So I have a wired xbox 360 controller. I bought it mainly to play halo:ce. I was very disappointed at how the controller works while playing the game. When ever I try to walk forward, I end up walking at a 45 degree angle to the left or right. I think this is because strafeing is way too sensitive. This basically ruins the whole experience of using the controller, because you're usually walking in a direction you did not intend to go. It would be possible to get used to this maybe maybe, but it requires very high precision, and it just feels nothing like how it does on the xbox.

So my question is. Is there any way to change settings using a different program, or any way of fixing this at all? I would love to be able to play with a controller effectively just like on the xbox..

At the bottom of controls page, go to advanced or something like that. Then it should show controller sensitivity.

You can change the sensitivity for strafing? I'll check it out I guess.

I tried changing the look sensitivity and it doesn't seem to help. There was no strafe sensitivity.

Of course it doesn't, there's no auto-aim; no calibration in your controls. Halo PC wasn't built around the controller, it was built for the mouse and keyboard. Whether you slightly move or jolt the the thumbstick as hard as you can, there is only one speed--running.

You should try using a mouse and keyboard instead, it's much better.

Let there be CHAOS!

Odd... this was also the case for me a while ago when I tried using an old Logitech controller for Halo PC (I was bored), but then when I tried a 360 controller later on, I found that the walking was exactly the same as the Xbox. At first I just thought my Logitech controller sucked, but now you're saying the 360 controller is giving you the same problem. Are you using XP? Maybe somehow Vista has better support for the 360 controller or something?

no, it depends if your playing singleplayer or multiplayer. if your using a wired or wireless xbox 360 controller on your PC to play Halo CE or PC, in multiplayer there is only one speed as said above, running. in singleplayer though you will move as if your on the xbox.

Ahh, okay. I was only playing singleplayer so I guess that's it.

Check out this thread I made a while back. I was having the exact same problem as you. Fortunatly, there is a fix for this problem. It involves downloading a custom Xbox 360 controller driver that can compensate for this problem. The one drawback though, is that when you play Halo PC Multiplayer (I haven't tried SP with the controller yet), the game only recognized the keys W A S D. Thus, the game only knows that you're moving, or you're not. There's no "in between" movement. So it's either you move at full speed, or you move nowhere at all.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I had this problem with my Logitech Rumblepad. What you need is to adjust the "dead zone" or how far you have to move the stick left or right before it registers. I don't know how to adjust it on a 360 controller.
