Well, it goes like this...For two years now(give or take a couple months) I have been waiting. Waiting for the sequel to my favorite video game of all time. The sequel to Halo as you all might have already guessed. It was scheduled, then delayed, then finaly(even though it seemed years away) a final release date had been set. Well everyon i had talked to was mad because it was gonna take so long for it to come out, but I told them no. Dont be mad, im sure Bungie is working on something none of us will expect, or something that will blow our minds, when it comes out. Dont complain just wait for it. So they did, so I did. And it was left at that. Then the big day rolls around, Nov. 9th of course. Many praised it, and claimed it should be a national holdiay. So did I in fact, so did I. Well I told my firends I would be going to the special midnight thing at GameStop, to pick it up. "Man you are crazy" they said but I said "Screw that I'm dedicated" sarcasticly. Well i got it. And of course I have xbox live, and system link, thats all sweet yea. But what i was most psyched for was the campaign. I mean what made Halo 2 so popular in the first place? True multiplayer was bomb, but it was the story behind the campaign. Well i played the campaign. And so far from what i have read and herd, I'm not the only one that feels let down about this quantity over quality that Bungie produced. Now im not going to go as far as to say that Halo 2 sucks because of the campaign because it doesnt. But in the end, what everybody hoped for, what everybody wished for, wasnt there. Yes, its true and yuor right...I know what your thinking, "what about the multiplayer and system link"? Yea ill give Bungie credit for that one, it rules, and Halo 2 isnt a bad game becaus of what they did in multiplayer. But truely to the Halo 2 fans that just wanted Halo 2, they got a new game, with the same story and characters. Ok so some things were changed, the melee is weak, some scopes have changed, you cant fall and hurt yourself, ok I can deal with that. The gameplay isnt the same, big deal. But what truely hurt Bungie was the story and ending. Yes, your right, it sold like crazy, yes it made money, but have you ever herd of Quality over Quantity? I dont think anyone really put the effort many of us thought was being put in during that two year wait. And most of all, yes there was testing on the multiplayer, ok good job there Bungie. But how much did you test the campaign. When it was finished did you all sit down, honestly and say to yourselves, this is the BEST we can do. This is what will spark a whole new era of gaming, this will have the lasting impact halo one campign made, this thirty second ending clip will leave the millions of fans we have craving for more, because thats how good it truely is and we cant put in any more work then we already have? I'm sorry, but no Bungie. Yes you made profit, congradulations, you robbed the fame off of a classic game, and unkowingly to the fans, made the sequel weak. Its not what we wanted, and the rest of the campaign was choppy. Half the time I wasnt sure who which profit was, or what the story was talking about. We wanted to play on the Earth, and truely see it saved from the Covenant Attack, we wanted to actually get the chance to take the fight to the covenant home and destroy the elite PU$$!ES. What else i beleive Bungie went wrong with, is the fact that nobody, nobody wanted to play as a covenant, or feel bad for them because they have a political problem with guys that float on chairs. Ok so you did it, it could have been made a whole lot better. Im sorry to say that as big of a halo fan as I am(I read all three books and I feel like a phat nerd when i tell anyone but i dont care) the story that seemed like it could have been written in 6 months as opposed to two years, was a let down. Dont get me wrong, the game doesnt completely suck it to has its strong points, but it did NOT live up to what the people wanted. The storyline blew, and thank god for xboxlive and Multiplayer, otherwise this game would be refunded. All in all I have four (short) theories. 1) Bungie knew that people would buy Halo 2 because of Halo 1's origional popularity, so instead of putting in all the work they COULD have put into it, they let it ride leaving it to be a rusty path to Halo 3, and started working on that. They understood that it would sell regardless, but they hurt themsleves in the fact that, the story wasnt anything close to what people expected or wanted. 2) They honestly didnt count on having a second Halo, and this was the best they could come up with. 3) They put in all their efforts into the multiplayer and lost touch with reality, forgetting that what made Halo so popular was the story behind it. or 4) and i hope to god, or darwin, or allah, or nothing, or whatever it is u believe in, that theory 4 isnt it. But they just didnt care. To summarize (I know this is long) Halo 2 will not have the impact that Halo one made (yea I know its harder to make a sequel as good as the origional, and yes it sold a lot, but people didnt know that the campaign was gonna blow). Now maybe im wrong, maybe Halo 2 is built to grow on you (the audience). Maybe thats what it is ment to do. But for what I wanted, it just fell short. Most of all aside, from the bad things, my biggest disapoinment was the ending. Nobody at Bungie could sit down and say to the boos of Halo 2, whatever his title may be..."Yes sir, this is the best we could do after two years, this is the best story we could have come up with, there is NO more work we can do on this, its Halo 2 to the best of our abilities..." And finallu in a last breath, to Bungie I say this...Halo is not a bad game, the multiplayer rocks, but the campaing couldnt score higher then a 7 out of ten, lets hope you guys pull a miracle in Halo 3, and give the people what they want, and what they expect. Surprise us in the story, not in the gameplay. Dont evolve a classic game from its origional structure. And as for Halo 2, try again, and lets hope this next wait for Halo 3, is more then what we got with halo 2. For its the campaign, weather u want to admit it or not, which makes, the lasting impact.
