I definately vote Death Animations. Because the ragdoll effect is getting worn out and doesn'
t have the style that the death animations do. Yes, ragdoll effects are very cool for blowing people up, but the death animations have never gotten old.
Besides, ragdoll effects so far let the body fall unrealistically half the time. If you were to shoot somebody with the AR they wouldn't look like they're performing a back bend or unrealistic flips 20 through the air.

Well, the trick to doing effective Ragdoll is by placing limits upon the skeletal structure and modifying the collision detection so that it works on itself. Unfortunately, most games see this as an afterthought so you get that weird broken marionette style flip flopping.

Brute Force had that and it was so annoying. One grenade toss had one of the squad with her head and most of her arms and legs tucked inside her torso. Now, that was weird.

Well, it gets odd seeing the same kind of corpse position when you or your teammate dies... nothing really is impressive. Now, what could be done to improve that is what Draerden said, making it limited. I want the surfaces of the body to remain fairly solid (until other corpses fall on it) against itself.

Maybe only do ragdoll for explosions and then make death animations for any other way that they person dies. That way, you would only going flying from explosions, and just kind of fall when you get shot with a pistol or something. That would be realistic, but I'm not sure how they can put those limits on these things.

Then if you look at all the bodies laying down, the limit would keep the body laying flat on the ground. The only cool thing with that would be that if it lies on a rock or another guy.
If Death animation is the thing, then there will be more of them in Halo 2. Besides, nobody really looks down at their dead buddy in an MP match.

Sorta what I was thinking, use a healthy mix. When ragdoll would be better, use it, when animation would be better, use it.

Now, what would be totally amazing would be if you could be literally blown off of your feet by an explosion, going to third person for a second to see your body flying through the air. Then zooming back in to first person while you're getting back up, the camera tilting left and right a bit as you rise. You'd still be able to fire the moment you went back to first person but dang, that would be so much cooler then being able to ride an explosion while standing up perfectly straight and unloading a clip into your enemies.

That would be very funky and make explosives much more useful.

That would add a lot more realism and coolness. But that might take away from the MP experience. There also needs to be a heavy shake of the camera when there's a nearby explosion.

Yes noremorse is pretty correct there and yes it would be pretty sweet to see your body flying through the air undead, and maybe when you get shot off your feet your gun that your carying would fly off from your hands.
