What do you mean???, readyboost is for Vista only and is only good if you have 512MB of RAM. Ready boost allows you to use some of your flash drives memory as virtual memory to help boost performance, but it is a lot slower than having normal RAM. If you have 1GB of RAM or more you will not notice a big performance increase, maybe 1-2%, but if you have 512MB or RAM you can notice up to a 45% increase in performance with readyboost. Also note that only some flash drives support readyboost, the ones that do, once inserted, you should get a message asking you if you want to enable readyboost.

No, Fake, GameSpot said ReadyBoost increases FPS for all amounts (512, 1024 etc).

Start > Computer > Right click on Removable Disk [Whatever you are using] > Properties > ReadyBoost tab > Use this device > Select amount > OK.

It wont feel like it helped until your PC is rebooted for the first time.

You didn't fully read what I said. Readyboost does not provide "MUCH" of a performance increase if you have 1GB of RAM or more. As todays applications don't need to use up more than 1-2GB. Readyboost is only good if you have 512MB of RAM, and if you don't believe me heres a benchmark from AnandTech

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Flash drives are slower than actual RAM, so ReadyBoost isn't very practical for increasing speed.

And would you believe Gamespot if they were talking about technology? They don't even know the name of Xbox 360's graphics chip.

just stick the e4xternal drive into its corresponding outlet on the computer (commonly USB) and on the pop up that asks what you want to do with the drive scroll down to the bottom of that page and it says readyboost.

Readyboost is garbage, real ram is cheap enough now adays it's a better idea to get that.

Okay, but I think you should realize that Windows Vista itself might take up 512 MB of your RAM, so you're basically left with 512 MB to play Halo 2 and run whatever else is in the background.

I think it's Xenon or the Xenos, but that's just off the top of my head.

GameSpot isn't totally reliable for PCs, so I don't recommend believing everything they say. They're GameSpot, after all, they care more about gaming than they do PCs.

Wow, Vista itself takes up 512 mb RAM? I can't believe companies these days does the most unnessacery things and thinks we're actually satisfied with it.

  • 05.14.2007 2:56 PM PDT

The Xbox 360's GPU is called the Xenos.

  • 05.14.2007 4:29 PM PDT

What it is.

The thing that ReadyBoost is good for is preloading. See Vista takes your memory and caches all of your most used programs so they start very quickly(in other words, it uses more of your RAM). So if you use ReadyBoost, i am sure it will take that cache and move it to the flash drive, thus freeing some system RAM, for say, games.

Yeah, but if you haven't noticed, there's like three other threads like this one which have nothing to do with Halo but are at least relevant to PCs.

Besides, The Flood is the last place I'd go to for help and assistance regarding PC tech...
