As for Halo 3, it didn't visually impress me really. Crysis on the other hand, did. ;)
Take that, consoles!
While Bungie is trying to make it look awesome, what bungie is really trying to go for is an epic feel, so instead of super awesome jaw dropping graphics, they're aiming for MASSIVE GIGANTIC LEVELS that have so many things happening in real time such as battles taking place miles away, etc. etc. ..... while making it look as good or better than next gen titles. :D

They've stated this quite a bit.

Actually Crysis will have much larger maps/levels then Halo 3. Maps are to be around 3.x miles large in Crysis.
Take that, consoles!

Frog Blast the Vent Core!

The advantage of not being limited by small hard drive space really makes PCs better.

Oh, and H3 maps are actually pretty small (at least the beta multiplayer), high ground is a small vertical map, snow bound is actually a boxed-in map, and Vahalla is the biggest of them, about a little wider than blood gulch.

lol, if that's Bungies plan then it's failed. I know Halo 3 is in Beta, but it will not look noticibly better by the final build. Consoles were released too early this time, Dx10 is such a giant leap foreward, that console graphical capabilities will be massively left behind, even more so than usual.

Gaming Systems:
Intel Core i7 720QM (4 cores, 8 threads)
4Gb DDR3-1333mhz
1Gb AMD Radeon HD 4650
Windows 7 64bit

Xbox 360 w/ 20Gb HDD (2008 edition) & XBL Gold.

In all fairness to Bungie, Crysis IS a DX10 game and will only look as good as it does in the vids, with absolutely WACKED out PC hardware, nearer top-of-the-range. Halo 3's visuals are limited to the features of the 360's R550 graphics core, which are all DX9. However, cast our minds back to the Halo 3 trailer itself. The one with the chief standing on that cliff edge. Now, those are supposedly THE potential visual levels that Halo 3 could have in it's Single Player. If it does, then the game is going to absolutely ROCK. I have faith that the reason the visuals in the beta aren't quite as good as expected, is that they've kept back some goodies that would otherwise not kept it as stable as possible.

We'll just have to wait and see. Besides, for Halo 3, for me it's all about how well they finish the trilogy, not really visuals. If they can pull off a genuine, thought provoking, crowd silencing, jaw dropping, gut wrenching, mind numbing, stunning and dramatic ending...they shall forever be my saviours. Endings are something that more games need to work on. Endings like that in Unreal 2 and Half Life 1/2/Episode 1, are good role models.

Does anyone else get that warm fuzzy feeling inside when they see Crysis? http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2509 Watch the GDC 07 video- they have a high def version :) EDIT: You have to love that explosion in the end.

Yea it does all look very good, i've seen all the media related to it. However, just a slight worry that only those with 8800Ultras will be able to enjoy all that to any reasonable degree. I'm hoping to get a Geforce 8600GTS later this year, along with a system i will customise and build myself. That will at least allow me to access the DX10 features. Also, graphics never make a game, only if the GAME itself turns out great, will i want it.

Crysis makes me creme my panties. I don't expect Halo 3 to come even close to that. However, bungie said it would be the last in this segment or something. So I think there will be a Halo 4, just with a totally different plot and set of characters. THAT will live up to crysis.

Not only does Crysis look like God, it's going to be innovative and feature realistic physics. And a kickass storyline to boot. Those aliens look sick.

Umm, wasn't it stated in a video from Bungie that in the singleplayer campaign of Halo 3's map/levels would be 6 miles large? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

In Crysis, you have a whole island to explore.

  • 05.16.2007 5:19 PM PDT

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Halo 3 has in excess of 10 miles of draw distance, Crysis has in excess of over 20+ miles of draw distance.

yea, but if crysis is a little the same as far cry, than after you wander off to far, a helicopter or something will come out of hiding and kill you. That was one of the fun things i liked about far cry, when i got bored, i used to see how far i could go before i got shot down. It not easy hiding in a small bush for 30 minutes waiting for that helicopter to go away before you can run another hundred meters before you have to hide in another bush again. but still fun. I managed to get to this very small island some kilometer away from the main island, and found out thats where the helicopter spawns. I didn't last long

Yes, well playable draw distance :D They said that if your lucky, you could actually hit a enemy miles away with a Rocket launcher in a far off battle.

Well, Crysis may not have a war going off in the distance, but that's because of it's setting. Crysis doesn't take place in an intergalactic war, you know.

True, but I'm just trying to make a point that Bungie is just going for a massive epic feeling of their game, so instead of graphics that are superior to everyone elses, they are going more for scale, AI, effects, storyline, etc. etc. and make it look good while making it an overall perfect game.

Crysis in my opinion has graphics that are absolutely jaw dropping however and beat anything else in this generation however.

Don't forget about the physics, no direct path of where you go either, weapon customization, nano suit customization.... shall I go on? I can't say if Cyrsis has an epic feel, because I haven't played it, but it looks like a game that will NEVER get old.

Not that it will do much considering once you go out of bounds in far cry, its a 1 shot kill, the guy in the helicopter only has to shoot you once and your dead, so shooting it back isn't very smart.

Call of Juarez has a patch coming to make it looks twice as good as the Dx9 version with Dx10.
