Poll: Just curious, how many others have this problem. Discuss your situa...  [closed]
Yes, I have this problem:  60%
(9 Votes)
No, I don't visit this website while at work:  20%

No, because my boss doesn't care:  20%
(3 Votes)
Total Votes: 15

I added a poll to this thread just for fun to see how many others out there have the same problem I have.
This thread is just food for thought and most’ve all, JUST FOR FUN. If somebody from Bungie just happens to read this, is there any hope of my problem being solved? I know this is silly but hey, I’m bored

I have a boring job. Not only is my job boring but it's also very very laid back. I sit at my desk everyday and wait for somebody to send me an e-mail with some sort of project or task that will only take me a few minutes to complete and 2 or 3 hours if i'm lucky.

I have full and unblocked internet access and spend a lot of time on news websites reading every possible article I can read. I also pay frequent visits to Bungie.net and like to participate in the forums. The only problem with the Bungie.net and the forums is the fact that it has "Bungie" and Halo" written all over them in large font. In addition the color scheme has "fun website" written all over it. Although my internet access is unblocked and things are pretty laid back here, I really feel compelled to view and participate in Bungie forums at a very limited and cautious level because I work in a room with 8 other people which includes several people from other departments walking by my desk every few minutes.... I feel guilty, and most've all I feel like if I’m not careful somebody in the building will say something to a hire-up like “there’s a guy in Program Management that spends 99% of his day on a damn video game website!! Wtf?” and it will result in blocking of this and possibly all other websites or worse, I will lose my job. Visiting CNN or MSNBC.com is not so bad, obviously because it's a news website. I’m wishing there was some way for Bungie to give enough of a rat’s a** to want to do anything to help me. Give your website a white colored appearance.. make it look like a news website. Couldn’t you make an outer (front door) page that allows users to choose between two formats; the the normal blue, big font design like we see right now OR the low-profile CNN look-a-like.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Thank God I have an office! My monitor faces away from the door so that nobody can see what I'm looking at. If someone comes into my office, BAM!! I hit alt-tab and all of a sudden I'm reading a brief. Ha ha!

PS - Don't mean to gloat. Actually I identify with your pain, except mine is that I want to come onto b.net a lot more than I can :-(

Bungie just updated the website a little while back, I doubt that because a guy that spends more time screwing off at his desk than working, will want to work on revamping the front page so your fellow employees don't think badly about you.

And your voting responses are too structured. Maybe a simple yes, no, or other.

yes sir! i i captain.
simple yes or no would've been better.

dude, you're a punk. I realize the stupidity of this problem and request. But fact is, it's just for fun. There's no seriousness what-so-ever in this thread.
Don't get all technical and snappy with me just because you're jealous I get paid to sit on my a**

Well maybe addressing the silliness of your post would have made my response less "technical."

If you think that was snappy try posting something in the H3 forum. They would treat you a whole lot better. Sorry if I hurt your feelings =]

I'm just giving you my two cents.

I have this problem at school. Everyone's all up on their white background black text sites and I'm sitting there with Bungie.net up. LOOKS SLIGHTLY CONSPICIOUS.

Do what's called switch tasking. I do it all the time. Have like 2 or three other projects out, and then when someone comes by, alt+tab into something else just as they walk by. Make sure that it is the same color or close the the same color so that it doesn't look like they triggered you changing stuff. That works.

I usually don't like to agree with a mod(because everyone thinks I'm trying to suck up), but I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMO!

It sucks because I'm in my web designing class in the fron row, so everyone can see all the Halo letters and emblems so they all know what I'm doing. + I almost got written up one time. I agree with you, OP, wholeheartedly.

It's all about how you address the conflict, if someone actually bothered to confront you about your internet usage. If someone brings it up, you just look 'em in the eye, smile, and say: "Yeah, I browse a game forum while I have a few minutes spare time; I fail to see how that's a problem." As long as it's not getting in the way of your work, I don't see why your employers would make any sort of a big deal about it, and certainly wouldn't go further than to simply ask you to stop, at first.

However, if it is getting in the way of your work, it's probably time to either stop browsing the darn forum at work, or find a new job that can hold your interest .

I am a Floodian

Use the tabs. Have one on CNN, and another on bungie.net. That way when you hear someone coming they can see you are "just looking at the news"

Claim that you're doing research and it requires info from Bungie.net. If they continue to ask questions, initiate a rant about how you can never get work done when you're being bothered, and that this happens all the time. If things get bad, improvise an inspirational speech concerning the lack of public transportation while reminiscing of events that have yet to happen so as to confuse your co-workers. When all else fails, grab the computer and run.

I don't see how a quick option to change the coloring to something that is more white and grey or something would take more then a day of programming, if even that much. A lot of websites have options to choose themes these days.

Yeah I already do that, problem is, it's a pain in the a** and if the website didn't look so obvious, I wouldn't really need to try and hide it. That's the whole point of this post but for some reason you and a few others missed it. go back and read the part where I say "I feel compelled to limit my viewing and participation on bungie.net to a very CAUTIOUS level".

My school librarians notice that the light changes, it switches from dark to light. They look at me very suspiciously these days.

Pure gold.

Just one more reason for selectable forum themes.

Try it.
It turns makes websites look like Word documents.
Works like a charm.
Hope it works for you!

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

There is this ghey Internet Restriction thing in the area where I live so the only place where I can get on Bungie.net is home. They even block...*whimpers*...Wikipedia!

I have the same problem, my jobs mind numbingly boring and i use b.net to get through the day, i try and look as much as i can get away with and have my hand hovering over the mouse to click to a work page when someone moves.
