Subject: Intel Core 2 Duo

Since I have a Intel Core 2 Duo 6400 at 2.13GHz, and the mininum requirements say 2.0GHz Pentium 4 or higher, will it barely pass? I bet the reccomended are going to say 3.0GHz and with a 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo, will it pass?

Dude, clock speed means nothing if the architecture is crappy/good.

It's a freaking Intel Core 2 Duo, it will run Halo 2 fine.

Yeah, it will run. People are getting so worried about this game. You'll run the game fine if you have a decent card and a decent computer.

After all, the game is a three-year-old game being ported to the PC from an out-dated six-year-old console made up of parts that might as well have come out in the last century. :)

xD yeah, I don't even care about the game because I don't have vista. Might as well play America's Army. I can't wait until people start ranting about how h2v doesn't meet their needs on this forum =P

Yeah, your right there, oh have you heard of AMD's new quad-core?

  • 05.17.2007 7:56 PM PDT

People are putting way too much time and energy into worrying about their computers and H2V compatibility.

If you can run Windows Vista, you will be able to play Halo 2. Simple as that.

Yeah, don't know of any of th specs though... I heard it was supposed to come out on am2, is that just a rumor?

Yeah, heard from AMD it was comparable to Intel's Quad, but of course they will say that because they want you to buy it, but have no idea on the specs either.
But ave no idea, I guess I will shuffle back to google.

If your talking about AMD's new processor to be released later this year. Phenom (they changed Athlon to Phenom), the X2 version of Phenom will be equivalent to a QX6800 C2D, and its a quad core. The high end Phenom FX's will have double the performance of Intels current fastest. But thats just a rumour (that i happen to believe) AMD is spitting out. If you have a socket AM2/AM2+ and1207+ (not sure if i got that last socket right) you will be ok to use Phenom. Oh, its also meant to be highly overclockable, if this is true along with the performance AMD is saying it will have, C2D doesn't have a chance in hell to compete. Except with low pricing.

EDIT: The X2's i said that where equivalent to a QX6800 is the mid range CPU, so it will be reasonably cheap. AMD will also be making dual core version of the X2's, and octo cores for FX's (FX is the high end CPU)

to bad for amd intel will probably release their new line of core 2 duos using the code name penryn cores based on 45 nm and using some new high-k transitors reducing leakage meaning each chip will clock in at stock speeds of around 3 ghz with double the transitors of the current core 2's.

true, but amd does have boards that allow 2 processors on that 1 board (its an asus, allowed 2 dual cores in 1 pc, with separate ram slots for each.. beast of a board, not to mention its ASUS.) it should also be compatible with these new quad core cpu's
in other words, amd now has oct core :) heheh.

Well i have an x2 4400 and its great... i tested core 2 duo and there not taht much difference (It was the e6400 at stock). I think still go for amd atm. Its cheaper and i think its a better buy for the buck. Sli motherboards are next to nothing. And dont worry about getting a 8x, 8x speed sli mobo, because they only proform 2 fps lower than x16, x16

So if anyone gets a new system i recomment

AMD X2 4200 Or higher
2gb ram
nvidia 7900gs/x1950 pro or dx10 equivalent or better
M2N4-SLI (ASUS)

I doubt that Penryn will beat Phenom. Intel is claiming that their Penryn clocked at 3GHz will be 20-50% faster than their current fastest processors. AMD is claiming the same results but with a 2.4GHz processor, so theoretically (Phenom is meant to be highly overclockable) if you overclock it from 2.4GHz to 3GHz, than it will be considerably faster than Penryn, overclock even more to say 3.4 or 3.5GHz, you have an extremely fast quad core processor.

But, theirs no hardcore evidence/benchmarks to prove either Intels Penryn or Phenoms performance so you can't really discuss which will be better until they are released. Oh and BTW, Phenom is to be released by Christmas, you won't be seeing Penryn till next year, so you where wrong about Intel bringing out their Penryn before AMD's Phenom

Yeah, but the question is how well will it handle hyper-threading?

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

Penryn isnt going to use hyper threading.

Sorry mean't phenom. But I wonder if it will do better than the competition?

AMD has never used hyper threading...

amd is dead. intel is killign with in a price war. this july, a Q6600 will go for $266 (quad core running at 2.4 GHz), and everything else will tople down to the sub 200 level. the E6850 (basically a more modern X6800) will go for $266.

amd is just not bringing thier a game, soon intel will get the budget market, and amd will have nothing to show, and intel will put them into bankrupcy.

I doubt AMD is going anywhere.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Why else would you get one of their quads then? That is one of the only reason's you would get one, for the hyper-threaded applications.

None of AMD's processors has ever had hyper threading, including their new quad cores. Can you be more clear about what you are talking about?
