Bungie Moderators and Staff Members have spoken out against elitism for so long on these forums, then just a week or two ago, Bungie decides to start encouraging it with the Friends and Family invites to certain "lucky" members. While the methods used to select these invites are no doubt questionable, that is not the topic of this thread. Archronos has spoken out against elitism by refusing to implement such things as post counts (also to reduce spam), visible join dates near avatars, and a "leveling up" system such as member ranks. Then all of a sudden they decide to give members these invites, clearly pointing out who Bungie thinks are the better members. This is a disgrace to the Community that you are encouraging such a thing. I have lost a lot of faith in Bungie lately.

What the? It was a lottery. Completely random. If you don't win the Powerball thing... are they elitist?

That's just Jolter. You're better off reporting his rantings to moderators than replying to them.
Although, this is one of his more relevant posts of late. I personally agree with him, that the F&F was a bad idea. At least as far as involving a member lottery chosen from 'suitable' members.
And, before anyone says it, no, I did not get chosen. Quite probably because of the fact that I don't have an Xbox/360 or Live account.

Bungie.net does more than any other forum to fight elitism. Do you see any flashy ranks, custom avatars, or dumb looking pets among regular members?

So im fed up with these kind of threads, you´ve already been ranting in red phoenix thread and this is pretty much the same. There were some basic criterias that basically any member would be able to fullfill, out of those that managed to do so they randomely selected aprox 25%. Hows that elitism, theres nothing elit about sticking to the rules.

You had a chance just like everyone els here and if you are going to hold a grudge towards anyone let it be the douche bags that just comes here to brag about it, i dont think Bungie considers those ppl elite in any way but apperently they were eligible and got an invite So in your book it would have been better that Bungie had held on to those invites? Somewhere in my twisted mind i got a feeling that this wouldnt have been an issue if you had recieved one.

It's not the 'Friends and Family' invites that cause the elitism.

It's the threads and posts that proclaim that the poster was lucky enough to receive an invite.

It was random. Alot of long time members did not get invites. Half of them were people with little posts or Bungie.net knowledge.

It was random.

It was more random than people know. I dont know how many people I know recieved invites but dont even have a 360.

That may have been one qualifier that should have been looked at. It doesnt matter, I couldnt have taken advantage of an F&F invite anyway.

I don't see how you can say the Friends and Family invitations is a form of elitism when it was totally random. I know of at least 5-6 people who got the invite who haven't been active B.net members for years.

Do you really think someone took the time to pour over the entire 500,000 member list and choose the "elite" 10,000 members to hand out the invites to?

In all fairness, it wasn't completely random. Achronos said he had to shave it down from 500,000 to 37,000 manually. Then it was a "dice roll." Although I don't really care about elitism in the least it would be fair to say, for the F&F at least, those 37,000 member are more "elite" than the other 463,000.

To those that care - get over it. some people are more worthy than you.

Elitism is (as you said) is when a member is rewarded for something as shallow as a post count or join date. There's nothing wrong with selecting the most quality posters on this site, because that is what matters.

Maybe, but I'd hardly call narrowing down the people who have been members for more than six months elitism. I did get an invite, but I sure as hell wouldn't be complaining if I didn't when Bungie was cool enough to offer the beta to some of it's members before everyone else got in.

Last sentence not aimed at you Sir Cumference.

I like to Rollick

Right bungie is generous enough to choose semi-randomly people to get in the beta and you say it's promoting elitism?

If you think that randomly choosing out of 37,000 people is the same as bungie purposely picking out their favorite members you're an idiot.

Send A Friend Request to Schloxictonkey if you need a good teammate and you are good

elites suck. Halo 2 is my life. tomorrow for 3 weeks halo 3 will be my life. then halo 2 again. does it bother me that some people got in for free? no. im happy for them. they didnt have to buy crapdown. GOOD FOR THEM! if I was them and they was me I'd be all like "yo, i got in for free, thats too bad you had to buy crackdown" then them'd be all like "meh, its ok. i finally got myself a few achievments and climbing the big building was fun" and then i'd be all like "dang, i kinda do wanna give crackdown a try, but oh well" and i'd be all like " yo i guess we all got a price to pay, mine was 80 dollars canadian, but you'll never get to jump 40 feet in the air"

I absolutely refuse to believe for a moment that the invitations are a form of picking “quality” members, and I refuse to believe it because I am not a “quality” member.

Frankly, I’m pissed off that I got an invite and am unable to play (lacking the three things necessary to do so). *Grumble grumble*
