Because they are exploiting a glitch/bug. In the Xbox Live Terms of Service, that is illegal.

Wow, I had a good chuckle at your reasoning as to why they aren't cheating. I picked apart your two views as to why it isn't cheating;

1. "i play with people all the time"
2. "...and we do superbounces all the time"

HAH. They're not cheating - don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If Bungie doesn't care enough to ban people who use them, don't worry about it.

The superbounces give you an unfair advantage over players who do not exploit the glitch.

Just because Bungie doesn't punish people who do them, does not differ the fact that they are against the Terms of Service. You're reasoning is just as laughable as his.

spartanfornow: Then why is it Bungie doesn't ban these guys and consider them just as bad as standbyers and modders? Hmm? Exactly.

Frost: Hardly. If it's cheating then why has Bungie not implented a type of banhammer to stop people from doing them just as they *try* to do with modding and such? If it's really that big of a deal then something should be done about it.

Some things they have left up the the community to decide for the most part whether people are banned because of a set of behaviors. Theoretically you could get banned for spawn camping, if enough people leave cheating feedback. They aren't going to make a banning device for something that can happen accidentally. I don't know the last time a superjumper spawned anyone with no bullets, and killed them with one highly autoaimed sniper round, so your point is moot.

It's impossible to detect because it's a glitch in the game itself, not a manipulation of the game. As Frost said, using glitches breaks the XBL Terms of Use, and is therefore considered cheating.

Hasn't this topic been discussed enough times?

They haven't done this because they don't want to waste their time fixing something that is so widespread. Think about it, have you ever run into a player that has been playing for a few months that doesn't know a super bounce? I'm not telling you not to do them, heck, I do them just to make people mad sometimes, I'm just explaining that they are cheating.

spartan: And modding can't just happen accidentally or get confused with real skill? Mmhmm, right. People leave cheating feedback all the time on people who are just legitimately good at the game.

How does this differ from modding though in the end, still? No matter what advantage it gives you, the game's balance could still be offset because of it whether you're jumping in the air or spawning people with no or little ammo. Thus, they are one in the same. Should both not be dealt with?

Like I see what you guys mean but I'm just saying if people complain just as much with superbouncing and BxR and such as they do modding, why not get rid of all of it?

Frost:: I know where you're coming from, I just think it should be dealt with the same way other forms of cheating are.

I'm surprised that this is not locked yet. Superbouncing lets you get to vantage points where you're practically invulnerable while abusing the game's physics. People who don't abuse the game's physics or don't know about this do not have access to those vantage points. Ergo, superbouncing is considered cheating. And just for the record, the admins lock threads about such things--they don't belong here.

i will give you three reasons superbounces AREN'T cheating

1. if bungie can get rid of rocket launcher flying and the dummy glitch then they could easily get rid of superbounces
2. why dont they get rid of super jumps? my answer is they want it part of the game
3. you think its a glitch? i think they put them in how else can there be so many super jumps at so many different levels that take you to usefull spots?

I'm certifiable.

Silversaint, the only reason superbounces are still in the game is because fixing them would require breaking the rest of the game. It's not a feature, it's a bug. Using it will leave you vulnerable to Cheating feedback on Live.

-- Steve wishes folks would use the wonderful "search" feature to see the other quadrillion threads explaining this.

Read the Cheating section on Bungie. It specifically says that superbouncing is not cheating because it gives no advantage since everbody knows them. To many people do them for it to be a bannable or punishable offense.
