...and they found the Flood. But what if the Flood was what they were looking for? I know it sounds kind of stupid, but, the Flood are clearly an army of biped, mutating, zombie b*stards that were very effect against both the Chief, the Marines, and the Covenant themselves. Maybe they came to Halo looking for the Flood so that they could control them and unleash them on the Human colonies so they wouldn't have to do it themselves? Flood the planet, then glass the planet. Just a theory.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Hmmmmm....

Cortana: Oh, those Covenant fools! They must've known, there must've been signs!

Maybe you're not too far off in your theory... Good work pointing out that maybe it wasn't Halo that the Covenant thought was the weapon.... Cortana said that thats what the Covenant were thinking, but at that point in time, she didn't have a way to provide for literal translations of the Covenant dialects.... she might've made her inference based on an illiteral translation, which would actually maker her wrong.

The Covenant might've known about the Flood, but they probably didn't know about their unpredictability and instability... which is why the Covenant became so afraid of the Flood when they found them.

I'll also point out that the Flood themselves are not biped... only in the warrior in carrier forms (which are made from taking over a suitable host).

I don't think so. I remember the covenant being SCARED of the Flood.
However they did come to Halo looking for a weapon. They may just not have known that it was the Flood that was the weapon.

the monitor sayes something like "there survival as a race depended upon it" mabay the flood was a weopon. but with no more war they lost there function an where dumpt on halo, to cause no more harm. and also to be studied for there skill to adapt.

im sorry to disappoint you on this but it says really, the pillar of autumn was attacted at the start of the game. Cortana disabled the covenant cruiser before crash landing onto the halo. The covenant already had a head start and was able to find the control room to discover that the halo was actually a weapon! I am unsure though of the flood themselfs. The were contained underground in cells. A disease that turns animals into mutated creatures, could it have been the distroyed of the race that created the halo? thats upto u to decide. In conclusion, finding halo was just faight. I could be completly wrong but they are just my views, any questions just say, sorry about poor spellings.

Well, the Covenant being scared of the Flood would work. The Covenant knowing would work too. Then the Flood would be found to be too powerful and the Covies couldn't control them. That's why The Covenant were terrified that the Flood would repair the ship. They sent a strike team to neutralize the Flood and repair it for immeadiate departure(The beginning of Keyes)

The Covenant probably thought that the weapon was the Flood because they seem to have made no attempt to find the Index to active the 'weapon' that John thought it was. If they had there might have been Covenant corpses or signs of them in the Library.

But they might not have known there was an index, I mean, you only find out because 343 tells you, the coves didn't have that advantage.

I believe you are wrong Dagoth Ur. The covenant had already been on Halo when the humans arrived, it mentions it in the halo book. They talk about it when the marines raid a covenant base. So the covenant was there for a reason

I think the flood were a weapon created by some forgotten race. then, the flood, essentially mutinized that race, wiping them out. the homeworld of the flood would then be halo, originally created by that race. that would be why "explore derelict ring habitat: done" appears in the halo 2 trailer history of objectives.

xvest, im just a plain old xbox player, i go by the game :P, but look, i read your responce and have looked more into the cut scenes of the game hopefully getting a better grip on the story line. The conenant were actually waiting for them to get there (they have faster ships)! Thats when you see the blue plasma rockets shoot at the POA, that makes the human ship crash land and so on. The convenant i believe have found out that it is a weapon (you hear it when you rescue keyes) but they cannot use it becuse they do not have the index which is in the heart of the library. The study of the halo ring by covenant was extensive, 343 even says that they had tried entering restricted areas and eventually releasing the flood. You hear that the release made the covenant scared and i wouldnt doubt that! The flood reproduce using bio mass as hosts (bio mass in this case are humans and covenants). I believe it killed the race that build the structure! by the sounds of what 343 says. halo is basically a site to experiment on the flood only! iIf they became out of hand, then you use the halo to destroy the food and thus stopping any speading of the desease.

I dont actually think the flood knew anything about it. Because the marines didn't, the chief didn't and cortana didn't. Plus we journeyed through about 6 levels before they were introduced so i think they were kind of hidden away tightly.

mabey they attemted to find the index but they where turned into the flood. Because the flood looks like spores and not the fullgrown forms you see in that level
