We all know that Bungie can consecutively make phenomenal games. But even in sequals, small nuances can often get lost or forgotten. You guys know what I'm talking about. The little things that you mess with when you're bored or moving in and out between long pauses in firefights. I'm kinda bored right now (not to mention mentally disturbed) so I figuered I'd make a thread in memory to all the little things in CE that got lost in translation to H2. Here is what I have thus far; feel free to add on.

Trees don't sway
Weapons don't spin once shot
Tank light doesn't work
Can't skip grenades.
Standing on peoples' heads causes them to move, knocking you off.
Nades don't send weapons flying clear across the map.
Ghosts' wheelies are toned down.

And the real kicker: The stars don't twinkle!

Halo: CE > > Halo 3 > Halo: Reach = Halo 2

So very true! I loved that you metioned about the stars twinkling; i was just noticing that the other day and thinking damn, halo 1 was such a fine game.

I'll add some more:

- Flashlight usage in slayer MP games
- Warthog gernade super jumps
- Sniping and gernading people out of tanks
- 90 degrees FOV
- Head lights on the warthog in MP
- Beautiful upclose textures
- Weapons look like metal, and not plastic like halo 2
- Having to lead you shot with the pistol and sniper rifle
- Fluid blood spattering, instead of just spray in halo 2
- Blood splattering when meleeing dead bodies
- Dead bodies stayed on the ground much longer
- Bullet casings (shells) look photo realistic and staying on the ground forever
- I could go on forever...

It's all about these little things that make a game great, instead of just good.

Halo 2...what happened BUNGIE?

You know what I miss, the big open area outside levels in SP, halo2 was very linear, i remember driving round the control room island for ages trying to find where to go. Even the second bit where you get on the halo and have to go rescue the marines, that was great :D

Ah There are so many things I missed from Halo: CE that were taken away in Halo 2..

-Able to use your flashlight anytime, anywhere. Even in areas that are lit up.
- Warthogs and scorpions never die
- Mastering a ghost took extreme skill.
- How a needler's needlers were blue-purple when you held them, But pink when it's on the floor
- The "blue" shotgun.
- The " compass " on an Assault rifle that always pointed north, Even though you would never use it.

Ah, I miss those little things.

I loved how you could dodge sniper bullets in halo:ce by side stepping back and forth. I felt like Neo. It was impossible in halo 2 since you had lead boots on.

You can bite me if you have a problem with my OPINION!

Halo: Combat Evovled was my favorite game ever, and I've been hooked on Halo ever since.

Here's a couple:
-The weapons weren't dual wieldable, meaning that you actually required some skill to kill someone.
-The Assault Rifle.
-The little bitty hippo face on the shotgun shell.
-The (Chinese, Japanese, I don't quite remember) symbol for power on the pistol.
-Foehammer *sniffle*.
-Indestructable vehicles.
-No heat seeking rockets. I can't recall a more satisfying kill than blasting a banshee out of mid-air in multiplayer from halfway across the map in Blood Gulch. It just isn't the same to know that the heat seeking killed them, not your great aim.
-Just all the great stuff that wasn't in Halo 2.

The assault rifle is all that I really miss. The good news is that we're getting it back.

I've been playing Beta and it seems that a lot of this is coming back. Twinkling stars (at least on snowbound), blue shotgun sights. Rockets don't home. Does it seem like the aim assist has also been toned down?

Dude we ought to petition for all this. Think of what would be running through these guys' minds whent they see a demand for twinkling stars, grenade skipping, guns with worthless compasses, swaying trees, and cars with functioning headlights, etc. You know... the "important" stuff.

Hmm, let's think. There's so much to go over.

* The spinning weapons
* The different Grunt, Jackal and Elite variants
* Chain explosions. Halo 2's explosions am suck
* The Banshee's scream
* The metallic weapons
* The blue shotgun sights
* Just about everything on the shotgun
* The louder plasma noises
* The old Needler explosions
* The faster Scorpion
* The more responsive Warthog
* The powerful explosions

That's all I can think of off the top of mein kopf.

Halo 2...what happened BUNGIE?

Those where the things i liked. The flashlight would really help to find people on backwash in halo 2

  • 05.23.2007 5:51 AM PDT

This is a RETICULE, and that is a RETICLE. I'm using the latter to aim. And what are you using?

If you're running around with your flashlight turned on, you won't find people -- they'll find you. ;-)

Things from H:CE I miss in H2:

- Vehicles not staying where you put them even if they don't get blown up. It was a hell of a fun to block the enemy's teleporter exit on Blood Gulch by putting a warthog on top of it.

- Distance to target shown in sniper scope. Although it's completely and utterly useless, it still was fun.

- Active camo really was camo. In H2 you're easier to spot with camo than without it when in bright areas.

- In the H:CE campaign I had the feeling that I was actually achieving something and progressing the plot, which is completely missing in H2. There I've got the feeling of just running around in circles.

- H2's campaign in general appears just like a slightly altered and bad remake of H:CE's.

Finally playing Halo Reach!

Though I am a fan of all the things listed, (ah poor FoeHammer, God Rest Her Soul), I would like one thing included from Halo 2. Keep the Scorpion machine gun. The MG on the Scorpion from Halo CE was useless. On my PC version, I modded it to use the Warthog chain gun, I felt it was far more realistic.

And to add to your list of Halo CE things we miss - The sound of the weapons firing. Far more realistic in Halo CE.

Actually I liked the Covenent ranking system of H2 better. It was more varied and detailed.

One thing that would make me increadibly happy would be if they hid another of those piano mini-songs in halo 3. If you don't know what i'm talking about take a banshee toward the end of assault on the control room, and fly up to the second platform thing at the base, and then get out of the banshee and stand on the very right corner and you can hear a little piano song. That always made me happy when i heard it.

Halo: CE > > Halo 3 > Halo: Reach = Halo 2

If BUNGIE would get together and play some Halo 1 LAN MP again, they'd say, "Holy crap! This game is a blast! WTF were we thinking with Halo 2 and 3?". Then MS would come in and slap them across the face, and say, "Money, in case you have forgotten".
