I read an interesting article in a gaming rag today. The article was "Is Microsoft Ripping You Off" in the June 2007 Edition of GameInformer. Now, I usually do not waste my time reading this mag but what else am going to do on my morning commute (My DS Battery was dead). I tend to make my own decisions about games and plus, if I worked for a gaming mag, of course I would say everything positive about a game, I want freebies. Also note that this finger pointing article had no By: line. Sorry that's beside the point.

Getting to the article, the article goes on to state;

"Many [game] developers and publishers complained that they had wanted to offer extra [downloadable] content free on Live, but were told they had to charge for it by Microsoft..."It's Microsoft's store. Like any retailer they have the right to figure out what goes on the shelves of their store and what price they sell it at"" ~ source GameInformer June 2007.

Judging from the article, I guess we need to wonder who is charging for the new maps Bungie or Microsoft?

Next time your in a GameStop, EA Games, or whatever store you buy your games in, grab the mag off the shelf and read the article. Page 30.

P.S. I dont care who made me pay its not the point, they cant -blam!- do that unless they made us sign something thats says it might happen

You mean, something like the Xbox Live TOS that you agreed to when you created the account?

Yeah, I won't be contacting you for legal counsel.

Shishka, so what if I agreed to a TOS, I also agreed that I could terminate my service at anytime...I don't mind paying for the maps but shouldn't we have a choice of retailers from which we can buy our maps. That's my only complaint. I don't have to buy my games from one retailer. If so, I wouldn't be able to afford the games. I wouldn't be able to afford them because if one store had all the game retail, they could charge whatever they wanted for those games. Nothing but an act of congress would keep a check on the prices.

What checks and balances are in place for the Live store?? If Microsoft gets their way and they bridge the gap between PC and Xbox Live gamers, I can see the pricing sky rocketing on these game extras and Live itself. Shoot! A three-month subscription to Xbox Live already costs more than a three-month subscription to my favorite XXX site. However, unlike Xbox Live, at least I can get a taste of the XXX site without buying anything. You know why, because the aren't the only smut peddler on the web. Competition keeps retail pricing honest.

To be quite honest, I bought an Xbox because;
1. I wanted to play Halo
2. I wanted to try Live

But what I got was;
1. Halo, good game! Halo: CE is the best game I ever played. Halo 2 stunk, a god awful follow up to CE.
2. A lot of drama online – Live cheaters, pay for more content after I paid 200.00 just to get set up for Live play.
3. A monopolized market.

This is my last message, my 360 is going on eBay and I am going back to Playststaion. Later Microsoft.

I'll agree to a certain extent, Microsoft customers pretty much get -blam!- in the ass in terms of gaming.

PlayStation 3 offers game servers to their customers, free of charge (think back to the SOCOM days). We 360 owners pay 60 bucks a year to play online games that rely on someone's broadband connection. What is up with that? What is Microsoft doing with all o four money we give them? They are buying licenses to TV shows so they can put them on their marketplace, where we dish out even MORE money for that.

You'd think 60 dollars a year would mean we can DL anything we want off their marketplace for free. It doesn't give us -blam!-, except for a friends list and messaging. Big -blam!- deal. Are we paying 60 a year to Microsoft because they think their Xbox Live is the gaming utopia? We pay 60 dollars a year so we can spend 100+ more for the content.

Anyone who doesn't realise that MS is where the buck stops really should pay a little more attention.

Well, there is not a lot that your or I can do about. Microsoft is market driven... Since they control a good percentage of the market, they are unlikely to switch tactics. Unless MOST Live users cancel their accounts, giving the explanation why and switch to a competitor, Microsoft will just point and laugh.
