I understand what you are talking about, my 360 broke and I now have to download the maps on both systems. Microsoft is making companies have a price for downloadable content, like they are doing with gears. This game is to old to be charging people for new stuff.

"We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We're evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that."

"Ok this is getting old so I'ma break it down:

1. I buy a game for $60.00,

2. I buy XBOX Live so that I can play the game online.

3. I play said game for 2 years.

4. All of a sudden some of my features are gone and I'm told they won't be back unless I wait 2 months or buy their new content."

Whaaa whaaa frakkin' whaaaaa. You don't want to shell out the OH SO EXPENSIVE 4 DOLLARS? Well alrighty then! Surely the two month wait to get them free isn't that bad? Oh wait, you hate that too. And You *also* hate that the logistics of the situation are such that you don't get to play in some playlists for two measly months out of your life. Guess what? Halo 2 is at the END of it's basic lifespan and you're lucky anyone thought to make new maps or prune the playlists at all.

"Now I know some of you fanboys will eat anything Bungie feeds you but you gotta wake up and smell the Folgers in your cup. The issue is that you are getting bullied out of your money and if this tactic is something we can expect from other publishers/developers then we are fukked as a gaming community!!"

Yeah, pal. Bungie ninjas came over to my house and strong armed the four bucks for the maps outta me. The fact is, nobody is forcing you to pay for these new maps for a game that came out four years ago, and you're mad because you don't get to play Rumble Pit for two months, or whatever. It is YOU who ought to wake the hell up and smell the maple nut crunch.

"I understand that they gotta charge because the game is not the same game I bought in '04...but at least let me play the same game I bought in '04."

Really? The same game? Ok, well I guess Bungie should just take away everything they've done to deal with modders and cheaters since then, updates to correct minor balancing issues, etc. You think the cheaters are bad *now*? Well, if you were playing the same game you had in 2004 you'd probably have gremlins crawling out of your damn Xbox by now. Oh, and you don't get to keep those eight or so new maps that came out between then and now.

You're right, Halo 2 isn't the same game it was at launch. It's had updates in order to keep you happy. You don't like them? Well, get another frakking game then, because all things considered (There is much that is out of even Bungie's control) they've done a damn good job keeping things fresh, dispite what the whiny little pissants on this forum would have us believe.

"Don't cripple it in order to force me to purchase your new maps. If this is adopted industry wide then gaming will fall faster then a ton of bricks."

Oh wow, this is rich. Now the entire gaming industry is going to fall? Because you're too much of a cheap bastard to shell out a pittance for new content, and too impatient to just *wait* until it's free? Yeah, ok bud.

"Some people don't have the money to spend on things such as new maps and they shouldn't be punished for it either."

If I was in such financial trouble that I could not afford four dollars to spend on the new maps, I would not be playing Halo. I would not be playing any games, because I would not have an Xbox, or a TV. I would be living in a one room apartment in the crappy part of town where the rent is low, the buildings are crappy and the hookers are numerous.

If you my friend are in such dire straights, then your priorities here are sadly misplaced.

"If you have 10 games you play online and each publisher is trying to squeeze money out your pocket like this you'll end up paying an extra $40 bucks just to get your games to operate regularly plus some extras. It might be ok with you but I refuse to get punked outta my hard earned money."

Where do you find the time to play 10 games online? I don't have a busy schedule, but it's tough even for me to squeeze in time for Halo at reasonable hours. If you are actually playing that many games online at once... again, priorities dude. This should not be an issue.

"Oh and Judge Dredd when I say "Economic climate" I'm referring to the actual state of the economy not the economic or political system itself. With gas, groceries, and property values rising but wages staying the same people are finding themselves with less and less disposable income."

While this has almost *no* bearing at all on what is being discussed, it's the first intelligent thing you've said and as such I feel I must recognize it. As a society, many of us as slowly but surely getting -blam!- from a variety of sources... but I doubt Bungie is one of them.

"So if gaming is going to become something with recurring fees people will find themselves having to cut it out in order to lower expenses it's just that simple."

Gaming is already something with recurring fees, man. Has been for some time now, and like I said if a measly four dollars is that much of an issue for you, you should be way, WAY past the point where you have time or effort to waste on thinking about a video game.

Exactly. It's really not that difficult to understand. Charging $4.00 for maps is definitely fair beyond a reasonable doubt I just don't like the fact that they crippled my game to try to force me to buy those maps. The standard game shouldn't be altered in any way, shape, or form because that's what I paid $60 for. Another thing I want to address also is the folks that say that I should be happy because they let me enjoy Halo 2 for over 2 years without asking for money. Ahem excuse me...what do you thik I pay $50 a year for? It's to play all my games online, that's right! So no, I shouldn't feel happy because I paid Bungie and their parent company for their services already. I paid them $60.00 bucks for my one system license of Halo 2 (which helps recoup fees incurred during development) and I also paid them $50.00/year in order to play it online (which helps pay for the cost of the dedicated ser...ooops they don't have those it's still P2P). So to sum this up I feel that Microsoft is saying that the initial fees spent on the game aren't enough anymore and in order to continue to play the content that I paid for originally, I have to give them more money and that's not right.

The game has not been altered in any way,.... campaign is still the exact same. I am not saying you have no right to complain.
I have yet to find a game that as entertained me for as long asHalo2 has. GTA is a far second. halo2 multiplayer is the icing on the halo cake and yes you should be happy that you got to be apart of it for so long. If not for xbl all we could do is sytem links which are also fun unless you get stuck next to the stinky guy. And besides you make it sound like $50 a year is alot, which it is not. You will probably spend more on soda or coffe or cigs or drugs etc. and I will reiterate....The game you paid 60$ for is still 100% intact, it is the icing that you are having trouble with. We will see what happens when H3 comes and what the $ strategy microsoft has planned for it, until then we are left to guess and make wild assumptions based on fear, rumors and hearsay. You do have the right to complain but try doing it to microsoft. This is one of the more civil post of its kind for the most part. Hopefully it will stay that way.

On the back of the box it says Online Multiplayer so it's not the icing on the cake...it's what I purchased. They crippled that so that's why I'm frustrated.

Yea i don't know if I am the only one, but i am pretty pissed off that i need these new maps in order to play optimatch. that's pretty -blam!- -blam!- if you ask me. seriously, thats bull-blam!-, it's ridiculous that they force you to buy these new maps in order to play the game that you ALREADY OWN. How much money do they need to pump out of you in order for you to play this freaking game. I popped in halo 2 on my 360 to play and i get this damn error message, and what happened to these maps being exclusive for the 360, now i have to download them on my original xbox as well?? that's BS plain and simple, they should have made 2 seperate rotations one with the new maps and one without.. Now all I can play is party matches? Why don't you just sell an empty dvd case with no game inside, cuz that's what your pretty much doing.

Stop crying, it's only 4 bucks. How old are you? 13? Get real kid.

Ok i started this thread complaining about the fact that I couldn't play some halo 2 modes on live w/o the new maps. I never complained about the 4 bucks, that i am too cheap to buy them or wait, when i made this topic i didn't even hear about them going free in july until some1 posted it. I think everyone is taking this WAY to seriously, all i wanted were opinions of others who were pissed or who thought it was justified. I got that and then some. Plain and simple for everyone to read:

I thought it was stupid that i had to purchase something in order to use something i already owned.

That's the easiest explanation i have for you guys. If people can't comprehend that honestly have no idea what to tell you. Once again, I was not -blam!-ing about 4 dollars. I simply didn't want to purchase them because I did not want to play them. I just felt that it was unfair that that was the stipulation.

Period.

Take it or leave it, your choice.

At least you have the maps. I dont mind shelling out 4 bucks for new maps, thats cheap if you ask me. But then I can't even dl them, and because of that I (like many other frustrated fans) can't even play multiplayer matches! AND....I bought Crackdown for nothing! I'm really pissed about this. I don't have a credit card, so, yeah, I can't pay the four bucks, but prior to this stupid update, I was really enjoying myself playing Halo 2 on Live. Now that the update has come out, they go and disable a ton of features that used to be available and force you to pay four bucks for two new maps -- and I don't even want the new maps -- in order to play a fully-functional online Halo 2 again. That's a crock of bull-blam!-, Bungie! I feel really ripped off right now. I don't want to buy the new maps, god damnit! All I want to do is play a game of Slayer on Xbox Live with a bunch of other people from around the world! That's all! I can't buy the $4 thing because I don't have a credit card! You people have to realize that not all your Halo 2 fans have credit cards, man! Now I have to suffer two months playing that crappy Team Hardcore!

DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, BUNGIE!!!

I miss playing 2. Thing is, the 4 bux isn't the issue. I actually think that's fairly reasonable, especially in comparison to some of the stuff they sell over the Marketplace. But unfortunately, everyone doesn't do the credit card thing. Some people simply don't have access to one, for one reason or another. Unfortunately you have some people that, I d'know...because they've obtained the maps they have this false feeling of prestige or whatever, and now they can't understand anyone else's plight. "OMG, how could someone NOT, have a credit-card?" -- News flash brainiacs, it could happen.

You can play 4 playlists without the maps, and all the customs your little heart desires.

You got 2.5 years use for the price of the one game. I don't think you have any cause for complaint now that the service is scaled back a bit for those who don't want to keep it going.

"We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We're evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that."

That, and the maps will be *free* in a matter of 2 months. Halo 2 is not "crippled" without the new maps.

You know, I'm consistently astounded at how stupid most of the people on these forums are. It's not a matter of simply not liking something, oh no... you morons have to take it to a new level. If you don't like something, then it's utterly contemptible and something has gone seriously wrong for the entire game, and nobody can play it anymore because it's *clearly* broken. I understand the facts of the situation perfectly well, and I think you do too, otherwise you and others like you wouldn't be crying like irate children about it so loudly.

Nobody's forcing you to do a damn thing. If you're such a petulant, impatient little prick that you can't even calm down long enough for the maps to be free for you to download, then that's your problem. It's not somehow "wrong" that Bungie has integrated the new maps into some playlists so that people can play them. If they put them in all the playlists at once so that there was no way you could ever get into matchmaking, you'd have a point. However that is clearly not the case.

I'm *so* glad you were able to counter each of the points I made in my previous post, as well. Oh wait, no you didn't. Instead, you thought you'd try and be clever with an unsightly report card gag that ultimately did nothing to respond to the points I made. Way to defend your idiotic point, you clown.
