that and aren't going to care. I only downloaded the maps 'cause I wanted to, not 'cause I had to. I'm as concrete a Christian as I can be, and this is pretty low (not like BxR low... that's in the game, whether on accident or not.)
