DOes anyone know where I can find any of these designs? and for that matter, does anyone know what happened to Nightmare Armor, (the ones who made the actuall halo suits)? i went to check their site for schematics but it came up invalid...someone let me know... thanks! Help me fin the Chief in CAD!!

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

I looked into Nightmare a while back, and if I remember right, they got shut down. Turns out they didn't have permission.

As for the Autocad stuff, I have no idea where you would get it, and honestly no idea if it would even be legal.

Dude AutoCad is the -blam!-. That would be cool if you made some H3 building models and stuff.

You have to use some... shady methods to find the art assets. Running them through Google's Sketch-up would be cool.

I haven't had the chance to use AutoCad... Just those free personal learning editions of 3DS, Maya and XSI.

Now it's time for a TIME PARADOX QUOTE

Me no like AutoCad :\

3D modeling/programming FTW. Even though programming isn't really related :\

It's only ftw as long as you aren't one of those guys who just run random scripts through rendering and call them art. >:|

Hmm I was thinking about starting a halo render of Master chief ownin some covenant this weekend in Maya. I'll post it when I'm done which will be in a long time : P

Aha, I was hoping someone'd bring this up...

My Maya (Modeling software, also made by Autodesk) broked. Will AutoCAD be sufficient enough for making models? No animations. Just the models.

I use AutoCAD in my drafting class and I've "modeled" some stuff. I'm made several Isometric models of random things. One of was a stick of old SIMM RAM I had. So I guess you could use AutoCAD just to make models, but I'm no expert.

Ah, Ye Olde AutoCAD. I've got the 2000 version on my laptop (the one with an 8mb graphics card) and, I must say, it's damn hard to learn. I've been at it for about 4-5 years and I still suck. Also, try Gmax. It's a freeware version of 3DSMax.
I must also add: Don't bother trying to port from AutoCAD to Gmax. Doesn't work too well (at all).

i am fairly well experienced in AutoCad and have done several renderings in 3d... (designed and built my own deck last year...pretty cool, ill have to ppost some pics...) being that I am only a Sophmore in High School, I dont really have money for wsome of those higher end rendering programs, but was thinking about Doing a MC or some other Halo Fan Stuff... but was loking for some pointers, possibly 'schematics' of some proposed designs. I was wondering if it could even be done. Id be more than pleased if i could get the Helmet, let alone the whole thing..that would be neat though, if anybody sees it anywhere, keep your eyes open and let me know... Thanks!

I did my own version of the warthog in autocad in highschool. I don't have the full version of the vehicle on this comp, but heres an old screen shot of when I started.

I took a tech drawing/engineering drawing class for 3 years in high school. The hardest part about making anything from an actual object that you don't have is getting the dimensions. I tried to do a 427 engine block, and I even found that to be difficult.

yeah thats what im talking about... hjow do you do it without knowing the dimensions. it is impossible to draw it just by the way it looks....

Well, you try to find as many dimension as you can and then just estimate or try to figure out the rest based on those. I got approximate measurements for my hog from the toy version. Its not perfect and I changed somethings to make the model look cooler as well. The engine block was way harder considering the amount of curves and what not (mainly not knowing how to make holes and things look proportional). The only info I had on it was the cylinder bore size, piston sleeve size and stroke distance. Of course this wouldn't work if you had to actually machine something but it works for school projects : p

Why are you using AutoCAD? That's only useful for architectural modeling.

Get 3ds max/Maya...err..trials. Yeah.

Yea you can get the Maya 7 Personal Learning Experience (free version) but it kind of stinks compared to the full version. Maya 8 (what I have) is really good but there isn't a PLE for it yet. Still, anything you make in PLE is going to have autodesk written all over it, its really annoying.

Aren't those programs more for animation more so than making a model or blueprint-like design?

If you want a blueprint you wouldn't use Maya, but if you want to make a really cool 3D scene of Master Chief battling Covenant forces in the streets of New Mombasa you would. You can also make models, add joints and animate them in the scenery you create (like the streets of New Mombasa). So you can model and animate in the same program. You can also use Maya for rapid prototyping (3D printing) to make an action figure out of the 3D object/character you made in Maya.

Acad is really not want you want to use for this, it's a fc k CAD program! For CAD/CAM!

Use a 3D Design program instead, Maya or 3DMax... but if you don't have the money to buy the license, you can download a free 3D program, named: BLENDER3D.org
Yeah, you can render, shape, make movies and games with this and for the starters, you can calculate the sizes from 2D, you should know that ;-)
(and if you can't, stop with designing and go study some astrology or some s41t)
