OK.....now looking at the date underneath my name, I could see how most people wouldn't believe that there's any credibility in what I say....But, being a former moderator for a video game forum, I feel inclined to give my input.....What is the sense in leaving a "shadow topic?" (that's how we referred to them over at my former site).....Whether a topic be locked or moved, there is no sense in leaving a shadow topic, except for the original poster to look back upon his/her mistake....My reason for bringing this up.....Today was my inaugural first day as a member of your forums, and what do I see....The very first page of topics (at the time of this being written) is full of topics that have either been locked/moved or whatever....Now seeing as the rest of the forum community has absolutely no connection with these posts, and cannot even put witty comments into them after they've been locked, what is the point of a "shadow topic?".....I'm sorry....but I don't see it....it just seems like a lot of wasted space, and also requires users to go through lots of garbage, just to see topics that are still active in that particular forum.....but like I said....seeing the date underneath my name, I expect this to fall upon deaf ears....

Simply deleting a topic won't help or teach anyone anything. Also deleting topics taxes the system more than you might think. I leave a "Shadow" topic when I move a post because it allows the user know what happened to their post and where they can find it now...

This forum software works in a very different way to what you'd be used to.

OK....Ok......but who says you need to teach anyone anything?....Like my first post.....So excited about Halo 2, I didn't even bother to read the subheadings for each forum, and like a schmuck, posted Halo 2 stuff in the wrong forum.....only to return to see my horrible mistake exploited....cool.....I guess what's REALLY happening now, is that I'm struggling to type my thoughts at this moment.....but anyway....like I said....why would you need to teach anyone anything?....if someone joins a forum, they should have a basic grasp of rules/conduct/organization to some degree.....You shouldn't need to make examples of people, and (in my opinion, don't think I'm a jerk-off here, I'm just reaching because I'm at work and cannot put my full effort into this post) you guys should be able to set up some type of system to message the schmuck (in this case, me) via e-mail or even an internal forum messaging system to inform them of their mishap, the deletion of their post, and the correct instructions on how to go about things.....(don't think I'm getting preachy here, but being a former mod, I like to see how other places do things, and their reasonings).....My only reason for starting this whole thing was that the first page looked a little....well....sloppy....locked posts, moved posts, yadda yadda....I dunno....This whole thing was just curiousity on my part, so I implore you not to formulate a negative opinion of me like I'm some know-it-all who just shows up and starts criticising your organization, because I'm not....I'm just giving my observation......Thank you for your speedy response, it is much appreciated.....

Oh yeah.....by the way....could you please, in laymen's terms, explain to me how deleting useless posts taxes your system more than just leaving them there?(just thought of it, what about archives for useless crap, you know, search all these subforums for the useless stuff and just round it all up into one useless group)....I may work on a computer all day, but I still know nothing about them....

Also, my apologies, there's been several posts between when I typed this one and the previous, hence, some of the things I said may already look worse than they already do.....AND THANK YOU for the warm welcome...makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, even though there's no confetti or free toaster

I'll try to answer your main points:

* We would message you to tell you why your post was deleted/locked/moved (we have a rather nice PM system) but, quite frankly, there are so many incorrectly posted posts that it would take a huge amount of time to message everyone. We'd rather that the members took the initiative and realise that their post was locked for a reason, and they should probably read the rules to see why.

* I have no idea why deletion (and moving actually) affect the system so much - I'm not part of the development team. But it's something to do with the forum reading from a regularly updated cache rather than accessing the database constantly. Achronos would be the one to explain it better.

Thank you goweb, thank you...

Like I said, I was just looking for some insight....

It would help if people (like me) would first read the subtitles underneath the different forum sections, but then again, that would just be logical....

Like even between yesterday and this morning.....so many posts in this section about Halo 2 and Halo 2 related topics.....you guys must be getting quite pissy with this misuse of your forums by such "n00bs"......regardless, I suppose there is no alternate way to deal with this abundance of misplaced posts......I suppose you guys just resolved yourselves to "tough it out"

"n00bs" has also been banned.

Don't worry, there are plenty of "cookies" handed out on these forums all the time, and the n-word usually tends to result in flame wars. You may not feel welcomed at first, but there are plenty of people here who love to engage in interesting conversations and/or arguments.

Well, from my experience on previous forums.....I'll steer away from the whole arguements thing and stick to discussions.....and the n-word is so juvenile......but I do appreciate the warm welcome, it is much appreciated
