As long as I have been playing Halo 2, I have never understood what is so fun about deleveling. I have asked so many people that I know. I even tried it myself one day, but I didn't find it very fun. So, someone who actually does it, please tell me. I will not judge anyone, be offensive to those who do, or point fingers. I don't enjoy people on my team doing it, but I don't have anything against those people. I just want to know why people do it.

You need to be a complete ass if you ruin a person's rank for your sheer pleasure, in other words, 'Grow up'

Most do it because they cant play at their own level so they drop and then own everyone and feel good about themselves.

Greatest of all time

sigh...... i've made several threads on this issue. and i have come to one conclusion, you can't stop a stubborn d1ckhead from ruining the game. the arguments they come up with are quite comical and i hope you have a fun time wasting your life reading them.

This is a RETICULE, and that is a RETICLE. I'm using the latter to aim. And what are you using?

To some degree I do understand a person's wish to de-level. Just think of a guy who usually plays with his friends (which are a lot better than him) and gets dragged up into higher levels by them, but gets his backside kicked when playing alone. And you all know how rude some people on XBL can be: "You're level X?!? No way, you suck!" and so on.

However, I get really pissed if people de-level that obviously and spoil everyone else's fun; betraying, suicide, kill feeding, etc. I mean, if you're really that bad, you'll eventually de-level without having to enfore it, anyway.

I'm assuming that deleveling means going into a game and getting slaughtered on purpose to push your rank down? Yes? Ok, I'll be the guy that tries to explain to everyone why I do this. I'm not speaking for all of us, btw, I'm sure a lot of them are idiots. Here's my deal. I personally am not an idiot, but it just so happens that I do suck at this game. I love it, but I'm not any good. You all seem to be operating on the assumption that the ranking system actually works, and my personal experience (especially since the reset) has shown me beyond any doubt that H2 multiplayer is designed for the fun and entertainment of the above-average player. Duffers like me rise slowly to some number (in the current reset I'm a 10 in team slayer) and find that at our numerical stabilization point we become completely ineffective. At 10 I'm lucky to get 5 or 6 kills in a game. This is not me complaining about one or two bad games - this is consistent and despiriting. I didn't shell out fifty bucks so that much better players could shoot fish in a barrel. In that metaphor I am the fish. And so I find myself trying ANYTHING to get my rank down so I can hunt with the pack. I am NOT looking to win every game. Frankly, winning is not my goal at all. I'd be happy to lose every single game if the final score was 47-50. But lately it's always a blood bath. Where have the close games gone?????

Eh, I don't do it. And I will ask if you happen to get placed on my team, then don't do it. Other than that, do what you wish. I think it is kind of dumb myself, but I play the game more competitively than most. I can understand the argument that people want to have fun at their own level. But, like I said, don't do it if you end up on my team. That is just being an ass.

Well I do it but when i do it i find a full team of people to do it with me. that way no one gets a "deranker" on their team and we can mess around and have fun. Another reason i do it is when i get to high in my level and i cant really play it anymore because it gets sickning then i derank.

i de-leveled today.. i went from a 22 down to a 1.

bummer eh? what im trying to say is no matter how you look at your rank it is only a number, i ignore it most of the time because in 10 years who the hell is going to care anyway?

since the reset i have played a few games and it is so obvious to me that there are still a lot of 30 or 40 ranks at level 1 in team slayer (i only do team slayer or swat when im alone) i have had trouble getting over a level 5 because i keep getting completly wasted by people a lot better than me, but at the end of the day its a fun game. anyway to cut a long story short..the end.
