Only Becausae I'm Awesome

Forum Tutorials --- WATCH THEM AND LEARN

I've noticed recently that the stats ticker that rests under the search feature on each page appears to be making browsers very laggy, especially while viewing threads. It appears to whore out processors when it animates it, and thusly makes it slow down movement throughout the site and even in other tabs/windows.

A fix for this would be appreciated.

This has happened to me a fair few times aswell (Firefox 1.5, i believe littlerat is using the latest opera), when it happens, it totally locks up my PC, i usually have to kill the firefox process to stop it. Not to mention it's scrolling text. Scrolling text should burn in internet hell alongside frames. Evil stuff.

edit: also, this is up among the stickies? Is b.net in general just broken?

Yeah, we know. We have two controls that do that dynamic rotation, one is good, the other one is supposed to be lightweight version of the more feature rich one.

Guess which one is buggy and broken and is being replaced soon with something much smoother and faster and more visually appealing?

Can you fix the forum randomness first please? Lag I can deal with. Chaos, while temporarily fun, quickly becomes extremely irritating.
Also, what's with the desecration of the homepage? (The rotating titles are gone)
-EDIT- Yay, homepage is fixed. Random bugs FTW.

Is anyone getting the same problem as me. All the threads appear in the wrong order. Some stickies are halfway down the page, and the threads with the newsest posts aren't "bumped" to the top. Wierd.

Everybody gets it, even mods.

The forum weirdness (a caching glitch that was introduced a few build ago during a performance fix) will be repaired soon as well.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

hmm... It looks like they pushed out the new animation. It's now going vertically, instead of sliding in from the left.

But I'm not sure that it fixed the lag issue. A few minutes ago, I was having an extremely hard time navigating. It took over a minute to load a page (broadband connection - usually takes 2 seconds or less) and it was almost impossible to scroll with either the pad (like a mousewheel) or the arrow keys.

I can't be sure that my computer just didn't freak out for a minute, but I just wanted to mention it. I'm using Opera 9.2, by the way.

If it is a new animation thats meant to use less resources... :o. whenever that thing animates, my CPU usage on firefox flies up to 40%, which is a teeny bit mental for a 3700+.

Thats weird, i havn't ever had any issues with the new site as far as preformance goes. The only thing was last night it took about 3 minutes to get to the front page, timing out twice. But i suppose that could have been people coming to the site and taking all my tube time.

That ticker causes 25% spikes in CPU usage. Can't complain about much else besides the threads showing up in random time orders.

Seems to have fixed itself...
