Thats why I love the people in that Halo CE forum. Some things just don't have to be explained. Halo CE was not only the BEST of the halo series (no matter what H3 is like) because of it's epicness, feel, gameplay, bad-ass multiplayer but also for introducing me to the world of Halo. I was just as obsessed with it when I first played it as I am now. H2 wasn't a bad game, the beta isn't bad, we just yearn to have to old feelings and emotions that Halo CE generated from us. I still play and like H2, I do like playing the beta for hours on end. But nothing so far has achieved the emotions and desire to play like CE and nothing probably ever will. I was let down with the single player on H2 but only because my expectations were so high. I remember how let down I was level after level on H2. I played Halo CE and read all the books just before H2 came out and was all ready to jump back in to the universe I was so immersed in. I'll still play and love H3, but I won't be dissapointed because I know it won't be the original.-sorry to rant

I'm enjoying halo 3 beta more then halo 2, but it still has the damn 70 degrees Field of Vision (FOV) tunnel-vision of halo 2. That deserves a big, WTF Bungie! I'd be content if theyd just put it back to the STANDARD 90 degrees FOV that halo 1 and every other damn FPS uses.

Well realistically at any given moment about 10 degrees of your vision is your true vision and the rest is periphial (sp?) so yeah. I'd say you already havea huge advantage at not have any blurring in the 70%

You also have to realize that MC is genetically enhanced and his vision is much much better than ours. So its safe to say that his vision is a lot more than 10 degrees.

like others have said, all the halo games are outstanding when compared to all other FPS games. It's just that H1 was SO MUCH better then the sequals. For me, it has a certain feel to it that 2 and 3 completely abandoned. Just the way you run around, the way the aiming feels and the pace of the game are smooth and just perfect in CE. With H2 and H3 they seem to just ignore the fact that the movement feels completely different, almost having zero relation in that aspect to CE. I honestly think that if they had kept the same engine for H2 and H3, even with all the changes they incorporated anyway - they would have been infinitely better.

I recently picked up shadowrun for xbox 360, and I have to say that this game re-creates the movement of halo ce almost perfectly. To me this is incredible but frustrating at the same time because I sit there and think about how much better halo 2 and 3 would be if they hadn't changed the core gameplay feel so much.

I'd also like to note that many of these changes for 2 and 3 in general are described as changes to make it easy for the casual gamer to pick up and play. At least where I am from, and with all of my friends who are either very very bad at halo or have never played halo, they exclusively prefer halo 1 to 2 and 3. When my really bad friends pick up halo ce they are instantly having an excellent time playing, whereas when they try halo 2 or 3 it confuses the hell out of them, they really have no idea what to do, can never tell if someone is almost dead, get killed seemingly out of no where and spend more time running around huge maps and not finding anyone then they do involved in anything remotely as fun as they experience in ce.

I still hope that one day bungie finally gives in and just re-creates CE for xbox live because personally i don't need anything new, I just want a huge community playing CE on xbox live and my gaming needs would be satisfied for as long as I will ever spend playing games.

Don't mind me asking but, what do you mean 70 degrees?

FOV... Field of View. how Wide your eyes can see. think of it as a pie slice kinda.

First off, H1>H2- that's a fact. The people who disagree:
*have never played it
*got owned by people with skill
*like the sword?!?
*think playing as the arbiter was "fun fun fun can I play as flood?"
It did have it's problems. For instance, the levels were often retreads of another one. The Library. Repetitive indoor spaces. Vehicles were one-hit-kill splatters and invincible. No online support. Chiron TL 34.
But DESPITE all of that the story, the AI, the gorgeous vistas (campaign or multi player) amazing death animations, flame leaping from the muzzle of a Warthog while a marine laughs like a maniac, sticking a grunt and killing a gold elite. THAT was what Halo one was. Halo 2 was an on-the-rails continuation with levels that yes, looked good but all of the artistry and awe was wasted on it just being a background instead of you WALKING IN IT. (except for Delta Halo. Gorgeous Level.)

Halo 3 is doing a lot of things right. There is less auto-aim (still a wee bit too much in my opinion), the weapon balance is superior (yes, even the laser), and one look at Valhalla and you KNOW that the campaign will bring back what made Halo 1 great - levels that shock and awe you visually. Multiplayer is set in my opinion, it's great even with just what the beta gave us. Near perfection is all you can ask for in multiplayer, really, because you can't please everyone.
Whats left? I want an epic ending. Something that makes me scream at the helmet with my legendary edition, snap my controller in half in sheer ecstasy, then grab my spare and play it all over again.
If you nail the story, Bungie, that's it. You will have the greatest game of all time in your hands. Do it, not just because it should make up for Halo 2, not just to get the critic's award, but because you owe it to us - the ones who love Halo CE for all it was, and all the series should be.

Yes, Halo 3 is what I expected. Unfortunately I was expecting to be let down. It feels just like Halo 2. We had an old school Halo CE lan party a few weeks ago and it was so much fun. We all agreed that it was vastly superior to 2 and 3. Maybe the bungie guys should go back and play some CE to remember what it takes to make a good game and a good mp experience. They had a great game and they keep on screwing it up more and more with all of their talk about "balance" and crap. Put Halo CE on live damnit.

No.

We can see 180 degrees with peripheral vision, and peripheral vision is damn important in everyday life for normal awareness. Plus we can see 90 degrees of in-focus vision, so 10 degrees is way off…that would be like looking through a scope.

Great idea. I wonder if any of the developers play CE at all still. Part of me thinks they don't think CE is a good game. Look at how they talk about the pistol.

They just want to keep improving everything. Most engineers feel they have to keep changing everything. Like in cars, manufactuers have something that works great and after 20 years they completely change it to make it "better" then they have all kinds of screwed up issues and problems and eventually go back to the old tried and true way. Feels like thats what H2 was, hopefully they go back to the old ways more

They mostly come out at night... mostly...

I like all three for the different nuances that they each had. I love CE but H2 is undeniably awsome if not marginally better (aside for "the little things") but I'd say that Beta is just as if not better than H2. It's like falling in love with the needler all over again. I'm so happy!

LOL. What are you smoking? Halo2 had was a graphical improvement. Aside from that, HaloCE was better in just about every way. Unfortunately, xboxlive was a little too late to give HaloCE a chance to prove this.

Well, that's an OK analogy but I don't think it fits w/ a game. Cars are meant to be improved for safety, new convienences, etc. It's very possible for a game to come out and never need much improvement because it's good. Halo 1 is about as good as it gets IMO. It didn't need all the changes that were made for Halo 2 IMO.

Oh, and thanks for bumping this thread. I'm so bored with all these ARG postings. I don't even come in here as much due to the spamming of ARG posts. I was hoping they'd make another forum for it but oh well.

Any other forums where they actually discuss the *game*???

I vastly prefer Halo: CE to Halo 2, and the beta would probably fit in the middle. Bungie is getting better, but CE was a gem. I could explain, but I don't feel like it.

I hear you there. I'm tired of explaining why Halo 1 was/is the most amazing game ever made. Some just "get it", while others do not. And i've come to the realisation that sadly Halo 1 godliness will never be reached again in any Halo franchise.

Yep. It's almost depressing trying to explain this to people. Most just don't get it and never will. HaloCE's greatness will probably never again be achieved. I shouldn't bring it up, but I just can't get over how Bungie has turned a blind eye to all the original fans who want Halo1 on xboxlive. It doesn't even make sense.

The beta was great but it was too much Halo:CE. It's needs to be more new.

You've got to think crazy, of course, because you only get innovation by refining insanity. - Jason Jones

I cant honestly answer this question. I play halo and always have played halo from the beginning because of the immersive and amazing campaign and story. I have yet to see any campaign from halo 3, but the multiplayer if you ask me felt just like halo ce multiplayer, only much prettier. Halo 1 mp was a blast, especially at a lan party.

I went back and played a little Halo 2 this past week after having played H:CE for maybe the past month or two again. The FOV is the most annoying change of all that they made to Halo 2. I hope they put it back for Halo 3...

The original is always the best(or always) so we'll see. Multiplayer wise I think with time it has always been better(from Halo CE to Halo 2 to Halo 3).

  • 06.24.2007 2:46 PM PDT

amazing...

Halo 1 FTMFW! Halo 3 FTW! Halo 2 FTL!!!!!

ODST Romeo

Ive played halo 2 more than halo ce because it has live but halo ce's single player is better than halo 2's IMO. Halo 3 has the best multiplayer though

yup. and make the battle rifle *somewhat* useful, make the campaign epic like Halo one, and we'll be set.
