in the halo 2 faqs, there is a question,
Q

Will Halo 2 support the Xbox Live Communicator in online games?

A

Definitely.

will this also be in the single player campaign and the offline multiplayer like socom and socom 2?... what i mean is in socom 2 i can speak to your fellow marines and tell them to run ahead, fall behind, shoot, etc, will this be possible to do that with the xbox comunicator in anything besides the ONLINE MULTIPLAYER???? very interested...if possible could someone from bungie please put this on the halo 2 faqs page as i think for the people who dont know like me would be very interested to know!?

how would that work cause it isn't really a strategic team FPS it is shoot to hearts content while the supurb AI try and help or kill you. It would be fun, yes I admit, to order the marines to do things, but would it work?

I think that telling your teamates what to do over the microphone is pretty cool, but there really is no use for it in halo.
And to clear things up, in socom they are not marines, they're navy seals.

Do you mean like in Rainbow 6: 3 where you can voice order the bots?

I think communicators for singleplayer is an interesting idea, I don't think it would be very useful in the game due to the fact that the Chief often has to work solo.

You will not be able to use the communicator in single player because:

1. This is not a tactical squad-based game like Rainbow Six, SOCOM, etc...
2. Bungie would need to program in speech recognition software...
3. The Xbox Communicator is an Xbox Live peripheral and not everyone has Xbox Live, thus not everyone has the communicator. Mapping a core game function to an optional peripheral (as opposed to the controller) would narrow the game's appeal significantly.
