Legend....................(wait for it)..........ary.

When they did the first map packs, they didn't force you to buy them to be able to play all game types. If you had the maps and went to matchmaking, it was no problem.

But if you didn't have the maps and went into matchmaking and one of the new downloadble maps came up, it simply kicked you and your party back into the pregame lobby to try again. There was none of this, NEW MAPS REQUIRED bullsh1t. AND THERE CERTAINTLY WERENT ANY F.ING CREDIT CARD PROBLEMS...but that's another post.

i smell conspiracy, there's no reason for them not to do this except for monetary gain, but it is a business. I just don't like shady business practices.

dayumn, this thread is getting no play. i also rememered "team preview", where you could play the new maps. Now it's only 2 maps, but it should be easier to create w/ only 2 new maps.

While I didn't experience any issues with the maps I do agree with your suggestion. It would have been a better way to handle the new maps to make it optional and to simply boot you to the lobby until a map you have appears.

Good post.

It's not money I think they want to keep everyone focused Halo 3 and make sure everyone will move to it
They probably don't want another counter-strike kind of situation (where tons more people play the much older 1.6 instead of CS, older game instead of newer because it's better in many people's opinions)

Although to their credit they are making them free in July.. but it's silly to require them to play on almost any MM imo, theres definitely another reason behind it

to go with your counter strike example:

hopefully people aren't persuaded to ignore the beta if they have the opportunity to play it in favor of rank resets and 2 old school map remakes. Now if the situation is that people try the beta for h3, don't like it, and go back to h2, then those people's feedback is HOPEFULLY what bungie is looking fo, to make h3 better than h2.

I just think this whole situation has been horrible in almost every facet. While a black mark on Bungie, Certain Affinity, etc. I don't see it harming them in terms of sales. Now fan support on the other hand is different entirely. But they don't get paid based off fan support.

If they were afraid of people not moving onto Halo 3, they just lost a customer. This tactic of purchase additional maps or we will reduce the quality/feature is just wrong. I'm sick of this trend in business models. Buy product and it's not really yours or if you don't upgrade will we reduce your current features. If they want to do that, let the consumers hack and create a work around. It should be a two-way street. The only voice a consumer has is their cash. I hope nobody buys Halo 3, but I know that won't happen. So, I hope someone sues Bungie right out of business and makes them a example to other businesses.

we really have no alternative to h3, or h2. gears came close, but their online setup is so busted it's laughable. no other game gives you the ease that is matchmaking, until m.s. decides to make it the standard, bungie can basically do whatever they want with halo - we more or less have to buy it to get the joy of playing a great online game. We don't HAVE to, but you know what I mean. That's why halo sells so well, they do it better than anyone else. Therefore they can dick us on micro charges, because we really don't have much of a choice. Xbox live entrapment my friends
