Granted i dont read the forums a lot, so i dont know if its been mentioned.. i think an instant replay feature on multiplayer (or campaign mode for that matter) would kick some arse. i know that i have pulled some crazy maneuvers that deserve a second look, but i am forced to rely on my THC laden memory banks to recapture that ridiculous Killtacular. looking at that 3D render made me think of it, like being able to change the camera at will, or go to first person view? so whaddya think bungie and fellow halo enthusiast? is this idea like my idea for a concrete flavored toothpaste destined for failure?

i wouldn't go instant replay, but i'd have an option if you wanted to save the match to the xbox's hard drive. so u could then take it to a computer and make your own red vs blue series. EG. Green Vs Black, Red/Yellow vs Blue/Black ect...

you have an option at the end of a level to see if you want to watch your play. you could skip to checkpoints fastforward and crap. you could learn from what your mistakes were and improve you game. a great idea!

laughs...it would be awsome to replay the whole game...but I thought I read somewhere that they'd have some kind of replay system that displays while you're respawning..

Yeah, be able to save them, and then watch them with many a camera mode and effect: Slow-motion, Zoom capabilities, infrared.

like I said before; I'm 90% sure that they have some kind of feture like this currently (it would make sense to be able to send replays of a specific bug), let's hope it makes it into the game...

replay would be the rad. ive always wanted a replay option in a fps. they seem to only be in racing and sports games. would be cool to watch yourself moving through a level, dodging behind rocks, dueling with a group of eliets. pausing the action in a heated battle, bullets and plasma frozen in time. circling around mc or any one els. and in mp you could watch from anyones perspective(what they see when they play). that could even be in the sp. emagine looking through an eliets eyes as hes trying to get you.

you could do so much fun stuff with this.

i also read about the replay thing.. but i dont know if the idea was concrete and it might have just been like an idea, or an uncertainty... also, games of halo sometimes go for 10s of minutes, if not hours, so that'd be a long replay, probably too hard for the game to remember without sacrificing processor power... (like in ace combat distant thunder, it had a replay feature, but it got boring looking for the time you did the cool thing..... and sometimes it didnt "remember" the whole movie... so you didnt get the cool bit on film anyway)

hmmm.. the instant replay sound kind of like a technical problem now that i read the posts on actually saving the video, how about it only records 1½ minutes at a time, i think that would be enough time to catch some sick moves that you pulled to murder your friends..

one thing that stands out in my mind: i was playing multiplayer slayer with 2 friends on prisoner. I was on the top level(sniper perch) with rocket launcher, jumped off picked one guy off from the second to top level running across the little planks, spun 90 degrees picked another guy off through that window thing, landed with the little crouch thing to minimize damage from falling, and started running across the bottom floor and the first guy spawned in front of me and i melee'd him from the back and killed himto take me to 25 kills. and win.. it was so rad..

Well, one good thing is with a record function you'd only be only be the recording the vectors of all moving objects. For example a traditional bullet could be represented by a time index and each of its axis taking up less then a kilobyte of space. The engine would then rebuild the scene in real time.

This is a very low activity for the CPU and wouldn't drastically impact game play. The question that remains would be how much memory would that database you're building take up? The Xbox is a bit short on memory. If we're lucky, since there is no loading during the Multiplayer experience we could archive it on the Hard Disk. Thus we'd only need a small buffer buffer for the data before transferring it to the disk in chunks.

It's all highly possible but could be greatly time consuming to setup and would have to be incorporated into the engine, screens would have to be designed for the interface, decisions made for how and where to enact the function.

I like it.

I don't think it would be good for all the time, but that would be nice if you could download the world tournament and run around watching what happened.

Actually,

Steel Battallion 2 has record feature and it saves the ENTIRE match onto your hard drive for review later on (and they allow you to trade replays, etc.). Its an awesome feature and I would love Bungie to add it to Halo 2 (if its not in there already)

Coming off of LaMuerte's post...

Bungie's servers could transmit the World Finals across the Live network in real time to all online players.

Could you imagine being a spectator in real time, a ghost that's unable to affect the events just watching the world's most intensive CTF game? Talk about ringside seats. You're running along with your favorite team watching their moves!

a replay thing would be nice. then you could save an epic match and go back and watch it. also, you could select what player you follow.

Mmm. . .I like it like I like my taffy. And I'm a man who loves his taffy.
-Mayor Adam West from Family Guy-

I seriously like the idea. If they put it in, I just want an overhead view so you can sit there with your friends and watch it like a football announcer. Pause and say something like, "You see this formation right here? This is why he had so much problem. The offense just blew through his defenses. And that lone guy on the Rail Gun. . .what was he THINKING!?" And you could pull out the little dry erase flourescent markers and draw circles, arrows, Xs, etc. Yeah. . .great idea. Oh, and I like the idea of being able to watch as you throw a grenade from a hundred yards back and land it just infront of the guy sniping you. I've wanted to watch that on replay COUNTLESS times. I am. . .the Grenade -blam!-.
