Xbox - £35
Halo 2 - £8
Xbox Live - £50

Vista - (at the very least) £70
Halo 2 Vista - £30
Windows Live - £50

1) British money makes no sence =(
2) Silver is free, gold has nothing worth paying for, so live is free.
3) I don't know British cash but that would mean that the PC version is 3 times more expensive. H2v is fifty bucks here, 50/3 is about 16. H2x is around thirty dollars, sooooo, all your doing is trying to mkae us hate hired gun for a game you most likely don't own.

That's a really poor argument saying you don't understand currency.

I have a copy of H2V on it's way right now. Gold does have some things needed like dedicated servers and game invites.

Here is what you should do....upgrade your computer for Halo 2 Vista, but don't bother getting the game. Instead, go out and buy Crysis. It looks like such a better game than Halo 2 and you wont find it on consoles. But if you really want Halo 2.....just get a 360 so you can get Halo 3 when it comes out too.

^^ My gameplan right there.

well i already have a kick butt gaming computer so that isnt part of the arguement

that is why i said that....
i already have my computer upgraded to vista and have some pretty good stuff on it (8800 gts, 2 gigs ram, dual core E6600 (i think thats the 1 i got), 240 gig HD, ect.) so upgrading isnt part of the argument.

what im really trying to find out is, is it worth the 50$ that it costs? i have plenty of money so money isnt the issue... is just that i dont want to spend my hard earned money on something i will only use a little bit and stop using. and i also have never played Halo 2 either so.....

and thanks for all of you that have responded.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Not necessarily. I have a whole rack of games that like Win98 :P And there's always GNU/Linux.

It's actually cheaper to buy an Xbox and Halo 2.

My Thoughts on H2V:
Slightly improved graphics if you computer can handle them. Map editor works on Windows XP (a friend told me, I don't have XP). Dedicated server works on Windows Server 2005 and *maybe* Windows XP (friend said he has gotten it to work somewhat).

Please not: The Map editor is a *** MAP EDITOR ***. NOT an Editing toolkit.

Level of Detail Settings (Besides AA):
- Low: Graphics will look like crap, except worse. Textures are 128x128 on this setting. Model Detail is extremely low on this setting (lower than on the xbox). No anisotropic filtering. Physics performance has been majorly cut.
- Medium: Graphics resemble the XBOX version. Textures are 256x256. Model Detail is XBOX quality. 4-8x anisotropic filtering. Physics slighly better than on the XBOX.
- High: Best setting. This is where you get your money's worth with H2V. Textures are 512x512 (Means you need a 512MB graphics card or be prepared for major cache thrashing - AKA lag). Models are very detailed. 16x anisotropic filtering. Physics are very reactive and nicely optimized.

Game supports up to 4x antialiasing.

Overall worth the money.

Another thought: This game is a resource whore. Comparable to F.E.A.R. in terms of what performace you will get with your hardware. I can only pull off LOD: Med on 800x600 Res and No AA.

So, basically from what I hear; Halo 2 Vista only has 3 graphical settings? WTF?

Halo PC had more settings to tweak around...like for example Specular, shadows, decals, particles, texture quality.....does H2V have an equivalent of this or is it just one setting controls all?

Also, do you get glass camo no matter what card you get? Halo PC had two kinds of camo, faded and glassy.....the former for cards that didnt support that particular Alpha Render Target..

I have to say, I was waiting for halo 2 PC (-blam!- VISTA) for soooooooooooo long! Unfortunately, I ended up with a P-O-S port!!! Graphics looks terrible (the bad way) . But damn this port really DOES sux! I was a big fan of halo until now, I can't understand that after ALL THAT WAITING TIME we end up with something like this. Hell, they didn't even remove the buttons images. Like wth! Seriously, DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON THIS I'm sorry for telling you this but man I wish I didn't buy it! Oh wait.... I didn't!!!!! LUCKY ME!1!!!!11!! If you want to know how it looks, just look at my avatar it's basically the same. Oh ya and that F U C K I N G BUG when I set up my controls, I CANNOT use a key that was binded to something else other even if nothing else other have any reference to it. I HATE YOU MS! The only reason I got vista was for this game and I actually paid for it, what a mistake!

Slaying noobs since 2007.

It is a mediocre game, it offer's nothing new, nor does it redefine the FPS genre. It is a game you would play on a rainy day in my opinion (the rainy day would be waiting for Crysis, BioShock, etc...).

It will run it on Max, High Res and 4x AA if that is what you mean. But make sure it is the 640MB version. Not the 320MB.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

I'm assuming all you complainers got the game and aren't happy with it. Sucks for you, I'm going to buy it anyway because I like Halo 2 and don't have the money for an Xbox 360. (we're not all made of money you know)

Textures were actually 128x128 on the Xbox. The original Xbox wasn't that powerful.

The 8800 will run it regardless of it's RAM size. nVidia cards are designed to use system memory if the card memory gets low enough. Techically you could run H2V at max on a 256MB card because it Windows usually reports the memory as 512 MB. Also, video cards don't put everything in memory permanently.

Just play the game, don't worry about it's shortcomings, because no game is perfect. A lot of you played the first Halo, and that's garbage compared to this.

All cards will use System RAM when the Video RAM runs out. That's what Cache thrasing is. Transfering data from the system RAM to the Video RAM. It causes Lag. Unbearable Lag. It will make a gam unplayable.

Also, I am very satisfied with H2V. I don't know about anyone else.

And lastly, from information available, the Textures on the original xbox were 256x256. The XBOX has 64MB of Dedicated RAM.

LOLATH2V, You don't know what you are talking about. Halo for PC was complete trash compared to H2V.

and also my card is the original 8800 gts the 640 mb one (at least that is what the company i got my comp from told me)

Ya nick (below me) i love vista MUCH better than XP. everyone is entitled to their opinion i guess.

Game looks fine. Some of the Multi Maps look bland, but it doesn't mean the game looks bad. The Single Player maps are beautiful. 4x AA with 512x512 Tex and High Poly for an old XBOX1 game cannot be beaten.

Side note: Windows Vista owns. I smite those who think otherwise.

I bought it today and completely disappointed by how crappy it runs on my system. I can run Oblivion better than this and this next to that is complete crap... visually speaking. And you can't even host a custom game without having to pay for Gold membership! so -blam!-. I sort of regret wasting so much money on this, this was the first and last time I ever spent money on a PC game. Not to say its not fun to play tho... but I was expecting to be playing in higher resolutions without so much freakin' lag.

What is really selling me on Halo 2 Vista is the map editor. I could spend hours on it alone. Also the fact that my 360 just stopped reading any disc I put into it, including Halo 3 and Crackdown (for the Halo 3 beta). Plus I have the adapter to hook my wireless controller to my computer so I can play anywhere I have internet.

Have you even touched the map editor? About 75% of the features are locked.
