Now, as we all know Zteam has come pretty damn close to H2 in terms of almost everything, I sometimes forget the difference but then I remember duel wielding, jacking, boosting so on so forth. But from the footage of Halo 3 that I've scene in the past couple of months, I've noticed it's extremely similar to the original Halo 2 engine with lighter colors and graphics (which is a given). Now, when were were doing H1 to H2, there were so many problems. The main issue was that the game was just different, H2 weapons didn't have the same properties because of physics and duel wielded ability. Things were just not done right because of the drastic changes to almost all of the weapons.

However, from what I've scene in H3 (and as I've stated above) the two games don't look (currently) to have any major differences that the other can't mimic. (except maybe equipment button). Now, from what we've been able to do with H1 (though not extremely close to H2, zteam had an almost perfect resemblance and follow through) I think it shouldn't be much of a problem porting H2 to H3 for our high ranking teams like CMT and Zteam. And if we can mod something like that with the versatile engine of Halo 2, what could we do to bring a lot of other games to Halo 2 Vista.

The main reason for this is that I don't want to wait three years or more for a Halo 3 port (if we're even getting one).

Most of the weapons can be done, but equipment would be slopily done, probably by making it a weapon you pick up thats dual wielded. The fact that there is no good way to do equipment, would disrupt the whole flow of what makes h3, h3 imo.

Have you seen the latest Halo 3 Beta vids? They are simply amazing in terms of graphics.

Here is one in Widescreen HD-?

Simply amazing...and that's the beta! Have you ever seen screenshots of Halo 2 when it was at Alpha/Beta? Ugly.

At the time the graphics were amazing. Just like about three or four years down the road Halo 3 will be considered ugly. But yes, I can't wait to see the final, but I have high hopes that with a bit cleaner of a look, H2v can look nearly exactly like h3.

I have to disagree. I feel like Bungie relies too heavily on bump maps. Visually, everything in Halo 3 can probably be remade, aside from the flora and lighting additions to the engine. New features would require the new engine to work properly.

Thinking of something witty to write here since 2004...

As far as I know Halo 2 ran on a modified Halo 1 engine and Halo 3 will be running on a modified Halo 2 engine.

Doesn't Halo 2 run on Havok, whereas Combat Evolved does not?

No, Kimmy. Havok is the physics engine; both Halo 1 and 2 use the Blam! engine, except Halo 2 uses Blam! 2.

i have said this before in another forum but i read an interview with hired gun and they were asked if H2V was the only port they are doing and they said "no, we werent formed for the sole purpose of 1 game." or something like that, so mabye we will see it in 6 months to a years time. hopefully.

As far as I was aware, Halo 2 is not just a modified Halo 1, although originally it was in the early development stages (there are one or two shots around).

As for Halo 3, it didn't visually impress me really. Crysis on the other hand, did. ;)

Halo 2 was NOT Halo CE's engines. There are so many small key little differences that add up to something that clearly shows a fine line between the two.

It can be done, halo 2 could match halo 3 in terms of graphics, it all depends on two things. They would be the map editor and the engine. The map editor gives you a lot of freedom, such as map size, geometry, practically everything, even including the ability to create your own textures! The editor gives you a ton of freedom and it depends on how much the Halo 2 engine could be pushed graphically. So a skilled team like the Halo CE mod team we all know, could do it.

I think we will be seeing a few good h3 map recreations on vista. Please leave those to the experienced ones, because almost everyone hates seeing 5 versions of the same map in the lobby. The maps will most likely be the ones that come out with the public beta. The big problem would be equipment. I think masterz idea of it being a dual-wieldable weapon is good though, and very plausible, because you cannot throw equipment if youre d-wielding. Our creativness will tell us what we can do, and the engine will tell us what we cant do.

Maybe equipment could be picked up as a grenade type? Then you just limit the number you can pick up. The only problem I see being a big deal is the possibility of having different types of equipment at once. But then again, making it a weapon has that same problem...

While Bungie is trying to make it look awesome, what bungie is really trying to go for is an epic feel, so instead of super awesome jaw dropping graphics, they're aiming for MASSIVE GIGANTIC LEVELS that have so many things happening in real time such as battles taking place miles away, etc. etc. ..... while making it look as good or better than next gen titles. :D

They've stated this quite a bit.

What do you mean by "high ranking teams"? Is there suddenly a ranking system in the community? That is not something that I want to see happen.

From what I can see, the gap between Halo 2 and Halo 3 is nowhere near as big as the difference between Halo and Halo 2. Thus, the modding team should have an easier time trying to bring the Halo 3 experience onto your PCs rather than Halo 2 to your Custom Edition...

Actually Crysis will have much larger maps/levels then Halo 3. Maps are to be around 3.x miles large in Crysis.
